Used to be my favorite place to go every time I was in town. I went this morning for a mani-pedi and left before I could get my hands done because the man giving me the service was creepy and inappropriate. I have not seen this employee before but he spent the entirety of my pedicure making insanely inappropriate comments about my legs and feet. He also took a long time almost as if he wasn't letting me get up to do my nails. My mom came with me and was finished with both her mani and pedi while I was still waiting for him to finish up with my feet. I ended up canceling the manicure because I was uncomfortable. Very unsettling experience and I will not be going back even though I have been a proud customer for years. read more

My sister and I came here in January when visiting Marathon and had a great experience. I called to make an appointment and was pleasantly surprised they could fit us in that afternoon. When we arrived staff was very friendly and attentive. The pedicure was amazing and my sister agreed too. Very high-quality pedicure, I got gel, and it's been 3 weeks and still looks fresh. Oftentimes I find when getting a pedicure places they try and rush you out of there, here they did the opposite. They took their time and it was super relaxing. Called in at 1 pm to make an appointment for 3:30. He asked for my name and said "see you then" Came in at 3:30 and was told "just a few minutes, pick a color" i went to sit down and wait. Once the current person getting their nails done finished, another person was waiting before me (most likely without an appointment) and started getting their full set done. the same thing happened to the other nail tech and other client waiting. there was 4 nail techs in there, and only 2 of them do acrylics. at this point, i had been waiting for half an hour. the man tech came up to me and said "just a few more minutes" but really, it would be 45 MINUTES?!? at 4:45 i was FINALLY told it was my turn. for my 3:30 appointment... a client came in wanting a full set of acrylics done and the man said "we have no more time today" so the lady asked to come in on a different day but wanted to make an appointment. the man said "no we don't take appointments" DONT GO THERE!! it also smells abnormally chemically. read more

I've never written a review for any business in my life but I am blown away by the manicure I just received at Sunset Spa and need everyone else to know. I'm a local and split my year between Marathon and New York City. In Marathon, I have been loyal to a different nail spot in town for the last 10 years. I was never wow'ed by my mani's there but they were fine, I knew I would never get NYC-quality manicures in the keys, plus I became close with my nail tech so I just kept going. This was my second time going to Sunset for a dip mani, the first time because my usual spot was too busy and I was in a rush. A man did my dip mani my first time here and I was super impressed (and immediately thought it was better than my other spot but my loyalty caused me to return to the other nail place anyway). Then today, I got my second dip mani here by a female and I can't explain how content I am with the amount of attention my tech paid to my nails. She did an incredible job with everything from my cuticles to polish to shape and this is officially my new nail place in town. Honestly might be better than my spot in NYC. Really impressed! There are an abundance of these types of nail establishments in the area. My advice? Go to another one. I paid for a mani - pedi. What I received was the quickest pedi (really a polish change with a nail cut and cuticle CUT. A polish change instead of a manicure. ) There was no lotion applied, no massage etc. All of this was painful, rough and done as quickly as possible. The price? $45.00. When I was sent to the drying table there was not a customer after me. No need to hurry. My "technician" moved directly to her phone. Not only was this NOT a manicure & pedicure, but just polish changes, but I have been to the same type of nail salons everywhere, including Marathon. Never have I been anywhere like this. I have also had the pleasure of spending time at Ciao Bella Spa in Islamorada. If you'd like a pedicure and a nail polish change there - your total bill is the same as it is here. read more

There were mixed reviews of this salon but the good ones were quite positive so I went for it. The gentleman who did my pedicure was clearly either inexperienced or uncomfortable with the job. He was very slow and tentative in everything he did. Since my confidence was not great, I preferred this to him being overly aggressive. I had a large chip out of one of my big toenails. I didn't expect him to cut the nail all the way back to eliminate the chip. However, he really didn't seem to know how to shape the nail to minimize the appearance of the chip. When he was about to paint the nails, the other large toenail had a ragged edge. I pointed this out and his response was to take out the cuticle nippers and cut on the skin at the end of the toe. Eventually I convinced him to file the nail a bit more. Once he started painting, I was really concerned. He constantly got polish on the skin around the nails. When he got to the large nail, it was a mess. Lumpy, streaky, polish on my skin - ugh! He realized what a mess it was and asked one of the other technicians to take over. Instead of removing the lumpy polish on my large toenails, she simply painted over the lumpy mess. To her credit, she was good at applying the polish. The lumpiness smoothed out a bit so I didn't stop her. Once I went over to the dryer and had good light, I could see that the polish was still not as smooth as it should be and was raggedy down at the cuticles. I went to the woman who had taken over the polish application and asked her just to re-do the large toenails when she was done with her current client. She said that the nails looked fine. Okay . . . I went back to dryer and let the polish cure a little more. As I was about to leave, she came by and asked "Are you going to leave?" Yeah, I left. Too late to fix things, honey. I don't think everyone is bad or incompetent at this salon. But, this was not a good example of customer service. The correct response would have been "Sure! As soon as I finish up here I'll take care of it." read more

Well... I went in with my mom, sister and niece to get our nails and toes done for my wedding which is today! After two days of having my nails which I got with the dip they are already cracking, they look horrible, they're rough, and we paid almost $400 for all of us. I called them this morning to see if they could redo them and the guy told me yes they could but I still have to pay which is ridiculous as we paid a ton and we were there for over 3 hours which was insanely long especially for my niece. I am just upset as they wouldn't fix them as they are the ones that made them look the way they do. I will never go their again and I will let all my friends and family know not to give them their service. It is so disappointing that they cannot fix their mistake. I have never been to a nail place with such horrible service. My sister and nieces nail looked ok. My moms nails were ok but not to our satisfaction. I highly do not recommend this place. She cut me (because she was too busy talking and not paying attention) and had the nerve to catch an attitude when I told her I no longer wanted gel. She didn't even finish my manicure! They charged me full price when they know they provided HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. The man who does nails in this establishment couldn't even put polish on my toes because of his lack of skill. We were very pleased with the work they did and they discounted the price since I was paying for all 3. The salon itself needs a little maintenance the chairs were a little tattered and the bathroom needed some servicing. While we were there the music was a little loud for the waiting area since it was coming from a laptop and turned loud enough for the rest of the salon to hear. read more

I made an appt for a certain time and when I got there the man (owner) was just starting on a new client, who now has taken over my time. I have the dip, so after a few minutes he brought a bowl of a liquid to me and pushed my fingers down in it. He said he would be back in 10 minutes. He returned in 30 minutes, checked my nails and pushed them back in. I had a mask on so I could not smell what was in the bowl, but noticed my fingers were turning white so I took them out of the solution. A female came by and pushed them back in. I realized now that it was pure acetone. By this time they were in the acetone for 40 minutes. I took them out. Now my cuticles are ruined and my fingers are bleached white. After 45 minutes he finished his other client and had me move to his chair and he started on mine. I wanted to keep my length but he decided to cut them shorter to match my thumb nail which was a little shorter. So my nails are barely long. After all this he charged me the $40 and did not even apologize for ruining my fingers and cuticles. The very next day two nails chipped, then one more chipped half way off, and now I can't bring myself to return to that solon to be corrected. I am afraid of what he would do this time. I had been there the previous week so I guess it was okay to screw me. And I live here. read more

We were down here for a wedding and wanted to pamper ourselves a little bit before the big day. I went in for a pedicure without an appointment. Despite it being a busy day for them, they were able to squeeze me in. Once in the chair, I opted for the Deluxe Pedicure. Other than a significant price difference, I am still trying to figure out what exactly the difference between a normal pedicure and the deluxe pedicure was supposed to be. The gentleman that provided the service to me introduced him self and went to work on my feet. The first thing I noticed was that the tools were not sterilized prior to use, not even dunked in Barbicide. After removing the old nail polish from my toes, he started to work on the cuticles, which was pretty painful to me. When he was buffing my toe nails, he continued to include my toes in this process which led wounds similar to carpet burn on some of my toes. He then applied the nail polish i decided on, primer, clolour, top coat. The finish product looked pretty rough, as he did not clean up uneven brush strokes and the polish on the skin. I'm glad I didn't opt for a manicure, that would have been even more of a disaster! Overall this was the worst experience I a nail salon in decades. I believe that the person that provided the service to me was not a trained nail technician. Later I found out that some other ladies with the bridal party went to this salon. The finished product looked horrible! The colour (white) was uneven and blotchy, and just like my toes, they did not clean up the nails before applying the top coat. The result was painted cuticles. It looked so very bad! I wish I would have known this before I we t there. read more

Today I visited this business for a pedicure with a bridal party. I found myself in an unusual situation. The lady giving me my pedicure accidentally cut my heel using the tool used to remove callouses. I found it painful when she put on the callous removal gel. When I looked down at my heel, it had about 3/4 of an inch of my skin removed. I now have an open wound on my heel that really hurts. I don't know if the tech lacks training, experience, or both. Although the lady apologized, I was still asked to pay. Although I'm sure my foot will heal, I'm now being faced with whether or not I should get in the water. Total bummer as I'm in the Keys and can't go swimming now. I wish I had stayed home. read more

WORST NAIL SALON EVER. I went to get gel acrylics and I had to tell them multiple times that my nails were too long and to cut them. Also i had lines and white spots on my nails after and the lady filed my nails and they were slanted!!!! I had to fix them myself in the car because I told the lady they were slanted MULTIPLE times and she couldn't fix it so I had to.
