I used to like ACE, but recently I bought a folding chair that didn't last very long before it broke (less than a week). i bought the item up near Gainesville, Florida, but I live in Port Charlotte, and none of the stores near me will take the item back! Corporate says that every store is an individually owned franchise. So I will never buy anything from ACE if I do not live close buy. I could have bought a similar chair from Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, etc., and I would have had no problem returning it 3 1/2 hours away from where it was bought! That's too bad for me and them! I will definitely consider buying from another store before buying from ACE again. Oh well read more

I came in looking for the outdoor gardening/ bird seed section and i noticed since they remodeled the store and corporate took it over there isn't a very big variety of stuff in this section anymore, there was only one brand of bird seed to choose from. I grabbed a bag took it home and opened it and it was full of Black Weevils. I immediately wrapped it up and took it outside (they are highly invasive) and called Ace back. The guy on the phone Mike insisted I needed to come back and take video or pictures. I did both but I just took the entire bag back. they gave me a refund and pulled the bags but corporate really should do better, the wild bird seed was an ace hardware brand also. read more

Purchased a 12 gauge extension cord based upon the recommendation of a store employee. The next morning I determined the cord would not plug into the kitchen wall plug, even though I had told the employee it was needed for a kitchen appliance. Asked for a refund but they refused since I did not have a receipt. The record was on their system tied to my telephone. I have shopped there for almost seven years, but never again! read more

I went in there today as I do 4 to 4 times a week. None of the employees or owners were wearing masks. I had one on to protect them but they insulted me by not caring enough to wear a mask. Excellent service. Best source for flawless keys and as a realtor they're a treasured resource. Love the ability to find hardware and household items in a neighborhood store vs wandering through the cavern of a big box store. Purchased a hot water tank here the first week of February 2018 and within 2 weeks it wasn't heating at all. Checked installation and called to see if I could exchange it or get new parts and was told no because I installed it myself. I've installed many a hot water tanks in my life and they are a very basic unit. Will not do business at this Ace hardware again. If you can't count on the business to take care of something that was purchased within a two week time frame you shouldn't count on them at all. Went to the Ace hardware on kings highway in Port Charlotte and talked to the owner there and told him I would be needing a heating element or possibly a thermostat for the unit. He gave me the heating element with No charge and told me if it didn't work to bring it back and he would give me a thermostat! Now that's great customer service! My wife and I owned a retail store for years and this is the way things should be handled. That gesture will more than pay for itself over time with me! Don't do business at this store - STAY AWAY. I recently purchased an item and upon returning it the store , the owner, Steve, said no returns on the item. I was surprised to hear this as there was no posting anywhere in the store and he said " too bad". When I tried to expain my position he said "he didn't won't to hear it and didn't care". I replied that is a terrible way to conduct business and that I try to patronize small local business in downtown to which he replied "great I am not taking it back". I left the store. When I returned home I was seathing not from the inability to return the item but the way I was treated as a customer. I called on the phone and guess what? he hung up on me. I will never do business with this store, I will make sure my friends are aware of this and I am sending an email to the PGCC to make them aware. This person should not be in business and is a poor representative of the Punta Gorda business community. read more

I love Ace Hardware. For many years, I have been going there instead of Home Depot or Lowes whenever I can. I recently had an experience that leaves me feeling betrayed. I visited the Punta Gorda store on Feb. 27th and bought $20 worth of hardware, screws and epoxy and gave the clerk, Lindsay, my $5 discount card that I had rec'd in the mail. She failed to apply the $5 discount, but I didn't notice until I got home. I called and she said that she would mail the card back to me. Today, I called and talked to an extremely rude person named Steve, who may be the owner. He told me they won't be mailing that card back to me, but I could get the discount when I next went in. That was fine, but his demeanor and attitude was so not friendly and extremely rude, that I told him I didn't appreciate his attitude and he told me to stop coming in and hung up on me. Way to go, Steve. Now is need to find a new Ace Hardware. read more

There are two good hardware stores in Punta Gorda and I appreciate both of them. At Ace I always get good help when I'm looking for something and good advice on projects and needs. I really appreciate the convenient parking for a quick in and out.
