Manny's specializes in not only a wide selection of high quality art supplies for all mediums, but also a variety of gift items and novelties as well! We were tempted to drop major cash on some new oil pastels, but instead settled for some inexpensive but adorable wallet-sized animal figurines (a lamb for me and a dinosaur for the boyfriend - so cute!) I haven't seen a small business that sells art supplies outside of my beloved Blick's in Cambridge, MA, so it was cool to visit Manny's in New Paltz and not only support a local business, but support the arts as well. The staff was knowledgeable and kind, and made shopping here an excellent experience. It was a wonderful way to start our New Paltz adventure!

When I…read morewalked in the first time, I noticed there was something a bit off about the man at the register who I believe to be the owner. Not very friendly or approachable, but I saw some cute cocktail glassware and decided to make a purchase. Sadly, that evening, the paper bag with the glasses wrapped in tissue paper, lightly tipped over on the dinner table and one of the glasses shattered. I thought it would be worth a try to go back and see if they could accommodate with a solution as the glasses had not even been unwrapped yet. I went back, and the same man was there. He was extremely hostile when I asked if he could help me out in any way. When I mentioned that the glasses were only wrapped in tissue paper, he became very defensive and suggested that I was blaming him for the accident. "It's my fault," he yelled. He very childishly huffed and puffed through the store as he grabbed me a new glass and some bubble wrap. As he handed back the bag, he very rudely said, "don't blame me if you're not careful and it breaks again." Although I don't think it was his fault, I don't imagine the glass would have broken if it had been well wrapped the first time around. To have a grown man yell at me, a young women in my 20s, felt extremely scary, disrespectful, and and sad that this is a world where men think they can speak to women so harshly. Don't recommend visiting if you are looking for a pleasant customer experience.

Everyone who works there is friendly and helpful. I've always referred to them as "big lots, on steroids." The place is huge! They primarily sell manufacturers extras and overstock, and maybe the previous models of things. But, everything is good. Groceries, snacks, clothes, toys, home, and garden, housewares, kitchenware, tools, carpeting even furniture. If you see what you like, buy a little bit extra, because there's a good chance it won't be there the next time you come in. The stock always rotates. That's what makes it fun. It's like a giant treasure hunt. Also, if you sign up for a free "Ollie's army" membership, they will send you information on discounts that you can get off of their already great prices. I am a fan. I wish these guys were in California. Thanks!
