I will start off by saying that my husband and I did not have any reservations before deciding on this establishment in the relatively quiet mountain village of Wengen. We were simply hungry tourists walking around trying to find dinner at a time that some may deem, "late-night" in Wengen. We walked into the hotel restaurant and were told that we need to go to the bar and wait until a table is ready... understandable, and not a slight in any respect. It is a small town, and we made no reservations. We are directed to the bar where we order a Pinot Grigio and get a merlot instead - that's okay, luckily we are both okay with red wine.
Shortly thereafter we are seated and scolded by the manager (wearing an out-of-season-white blazer and dark denim jeans) for not making advance reservations. We were informed that it's rude to just walk in and expect a table in Wengen at this hour (8:30pm/20:30) We need to make reservations in advance in this village. Yes, we know, thank you for the public scalding... We then order a three-course meal consisting of salad bar, main course, and dessert. Among the two plates offered at the salad bar are a "large" and a "small." My husband and I, along with a pair of fellow tourists from the UK, erroneously selected the "large" and were promptly reprimanded in a public fashion by the management. Needless to say, we passed on the salads and ate only the main course. We asked to forgot the desert and take the check...and were then presented with the full amount of the three-course dinner with the check.
These interactions all felt very awkward, rude, and we will not return to this restaurant...the waiter did his best, but the "manager" (out-of-season-white suit coat and denim) initiated all of the awkward and rude interaction. We told our concerns to his face and he then ran off like a little baby-child and was never to be seen again...he literally disappeared like Casper.
Baby Yoda is more mature than him. Baby Yoda is also cuter. Baby Yoda would also NEVER wear a white blazer with dark denim in the dead of winter.
We are such laid-back travelers...we've been all over Europe, Asia, and North/South America...For us to feel the need to write a review is EPIC and should be read.
Again, he was wearing an out-of-season-white blazer and dark jeans, managing an "upscale" hotel restaurant. Jkm read more
