But what about breakfast, you ask? That's great too. Our first morning was Almond Ciabatta French Toast with Michigan maple syrup and locally produced breakfast sausage. The next morning was this soufflé sort of dish with hash browns, mushrooms, and eggs served in a small bowl, with bacon on the side. Locally baked multi-grain bread was served with fresh Michigan preserves. Every day, there's a fresh fruit cup with berry yogurt and their delicious Korner Kottage Krunch (see KK website for details). Basic idea though, this is the best granola I've ever had. Otherwise, our room (Paris) was comfy and clean. The screened in front porch is nice for winding down with a good book. The location is perfect for walking around downtown, and is across the street from the beach. A quick drive takes you to wineries slightly North, to Old Mission Peninsula, and to downtown Traverse City. Free wi-fi too. Yelper alert--while sitting inside Korner Kottage, my iPhone yelp app said I couldn't check in because I was 2.2 miles away. Not sure if this is due to AT&T coverage, or the app.

Lake N' Pines Lodge was the choice after hours spent looking at spots to stay near Traverse City…read more My girlfriend has a great track record picking good places, and she did not disappoint this time. We were welcomed to LNP by the couple who own the small lodge. We stayed on the second floor of the guest house, with a deck looking out onto the water. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with a calming, woodsy decor, and a lot of thought put into the details. The owners had left us a couple sodas in the fridge, and lots of nice soaps and stuff in the bathroom. They invited us to canoe on the lake, but I really wanted a nap after the drive in from Chicago, and my girlfriend found the hundreds of channels on TV. We filled out a menu card, and breakfast was brought up to our room in the morning. It was a really treat, and for guests like us who would rather eat a private breakfast, the best accommodation a B&B could make. The location was super close to Traverse City and the National Park, but also set off plenty, on back roads. Interlochen reminded me of the north woods of Wisconsin, and is home to a major NPR station. The stay at Lake N' Pines Lodge really put me at ease.

Since we wouldn't be getting in until close to midnight, we pre-arranged our check-in and had a cute welcome letter and breakfast card waiting at our arrival. This was our first B&B experience and it was the little touches that will have us coming back. There were complimentary bottles of water and soda in the fridge. The kitchen had several amenities such as: pots, pans, utensils, and even spices. So if you wanted to, you could prepare all your meals on site. We were here for a wedding, so we did not utilize this feature, but worth noting. Room service was complimentary every morning and the options for breakfast were expansive and delicious. I had the blueberry pancakes the first morning and eggs, bagel, and sweet potatoes the next. Both were served with Coffee and OJ and seriously good! The room itself was the perfect size for two people, but had a hideaway bed, that could sleep two additional people. The decor was what you would expect of a northern Michigan fish town, log furniture and a touch of kitsch. Outside, we had our own mini-deck, table and chairs. There was a decent sized flatscreen in our room with over 100 channels a DVD player. We just channel surfed in between our trip excursions, but they even had a new selection of movies in the main house that could be borrowed. The location is what really cemented our appreciation for this place. It is far enough off the beaten trail that nature overtakes the sound of motorists. There is an on-sight dock with complimentary boats, kayaks, and canoes that can be taken out. It is absolutely beautiful. Here you are halfway between Benzonia and Traverse City, which we found particular ideal. My only gripe was that the bedding and towels were both musty upon arrival. I am sure that our hosts would have taken care of it right away had we said something, but we were exhausted and it wasn't worth the hassle. This aside, it was still a great and hospitable place to stay. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

I can only hope they make you oatmeal while you're there. I'm still thinking about it, a week later. The common areas are gorgeous and the library would keep me busy for at least a season. My husband and I wondered (only slightly in jest) how much it would cost to live there forever. Then we remembered something something family and friends back home and a need to remain employed. Damn.

Sally (the Inn keeper) and her grandson Onders are an absolute delight. Breakfast was fresh and delicious and the coffee was pretty amazing! You can choose to eat outside on the covered porch overlooking Lake Michigan or eat inside. We took in as much nature as we could while we were here, we took our bikes from the Inn and rode them to the old mission lighthouse, and when we returned we took out one of the kayaks they have for guests to borrow and watched the sunset. The lake was nice and quiet that evening, just what the soul needed.

Linda and Ken, the owners of the home, are warm and gracious. They will greet you at the door as though you are an old friend just stopping by. The home is lovingly taken care of as exemplified by the knowledge they have into the history of it and the attention to detail in showing it off. We stayed in the Queen Ann room which had a working fireplace, a four poster bed, and several seats (no TV ; TV wasn't around at the turn of the century). This room, I was told, was originally a sitting room to the master bedroom but was plenty big enough for our one-night stay. The attached bathroom was small but met our needs and didn't detract from the décor at all. Breakfast was at 9am sharp. Linda served homemade puff pancakes with fruit topping and sausage. I had never heard of puff pancakes but they were a great. I didn't realize this going into my stay, but breakfast is served with all the guests of the Inn. So be prepared to make small talk with the other people staying in the house! I would give my stay 5 stars except that other than the Shorts Brewery, which is why we were there in the first place, there is not much else to do in town. There appears to be one other higher-end type restaurant that closed relatively early and another local watering-hole within walking distance but not much else. We would've stayed longer had the town offered more this time of year (October). If you are interested in staying here, be aware that it's about 45-1 hour drive to Traverse City, although Torch Lake is close by if you were coming for that.
