Just received a customer experience that I have never received prior. Called Sunshine Ace and inquired about batteries for car remote. Was told they had product and would be at register 1. Went to pickup and product was bagged and already paid. Julie F the associate had got batteries and paid for them. Would not take any money. Will be a customer at this store for a long time. I went into Sunshine Ace on Kings Highway to look at paint colors and perhaps purchase some paint. The paint guy decided to come over and tell me everything I did not ask about paint to the point that I lost all interest in paint and just left the store. Perhaps if a customer does not ask for help leave them alone !! I didnt need or want help at that point and was so annoyed that he would not leave me alone I ended up not getting paint. This is the first time I had a bad experience in this store, but it really was aggravating. Maybe he thought he was helping but he was not. Learn to read the room !!! read more

As I am sure everyone is aware, those of us that live in Port Charlotte and it's surrounding areas have just weathered a terrible hurricane that has left almost everyone in need. My mother and father have both been without power or water and supplies at the start were scarce. So when I saw an opportunity to buy a generator for my father's home I immediately waited in line for two hours on the first day that Ace hardware was distributing. The building was dark and the scramble for everyone to get supplies for their decimated homes was unreal. I bought the generator as well as two small one gallon gas cans, as this was all they had left, and propane. It was expensive, the gas cans alone had been priced gauged to $25 a piece and the generator was almost $1000. Money I didn't have nor did my parents as my father is a disabled vet with a fixed income and my mother is single woman who can barely make ends meet. I used the money I had set aside for my bills and tuition to pay for this. The next day my mother had electricity restored so we agreed to take her generator to my father's home and return the one he hadn't even opened. I tried to call the store ahead of time to ask about returning it but no one picked-up. Which is fine, it's understandable what with the chaos in the area so I got in my car, drove to the store, and waited in line to talk to a store clerk. I got to the register and explained that I had tried to call to which the woman replied, "Yeah, no, we are understaffed and don't have time to deal with that." She said this while she was standing right next to a phone. I explained that I had a generator that I had bought from them, unused and in its original packaging and that I would like to return. She pointed at a small sign that had been recently posted that Ace would not accept any supplies they deemed as weather essentials but she did call the manager to ask. However, before she even received a response, all three of the other cashiers at other registers said "no." The one on the far right register stated, "Don't bother calling the manager, we are not taking it back." That would have been the end of it, and as I turned leave one of the others called out " You should have known you couldn't return it." To which point I replied that I hadn't known. The cashier on the far right charged from behind her register, came up to me, and snatched the receipt from my hand and began a lengthy perusal of a rather lengthy receipt before pointing to a rather nondescript bit of typing in the middle that stated that Ace hardware does not except returns for weather related goods. I left with no lip or fight, dejected. For the past five days, I have been tarping roofs and clearing away the wreckage of the places I have grown-up. I have spent hours and hours agonizing over whether or not the people I love are okay, without phone reception and unable to drive to them because of flood waters. I am tired and disheartened at the damage on our homes and vehicles. And now, I'm angry, because the last thing I needed was these awful women's poor attitude in the face of tragedy. I am not a shady person either. I work a full-time job and go to school full-time for paramedicine, which I pay out of pocket. I volunteer at a local fire-station and have a long history of volunteering at multiple charities. I'll admit I don't look my finest right now. Hard-labor will do that to a girl but I don't think it's grounds to be so dismissive of me or my plights. If you pull nothing else from this, head this: shame on Ace hardware for taking advantage of desperate people in desperate times. And shame on those women, for being so cruel and heartless. They will not receive my business any longer, and I would not recommend you shop here either. read more

Dominic the manager doesn't know the first thing about CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!! I have shopped there almost daily for 4 years, sometimes 3 or 4 times a day (fixing up a house and 3 boats). This idiot would rather lose a good customer than give me store credit on a socket because I didn't have a receipt. I didn't want money back, just store credit and he said NO. I am on a first name basis with all his employees and they are great! This is actually the second problem with this manager. The former manager Rich was an actual manager that understood that customer service is what brings customers. read more

Convenience is worth something and that is what you get with this Ace Hardware. You have convenience in terms of location since you don't have to drive so far to get to a Home Depot or Lowe's. And you have convenience in the associates since they are older retired people trying to fill their time -- they can actually HELP you and answer your questions!!! I will use this location for all of my immediate hardware needs unless I know for certain that the price is too high or I need a greater selection of items that I know this store doesn't have. read more

The lady behind the counter was nasty and not wearing a mask properly. I had been there the day before to buy paint. The first thing the lady tried to tell me that can was rusty it was not. She then tells me paint returns have to be made in the paint department I got a bald guy named Jeff. I explained the paint was for the lanai it was supposed to be water tolerant but when I went to use the hose on it it started to chip and peel. He said fine, I told him can you point me in the direction of the paint that is water tolerance since it's been going to be used by the pool. He told me to get out of his store. I then had to go back to the line with the unmasked nasty lady where I did receive a refund in protest. I have a lived here for 12 years and have never been treated so disrespectful. read more

I had a project I was trying to complete, having to re-engineer something. The gentleman who helped me was spot on with a solution which only required a small 1-inch piece of tubing. I asked him how much they charge by the inch. Instead of charging me, which by rights he could have, he just said "If the owner were here, he would just say Merry Christmas". Fast, knowledgeable, and saved me a few pennies. Glad to have this store in my area. read more

WOULD NOT SEND MY WORST ENEMY TO THIS STORE. The manager is anti customer and acts as if he is doing you a favor for letting you shop there. One of his employees ruined my expensive car key (computer chipped) cutting it, then insinuated it was my fault. Suggested I order and pay for another expensive key to try again... No thanks! Now I am out the money for the key and the cost of cutting it and still do not have a spare key. This, in my opinion, is no way to run a business and I will never go back. read more

They advertise propane at $4.49 per gallon so why does it cost $40.00 to fill a propane thank that has less than a gallon of propane. They claim they charge a flat rate, well then don't false advertise the per gallon price. read more
