This was my first time trying this place, and it definitely lived up to the hype. I saw reviews saying the line is usually out the door, and now I totally get why. The food was so good, the portions were huge, and I ended up eating my meal over four different sittings! The mac and cheese was really flavorful, and the BBQ chicken dinner with the cornbread was delicious too. The service was friendly, and you can tell they really care about serving good, homemade soul food. I'll definitely be back!
Prepare to wait in line, but trust me, it's worth the wait! I heard about it on Somebody Feed Phil and saw the profile on Instagram! I ordered a variety of food so I could take it home and enjoy a few meals. The yams are simply divine, buttery and sweet. The turkey dressing was so satisfying! The turkey wing was served with rice and was ladled with gravy. So delicious and tender! The ribs honestly could stand alone with out any sauce. The house smoked ribs have so much love and knowledge in each bite. The mac and cheese sells out, so be prepared to get in line early. The potato salad was tasty. The fried chicken was crispy and delicious. The dinners come with house made corn bread, wrapped lovingly with parchment paper. The cake was moist and delicious! I got the butter pecan cake and I can't wait to try all the other desserts!
Stopped in for lunch, my experience was ok. The guy serving was preoccupied on his phone while serving yea that could have been handled better. cashier had no customer service at all no smile, no welcome, just standing there. Food portion was a bit too large for me because I just wanted a little bite for lunch, that was more a dinner plate than lunch. Then no substitution when I'm willing to pay to substitute makes no sense cuz I didn't want rice. Cornbread was dry, chicken tastes cheap, potato salad was too much and watery. I think this could have been a better experience and with some adjustments I think it can be. I love supporting small business but this experience did not make me want to come back.
The spot is small and a local black business in the historic Eatonville (oldest all Black town in the US) Happy Black history Month. As soon as I parked my car on the side I smelled the food cooking on the grill. Took me back to how the streets in NYC smell. I waited in line for about 6mins but it was so worth it. Vibes- I'm all about the vibes and this place has good energy. You can tell this place is respected in the community by how friendly and warm the customer and service interactions were. For the short time I felt like we were all family waiting in line at Thanksgiving. When I got to the food Ms. Kim piled the food in those trays. For $20 I got all this food. Honestly I was having a crappy day and like most women I thought a good meal or snack would help. So when I got in my car I took a few bites and Oh M G! (You know that scene in Ratatouille, when the food took him to his childhood) Yes all that. Side note- everyone knew my mom as Ms. Kim (Rest in peace) so I did almost cry. It was like my mom made the food herself. Attitude left my body so fast. I took the rest of the food home to my family and my daughter thought I went to my parent's house and brought home a plate she said the Mac and cheese taste just like the one my step mom makes for Thanksgiving. The chicken was fresh, juicy and you can taste the grill in it. The sauce had a little sweetness to it and the greens were old school with the fatback. You know when I got home I added a cap full of ACV and hot sauce and dug in. DONT BE LIKE ME AND SLEEP ON THIS SPOT- Get yourself a plate and put your money where your mouth is.
Hands-down my favorite soul food spot in Orlando. Not only is it affordable, they also give you SO much food. It could span across multiple days. I love the baked chicken, green beans and mac & cheese. However, the rice is just ok...weird taste at times. Customer service can also be improved. I stopped by Kook'n' with Kim' around 3 PM (they close at 5), and even though they were selling out of items fast, what I got was nothing short of phenomenal. I ordered the Mixed Fried Chicken Dinner with two sides, and they let me do half fried / half baked chicken -- already a win. The portions? MASSIVE. We're talking six big pieces of chicken and enough sides to feed three people or stretch three days. No exaggeration. Let's break it down: Fried Chicken - Crispy crust, seasoned perfectly, no bland bites. That flavor hit just right. Baked Chicken - Fall. Off. The. Bone. Tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor. This might've been the star of the show. Macaroni & Cheese - Classic baked mac. Cheesy, rich, and comforting -- the kind that makes you close your eyes after the first bite. Green Beans - They were out of collard greens (understandable, they were almost closed), so I went with the green beans -- and I'm glad I did. These weren't no basic beans. They were seasoned with intention, cooked with potatoes, and full of soul. The vibe? It's a carry-out spot with two small tables inside -- definitely more "hole-in-the-wall" than dine-in, but those are always where the magic happens. Friendly service at the counter, and clearly a local favorite for a reason. Final rating? I started at an 8.0 out of 10, but once I sat with that food -- portion, flavor, love in every bite -- I'm giving a solid 8.5/10. The drive was worth it. I came all the way from St. Cloud to taste this delicious food. The line was long when I got there, but moved quickly. I was shocked by how much food I received. EVERYTHING was delicious. I will be back. I will tell a friend. There are two tables to sit at inside and one outside. Most people pick up and leave.

You can see from my pictures how huge the portions are. The food is very flavorful and truly soulful soul food. The Mac and cheese was my favorite. The banana pudding is pretty delicious also. Parking is limited and if you come on a Sunday during lunch hours like I did then expect to be parking on the sides of the street. The service is top tier, this establishment is ran by pure professionals. Kook'n with Kim appeared to be a major hit with the community during my visit as the line went well out the door to the street. Stop by and get some of Kim's cooking if in the area, you won't be disappointed and you will probably have some leftovers for a day or two!
They've got a good thang going on here! We were looking for soul food, on a Saturday afternoon and Yelp led me here. I hadn't read the reviews, just saw the pics and decided we were going! Glad we did. They're a no frills kinda joint and I'm ok with that! Walk in, order, take ya food and go! With a buffet style line to see the offerings, there were hidden goodies that weren't on the line though in the kitchen. We ordered the fried pork chops. Sides were yams, rice, & corn. The pork chops were straight out the grease in my plate. Everything was delicious and a decent price point. The yams needed more sugar or something. But I would definitely come back here. Service was straight to the point and I'm not mad at that! Check them out.

OMG!! So much food! I stopped at Kook'n with Kim and picked up fried chicken lunches for me and a coworker. When we opened them back at work I was calling everyone over to look at the portions. It was like you were taking a plate home from a family gathering and your aunt piled on enough for everybody at your house. The greens were perfect, good cornbread ( and I'm picky about cornbread) and the chicken was lightly breaded. The yellow rice was a little dry but I'll forgive them that. I've been talking about this for a week and will def come back.

Soul food is good for the soul and Kim has spoken to my soul honey ! Growing up with a southern father , my dad and grandparents use to throw down in the kitchen so this is the closest soul food outside my kitchen. I am a frequent client of kook'n with Kim and I usually get the meatloaf dinner or the smothered pork chops because they are my favorite . Today I got the meatloaf dinner ( comes with 2 sides ) , the fried chicken lunch for my honey and a rib dinner with two sides and a banana pudding to go. Service is southern hospitality all the time, there are a few tables inside and minimal parking so I usually take it to go. I love this place 10/10 read more

Was craving some good soul food on a Sunday, and didn't feel like cooking this place is always packed and has a line out the door Kook'n with Kim in Eatonville, FL, i had a great experience overall. I ordered the oxtail, which was delicious, though not as tender as I had hoped. The portion size was than enough, well enough for two to share. The wait time was about 45 minutes, but it was worth it for the flavorful food. The highlight was the pineapple cake, which was absolutely delicious. For two plates and two cakes, the total came to $65. Despite the slight wait and the oxtail not being as tender, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and would recommend Kook'n with Kim for a hearty soul food experience. read more

10/10 would recommend! Lived up to the hype from 'Somebody Feed Phil'. LOVE seeing an actual local spot featured on the show, so I knew we had to go! It's honestly been on my list for awhile now and I just didn't make the time. Now it is added into the rotation as a local staple! We were blessed to meet Kim in person and she was so sweet and genuine. She truly loves her cooking and puts that love into it. The serving sizes were ginormous and we easily ate off each dinner portion 2-3 times! Great place to get food for the whole family. Every single item was delicious and unique. I love her Asian influence on southern cooking. Smothered chicken, roasted chicken, pork chop, rice and gravy, candied yams, green beans, and Mac n cheese were all FIRE! Do not sleep on Mrs. Kim's place!!! read more

When you are in the mood for a great, home-cooked, soulful meal, look no further than Kookin with Kim in Eatonville, Florida. Last Sunday, I was feeling in the mood for a good, hearty, home-cooked meal, I had to go over to Kookin with Kim, thanks to Orlando foodie Influencer Justin Jenkins for the reel that inspired my visit. I found a long line outside which to me indicted that this place was a must! The line went out the door, and if people are waiting in the summer heat, that's saying something. The seating is extremely limited, boaredline nonexistent so most people were taking their food to go, but it's definitely worth the wait. The food is flat out delicious, the portion sizes are great, and you can tell each bite was cooked with love. Kookin with Kim, is now one of my top choices for soul food. This place really offers a very satisfying dining experience I couldn't recommend it enough. read more

This is such a hidden gem. The service you get makes you feel like you walked in to your family's house for a plate. The food is always generous and great soul food. There is some outside seating if you want to in a FL day. And when you go don't forget to try the banana pudding! read more

Right in the heart of Eatonville, this is where you can find some good, authentic soul food. Pictures will never do it justice. Each side dish packs a punch. The cabbage may look simple, but boy does it burst with flavor. Each order comes with a lot of food! It can easily be divided into two meals. read more

Ok ok ok I know I'm late to to this show but..... It was a bit rainy today and my boss said to stay home. Well.....I'm feeling lazy and got hungry so I looked to see what DoorDash had going on! I heard about this place from either reviews so said....self? Shall we try this and self said yes! Best decision ever! The corn was so sweet and the black eyed peas were so good and they were spilling out of the container. Check out the chicken! 5 pieces cooked ones just like chicken should be! What you can't see is the delicious yellow rice under the chicken. I will eventually work myself thru this menu! read more
This place is always full. I can see why. The line sometimes long but worth the wait. The staff is friendly and fast. Our entrees included turkey' wings, greens, Mac n Cheese, rice, cabbage. Everything was flavored well and the portions were well size. Going back again. read more
Good food here. The portions are large, you can feed two people with one plate. My favorite is the meatloaf, thick slices with a flavorful gravy. Mac and cheese is on point as well as the greens. Service could be faster and a little friendlier. There are some tables inside and outside to eat at but this is definitely more of a to go place. It's very small on the inside. read more

I am soooo happy I came across this place on FB. I saw that their Thursday dinner special was hog maw and I'm from the north so finding hog maw is very challenging. Needless to say, it's been 20 years since I last had them and this place did not disappoint. I got the hog maw with two sides (dressing and collards) and everything was amazing. The flavors were there. The portion sizes?! Enough for three meals honestly. Well worth the price. I wish I found this place a year ago but will definitely be stopping by once before I move back north next month. You're able to order online as well so I didn't have to wait once I arrived. Fried chicken just like grammaw used to make! seasoned and fried to protection, i only wish they had regular chicken wings also. The mac n cheese was tasty as well but i think maybe a certain type of cheese may be used that i don't fully care for, the consistency and seasoning of it was good though. The greens and rice weren't really my cup of tea flavor wise but the cornbread was good. They are also very generous with the proportions and give you a lot of food for the price. I would return again but I am still on the search for the right soul food place for me in Orlando! read more
