And the food, was wow!!! I've never had grits better than my own until Nikki's , my husband had bacon, home fries and grits and was very very pleased. Our waitress offer us their reputable biscuits and gravy complimentary and we definitely were grateful to take it. The biscuits were freshly made and sooooo great!!! I stopped getting pancakes while at restaurants because they were dry and just tasteless, But ....... I knew Nikki's would be different lol I got 1 pancake to go and this 1 pancake single-handed restored my love for the pancake. I am a frequent client of kook'n with Kim and I usually get the meatloaf dinner or the smothered pork chops because they are my favorite . Today I got the meatloaf dinner ( comes with 2 sides ) , the fried chicken lunch for my honey and a rib dinner with two sides and a banana pudding to go. I have seen caucasians come here and grab food because I hear them say its the best meatloaf they had - to the cooking in general reminds them of their southern family member cooking. This day the black eyed peas was a popular side choice. I never tried it but it was a popular one. I spoke to Ms. Kim and her grandson this day just to have a conversation - Ms. Kim introduced herself to me with her First Name - She asked me if I was this ethnicity and she was right LOL she then stated to me she is part Thailand. Her grandson was also nice. I was sharing to him my past experience as a Yelp Diner at this establishment and both Ms. Kim and her grandson were not fond of the experience I had and then Ms. Kim adviced next time that happens at any food establishment to just get a full refund back. They were shocked of the experience I had. It was a pleasure talking to them both them hearing me vent it out about my dining experience from another establishment. On a weekday around close to 12pm this place can get a line for food. By far Ms. Kim's place is the best soul food IMO in Orlando and the portions are hefty! After standing there and realizing they weren't coming over, we went up to the counter. They said it would be a 45 minute wait. There was already a customer waiting on a togo order that was over and hour so, I started to get nervous that this was going to be a long experience. It only took us about 20 minutes to be seated and the food came over right away. That was definitely a pleasant surprise. We both ordered the baked chicken, with green beans and I had the veggie rice. I appreciated the extra piece of chicken they gave me but you could tell the chicken was old. The cornbread was incredibly moist and delicious, with just the right amount of sweetness. The mac & cheese was good, but I'll admit I'm a little biased. My old lady makes an incredible macaroni pie, and since I don't get it nearly as often as I'd like, she's set the bar pretty high for my belly. That's a tough standard for any restaurant to beat. Two complaints... First, the "moist" towelette they gave me after I demolished my food was anything but moist. That thing was drier than an 80-year-old woman's taco in the middle of the coldest night in Alaska. I think it actually absorbed moisture from my hands. She got the boss lady involved now because the young lady before she went to the back and got the boss lady she told me if I were to switch to a middle piece of corn bread I will need to pay another $1 for a new slice while she takes what I have on my tray. WHO DOES THAT?!!!! WHO CHARGES ANOTHER PIECE OF CORNBREAD WHEN YOU ARE TAKING THE ONE FROM ME IN THE FIRST PLACE?!!! Its "enough" LOL - For me they sliced it to 3 slices with it being each piece size of my palm. It was soft tender in the fatty centers but dried out in some areas of the meat it had a hard jerky type texture on some areas of the brisket. I didn't see a smoke ring on the meats. The meat was tad bit salty for my taste. I had to drizzle the house sweet bbq sauce to balance the saltiness. It was not the best brisket imo. It had a slight smokey flavor but the bits of pcs of hardened meat threw me off. The house made bbq sauce had a vinegar note in the end but for me it wasn't a sparkle sauce. I can get the same taste with Sweet Baby Rays. Banana Pudding was more a trifle than pudding. The sweet tea with lemonade tasted homemade - too sweet for me though. I should have gotten unsweetened with lemonade instead. I asked for a to go of their house lemonade. For me it tasted like country time with added fresh lemon juice - too sweet not necessarily tangy. When I asked for it, someone told me I had to pay for syrup, even though I never received any in the first place. I also ordered a lychee mimosa, and it took about 20 minutes just to get the drink, which was frustrating. The bingo portion was fun, but the rounds felt spaced out about every 20-30 minutes. If you're sitting inside, the caller is hard to hear because the music continues to play, so you end up asking for numbers to be repeated. Overall, the whole experience felt unorganized. They definitely need more staff or better management during brunch events. This was my third time giving this location a chance, and unfortunately I will not be returning.
