I filled out their online contact form twice (once in January, and then again in early October) only to not hear anything back from them. I also tried to call several times within their stated hours, but there wasn't a voicemail attached to the number so I couldn't even leave a message. The lack of ANY communication is truly disappointing, considering I thought this place would've been an amazing place to have our wedding. All the positive reviews had my hopes high about this place, and I had my heart set...only to have to change plans because I couldn't even get a single callback. My fiance knew he wanted to marry me here the second we walked upstairs. We didn't even look at other venues! Claire and Randy made our wedding day so perfect and seamless! I met with Claire and Randy multiple times during the seven months of planning and we ensured every single detail was covered; seating, lighting, music, set-up, getting ready, food, etc. After seven months of logistical hell, I could not have ever hoped for everything to come together as perfectly as it did, and it was all thanks to Claire and Randy (and Todd, Patrick, and Yvonne)! MULTIPLE times when I was trying to help set up or worry about where things were or stress over some other detail, Randy had to stop me in my tracks and assure me that they would have it covered, and they did! He actually FORCED me to RELAX and ENJOY my day! Everyone noticed how great of a job they did, and I strongly recommend that you have your event here! The reason for my San Diego trip was to witness and be in two of my good friends wedding at Sunset Temple. I was fortunate enough to have one of my bucket list item be crossed out to be a bridesmaid (lol). Hearing stories of this venue when they booked it, they made it sound like a huge hall but, when you view the California/Miami Vice colored building you wouldn't know how gorgeous and intimately roomy the interior is. Our wedding coordinator Lesly Hernandez and the surrounding staff were the best and there is absolutely nothing negative about these kind and hard-working individuals. The best team you can ask for to help you coordinate your wedding. Lesly helped us coordinate everything from walking down the aisle, informing us that we're ahead of schedule to meet early for the grand entrance, when she was short staffed she handled the bar area herself, and made sure everything ran as smoothly and on time as can be. Her amazing team even packed and boxed all of our centerpieces, signs, and decorations for an easy move. Amazing! The staff came out and helped us move all of our wedding things including bringing out wheeled carts for easy transitions from the venue to the car and helping us move our keg with their dolly. They made the transition of setting up, being punctual (even early), to taking down and moving out with as little problem and hassle one can only dream of. The venue is great for an intimate wedding. They provide all the electronics you may need and have no problems answering questions you may have. On the stage area they have a projector where you can display your monogram, slide show, video, or whatever you may want to display. The engineer was a great help with providing information for best color scheme and dimension when i had to create the monogram. He also didn't hesitate to ask when he needed help with the slideshow... as we try to figure out what was wrong with the file trusted us enough to step aside and let us figure it out (thank goodness we did). The venue have 3 floors, the newly renovated and carpeted basement where one side of the wedding can get ready. It isn't well ventilated and gets really hot but, they were kind enough to bring in a A/C to keep us cool. The stage and entrance area where of course all the action happens with seating (for us seating then dining) there is also a nice sized bar area in the back. And the balcony where the other wedding party got dressed and later converted to a a lounge/social area while the staff set the dining tables. The establishment decor and just the surrounding is just beautiful but dim (your photographer may need to set up a flash sync). Another fun idea is that the location is located right next to the large North Park sign. You can request to go to the roof during sunset or when the sign is lit and take a awesome wedding couple photo incorporating the sign. After having our wedding here, I called Sunset Temple a "pillar of the community." Though it sounds a little hyperbolic, I'm not wrong! Sunset Temple is a super special community event center hosting church services, events, weddings and so much more. North Park is better with it here and you should most definitely book something with them. It's beautiful on the inside (held about 130 people for our 1920s themed wedding) and it has a vintage-y type feel to it. The staff is amazing too, and Randy is truly a legend. He's an amazing event coordinator whose energy is contagious. Without him, our wedding wouldn't have been such a fun time! Now, our wedding is a night that we'll always remember. Everyone told us after the fact how magical the venue felt. Even in the year since we booked them, they've made a lot of improvements to the venue and I can't wait to see what the future holds for this already AWESOME event space. Hi folks! We had our congregation variety show here on August 25 and are very pleased with how smoothly everything went at this vintage-style venue. Claire, Todd, and Yvonne were excellent to work with and so helpful. There is such a great ambience and vibe to this place. Soft lighting instead of harsh fluorescent lights, wood floor, padded seats, twinkle lights on side walls, great sound system and specialty lighting. We had approx 130 people sitting in rows facing the stage and food tables on one side, and it was just enough room. (NOTE: there is a balcony that can hold additional people, but we didn't rent that area). I highly recommend using this venue. Thanks sunset temple folks! read more

I had my wedding reception at Sunset Temple last October, and from our initial phone call to the venue to set up a meeting, my husband and I could feel the staff's warmth and sincerity. During our first meeting we were totally sold; Sold on the vintage feel of the theater itself, sold on the owner, Claire, who could not have been easier to work with or kinder to us, just sold on how we wanted our wedding to be. All of our guests could not believe that this location even existed right by the coffee shop, it was like a secret, hidden treasure I am so grateful my husband stumbled upon. Both my husband and I make decisions on whom we want to work with based upon a feel we get for them, and Claire presented such a sincere and good natured demeanor that we were ecstatic to have The Sunset Temple family be a part of our wedding day. The entire staff, Claire, Randy, Todd and Jackie were outstanding. They were friendly, professional and integral at orchestrating one of the biggest days of my life! On April 6, 2014, we presented the first of what will hopefully be many concerts at Sunset Temple. Listen Shows' goal is to present the best-sounding blues, jazz and roots concerts in San Diego. Sunset Temple's ballroom is visually stunning, and acoustically very workable for our mixed vintage/modern sound reinforcement system. In the four months we spent planning the event with the owner, Claire, and her staff, we found them to be very helpful and accommodating. We just held an wonderful even at Sunset Temple last night (7/31/14). I was the coordinator for the show. Spencer, the manager, was amazing and made ever step of the process easy and everyone at Sunset Temple was friendly and accommodating. Service with a smile, all the way around. The venue is beautiful; a 1920's style with a flair of modern influences. Food...delicious! If you are looking for a unique style venue for a wedding or other social event, this incredible location and its ambiance adds to what ever party / function you might be holding. Small enough to feel intimate, big enough to not feel cramped. Our even had a number of speakers, and the sound was great. Lighting was subtle, and perfect...it didn't detract from the main speakers, it only added to the cool vibe of this hidden gem. Book now, as I'm sure as this inviting venue tucked in the heart of North Park will soon be booked non-stop. Glad there is a near by parking structure (not associate with the Sunset Temple), as street parking in NO can be a challenge at times. But if you know NP, that's par for the course. A little hassle with parking is well worth the special experience of this outstanding venue. I hope to work with them again in the future. Thank you Spencer and Clair!!! We've been planning a wedding with Sunset Temple for several months and they took care of so many of the details for us beautifully, and with such INCREDIBLE SERVICE. We brought the photo booth, DJ, flowers, favors, champagne glasses, candles and wedding cake but they provided pretty much everything else. In one stop we received tables, chairs, linens, plates and utensils, 200 votive holders, an amazing dinner, soft drinks, coffee bar with all sides, and staff to serve the food and cake, to work the door and the bar, clean it all up afterwards and unbelievably, to give us "day-of" coordination as well. They made us a slide show with pictures we gave Todd and strung market lights in the main room. They set up a lounge for us upstairs and they had the place gorgeous and ready well ahead of "go" time. They didn't let us lift a finger through out the night and were always near to assist with whatever came up. They handled the lighting, the late guests, and the mess. They rehearsed with us and they made it all so easy. The food was SO good :) (We wanted a Taco Bar, Beans, Rice, Salsa, Salad, ..etc - best Mexican we've had in a while) Claire, Todd and Eddie did even more though; they encouraged and supported us, they laughed with us and they did everything they could to make us feel welcomed and to feel important to them. Claire managed our contract and asked for all of the things we wanted and talked through how she could provide each of those things. She is kind and attentive, a listener and so down to earth and easy to work with. Todd designed a thousand things around the plan, technically savvy and patient, and so good to us. Eddie we completely underestimated because he looks like a tough guy ;) Then he NAILED it! He was so creative and artistic, and able to manage the vendors, and assist everyone in the party and on the guest list, as well as put out fires before they could start without me ever knowing ... He even decorated our cake (GORGEOUS, with roses). We LOVE these people! (seriously, we would choose them for friends). We were given a FABULOUS deal for all of this too, and they were worth every penny and much more. I wish I had the money to pay them what they're worth! We absolutely plan to have another event at Sunset with this amazing, talented team. read more

On Aug 3rd I experienced what I envisioned for my very special night to celebrate becoming a Sales Director with Mary Kay. When I walked into the venue it was breath taking from the decorations, food display, and layout of room. This venue is absolutely amazing and my wedding was absolutely perfect. It was beautiful, elegant, romantic, unique to us, and was exactly what I envisioned in my head. I will recommend them to everyone I can in the future. Here are more details: THE VENUE The space is gorgeous, unique, vintage, and loaded with character. It was a men's club in the 30's and has so many details that make the space have a great feel. We utilized the stage both for the ceremony and for our 8-piece reception band. The space was made for dancing and the sound system in the space is amazing. I received compliments all night about the venue. THE STAFF I was amazed to find out that the venue rental included a day-of coordinator, and then was even more blown away by our coordinator, Eddie. Eddie made sure that everything went so beautifully and smoothly on our day, but he also was so attentive and involved from the day we met all the way up to our actual day. Todd is the space manager, and he helped create the environment in exactly the specifications I desired and then ran all the tech the evening of including putting on a light show for us to accompany our band. Claire owns the building and she is so personable and wants you to have the most amazing day of your life and does everything she can to be sure it happens. INCLUDED You can't beat the price of this venue and everything it includes. The venue rental encompasses tables, chairs, lounge furniture, set up, staff, sound system, linens, china, flatware, and for extra they'll do your catering too. Claire booked our caterer and I received so many compliments on the food. Plus, any changes or adjustments you want to make they will accommodate. They have no vendor restrictions and they also know a bunch of vendors if you don't know who to hire. I just can't speak highly enough about Sunset Temple and I can't thank them enough for making our special day truly miraculous. read more

I had my wedding here and it was an amazing venue. Randy and the rest of the staff were so efficient! Everything went off without a hitch and the built in sound and lighting was flawless! The staff was 2 steps ahead of me at all times and every time I asked if something had been taken care of the answer was always 'yes already done' They also helped us load up our cars at the end of the night! Everyone was so impressed with the venue... when they walked in the vibe, music and lights made the whole event feel professional and it was just beautiful! It has a wonderful vintage charm but can be transformed for any theme. Even more than just the beautiful space, the owner Claire and Randy are AMAZING to work with! I was planning a semi-formal event for about 100 college students on a very tight budget. They went above and beyond (helped us book transportation and the DJ and they included staff, set up, clean up, and even Italian sodas/water in our venue fee) to help us!! They were easy accessible to talk to whenever I had questions. I was able to drop off food for the event the day before and they had everything wonderfully set up the day of. A few weekends back, my non-profit children's theatre company came to a close. We wanted to go out BIG and in style and so I contacted Claire. She immediately let us know how much she believed in the work that we did and that she wanted to create a really special event night for us. Not only did she cut us a great deal, but she made sure that we were able to enjoy our celebration to the fullest. Todd was so helpful with all of our technical needs for the performance and made sure that my actors had everything in place for a successful final show. On the day of the event, Claire had tables, chairs, lounge chairs & bar set up and ready for us. All we had to do was load in and load out our show. Claire was present at our event throughout the evening and even donated some goods to our audience! I found out later that my mother in New York had been in contact with Claire throughout the week to arrange a flower delivery on the evening of the event. My mother loves Claire. As do I. The Sunset Temple is a beautiful venue that feels formal and welcoming at the same time. We had access to their full stage with beautiful draped curtains, the backdrop projection screen, sound booth, bar, balcony for filming, buffet tables and dressing room storage. The space is adaptable for several different banquets, performances, fundraisers and celebrations; for our event, it was just perfect. I can't thank Claire, Todd, and the Sunset Temple enough. I came here because I was invited to a private event, the XSL Poetry Slam & Cookoff. The entire venue was decorated for the holiday and warmth exuded from every design decision. The stage is gorgeous and bathed in beautiful lights that aren't overwhelming. There were fewer than 100 people for a sit down dinner and performance show and the place was cozy and welcoming. Perfect for a small group or reception. The place could have handled several hundred if there hadn't been tables. The staff was professional and efficient. I would recommend this venue for any smaller event, like a wedding reception or private club gathering. It is a beautiful location, right near the center of North Park. read more

Had an event in May 2013. 120 folks were left without AC. The owner put a huge fan, which interfered with the live music we had. Owner promised a professional sound equipment, I did not bring mine. At the sound check 4 hours prior to the event it turned that she did not have professional equipment, nor the promised sound technician. Sound did not come out of the venue system for 3 hours and whatever we got was very unprofessional. I asked for 120 seats, received 80, so I had to pull from her closet another 40 chairs. If that was not enough it took small claim court threads and several months, so I can recover the paid cash $500 deposit back. Her check was NSF. The owner is sweet but that sure is not enough for a successful event you might want to produce. I had 2 of the most famous Bulgarian pop singers performing and that night I was so so embarrassed. I hope she gets it better in the future. The hall is beautiful. read more

I am sure the space is nice enough, but the service is as absolutely nightmarish as one could ever want to find. I have an event (now booked at another venue down the road) that needed to find a home and both called and emailed for OVER A MONTH without a single response. NONE NO RESPONSE AT ALL Is there possible a worse way to do business? If this is the gateway to working with this space, one can only imagine the terrible experience it would be to actually be in contract with them. My God, what if something goes wrong or you need the simplest of communication. Again, I tried mixing up the messages, giving more or less information and had friends leave messages in case it was just my voice. NOTHING. The website gives a contact form and a phone number, these are ignored 100% of the time. Trying for 5 weeks is about enough. I would never attend anything at this space, knowing that the managers/owners give no consideration to simple service or humanity. The worst event planning experience of my life. Hideous. read more
