It is made sweeter by screen doors, wide open lawn speckled with daisies, whimsical landscaping, good morning coffee in the office, and mascot, Duke the retriever. We enjoyed playing corn hole and ladder ball in the afternoon and a fire by the lake in the evening. It was fun and tranquil at the same time. The weather was lovely early June and I'm sure when school is out and summer is in full swing the games and beach fun is multiplied.

We've been waiting for Riverside Inn to really find its stride under the new ownership (which "new"…read moreis really several years old now!), and last night felt like it may finally be getting there. Riverside was a favorite of ours when Kate owned it, and over the past few years we've kept coming back hoping to see the new owners develop a more consistent kitchen and, importantly, a menu with an identity of its own rather than one that sometimes felt like it was trying to emulate the best restaurants around the area. Last night delivered. The food was consistently good across the table--the chicken was cooked and seasoned to perfection, the pasta was excellent, and the accompaniments felt thoughtful and well executed. And please, whatever you do, never get rid of the whipped mashed potatoes. Those have consistently been something Riverside does very well. The focaccia with corn was fabulous and butter with honey is way better than previous iterations of butter with olives??? Nobody wants that. Service got off to a very delayed start, but once our server found a rhythm, things got back on track and the rest of the evening flowed much better. It feels like Riverside is beginning to settle into what it wants to be rather than chasing something they're not, and that's encouraging to see. We've been waiting for that. Last night was the most confident and consistent the restaurant has felt in a while, and we're hopeful they keep heading in this direction.

Our guests travelled a long way for this event (as far as Atlanta). When we arrived we found the restaurant closed, ruining our celebration. I contacted the owner and she said she was sorry , but they did not have a chef or any staff! SO UNPROFESSIONAL AND SO DISAPPOINTING!

It had a strong musty, dank smell. We left the sliding door open at all times when in the room and it did not help. The door handle was broken and would not stay closed. The bathroom had hair (not from someone's head) around the sink and toilet when we checked in. The white towels in the bathroom had disturbing yellow stains on them. The shower curtain was stained. The sink and shower fixtures in the bathroom are old and dirty, the toilet seat loose and ill fitting. I strongly recommend looking for accommodations elsewhere.

Lastly, hubby Couldn't get temp down in room, however we were thankful we could open window and deck door to get comfortable. Suggestions-the one chair provided is really worn. A small desk workspace or side table. Some additional art on walls, one piece leaves place feeling sterile. Robes esp since microwave is in hall. Loved the entry table, stunning piece!! Would love to see a couple of comfortable chairs in front of fireplace downstairs. Also, you can hear everything thru the walls. Keep in mind if it's an adult getaway ;) Also no vouchers for coffee shop or wine tasting room as yelp add stated. Gym is separate business and additional $10 per person, per day.

We were originally going to spend most of our time in Traverse City, so we were disappointed to be 30 minutes out from the city. However, we had such an amazing time exploring Northport, Sutton's Bay, Old Fishtown, and other small cities off of the M-22 loop that we never even ventured to Traverse City! Jane and Jack are the owners of the B&B and are so nice. They did an amazing job making us feel welcomed, but still giving us our space to enjoy one another. The house is a historic building in Northport and the décor is consistent with that. Even though it is an older home, it is well taken care of and updated to accommodate guests. There is a very cool old fireplace out back and they allow guests to sit at the fire in the evening. Jane always had a serving tray filled with ingredients for smores waiting for us. She even had bug spray for us. They also have a mini fridge filled with water and pop for guest to enjoy. Jane is a phenomenal cook and we enjoyed the breakfast she prepared both mornings. She presents it beautifully and gives you plenty. Overall, we were just so pleased with our stay and loved meeting Jane and Jack. I would highly recommend this Bed and Breakfast!
