When Joann's in Kingston, NY shut down, two of the longtime employees put their heads and hearts together and opened Frugal Fabrics on Ulster Avenue. This isn't your typical fabric store- big box or otherwise. What sets Frugal apart is that these ladies accept some fabrics as donations and sell. But don't mistake that for low quality. The fabric selection here is impressive AND affordable. While my home leans neutral with rustic woods, concrete and stone, I love to funktify it with pops of color. I don't sew, but I do love beautiful fabric and walking into Frugal F. felt like heaven. The colors, the heft, the textures- especially the pieces I picked up, were delicious. It's a hidden gem for crafters and quilters- neither of which I am, but I'm so glad I came here- plus these ladies know their stuff. Valentina Custom Frame & G. on Main St in New Paltz has its own parking lot- which makes it super easy if you can't find any parking on the strip. Between modern, rustic, wood, ornate and other frame styles, this small shop, showcases at least 100, 200+ (if not more) samples to choose from. Valentina aims to please because the moment I came here with a desperate look on my face and showed her the frame, she eased my worries and explained what how she'll fix it. At $25 to fix my frame- not only did I get a banging deal and she brought my frame back to life- but she's professional and passionate about all things frames.

I do copious amounts of home decorating projects and spend a fair amount of money in Jo Ann's. According to the return policy on the receipt and on line, if the consumer is not satisfied with the purchase for any reason, merchandise can be returned with a receipt, no questions asked. Well, I tried to return the machine in 6/16 because, upon reading the instructions, I found you had to purchase additional parts (the machine cost $86.00!). I was told by the cashier there is a 90 day limit for returns. (According to the online return policy, that 90 day limit only applies to on line purchases. I purchased the machine in the store and still had the original receipt.) When the cashier told the manager, she was told not to take the return. The manager never even came up to the register to speak with me. The least they could have offered was a store credit. Instead the manager chose to hide behind the cashier and a return policy that isn't even posted in the store. Very frustrating.
