Unfortunately, what happened during our stay--and the way it was handled afterward--completely changed my opinion. Our room had a significant fruit fly problem. This wasn't one or two flies that we happened to notice. They were throughout the room, landing around our belongings and water bottles, and when we woke up in the morning there were so many that they were around our faces. I took pictures because I couldn't believe the number of them in a hotel room. We had been traveling through Michigan for the week and stayed at multiple other properties without experiencing anything remotely similar. We also travel to Northern Michigan regularly, so when management explained that there is a short period each year when fruit flies can be particularly prevalent in the area, I understood the explanation--but it didn't explain why this was the only hotel room where we encountered them at this level. I brought the issue to management's attention and gave the hotel an opportunity to make it right. I was initially offered a 15% refund. I explained why I didn't believe that was an appropriate resolution, and management took my concerns back to the owners for further review. I was ultimately told that the owners had decided the 15% refund would remain their final resolution and that nothing additional would be offered. I declined the 15%. I've worked in hospitality for 25 years, and what disappoints me most isn't simply that the room had a problem. Problems happen in hotels, restaurants, and every other hospitality business. What defines a hospitality organization is how it responds when something goes wrong. For a property positioning itself as a boutique hotel, I expected considerably more care in both the condition of the room and the response afterward. Being awakened with fruit flies around us is not an experience I consider acceptable, regardless of the season. I'll include my photos with this review so people can see what we experienced and make their own judgment. I don't enjoy leaving reviews like this, and I gave the property an opportunity to address the situation privately before posting publicly. Unfortunately, after the owners determined that 15% was their final resolution, I felt it was important to share an honest account of our experience. The room had a lot of potential. Our room was clean and we loved the beautiful views of the water. Prefect spot for a little get away. We read outside on the beach chairs, you could tell they cleaned outside the daily. We didn't get in the inside or outside pool and hot tubes but they looked great. They serve breakfast in the morning but unfortunately I was too tired to get up to check it out but they always had water and coffee available and cookies.

Our stay at the Grey Hare was thoroughly enjoyed by both of us. Derrek and Sarah were so attentive and made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. The attention to details was impressive - there were glasses of port and chocolate set out for us every night, homemade snacks available in the sitting room and the breakfasts Sarah prepared were so delicious they bordered on decadent. Every morning, Derrek served us a special homemade pastry with coffee at 8:30am while Sarah made our breakfast, ready at 9am. The timing was very relaxing and gave us a chance to enjoy the beautiful scenery surrounding the inn. We stayed in the Barnyard room, which was roomy with a separate sitting room where we could relax and enjoy the view of cherry orchards and bay. The linens were top quality, and the bed was very comfortable. We decided to stay on the peninsula for the majority of our visit and with the recommendations from Sarah and Derrek, we found a nice beach, a fancy restaurant, a retro general store and several roadside stands that sold cherry and lavender products. If you go, be sure to stop at the Harbor View Lavender Farm; their ice cream is special (lavender and honey)!

Linda and Ken, the owners of the home, are warm and gracious. They will greet you at the door as though you are an old friend just stopping by. The home is lovingly taken care of as exemplified by the knowledge they have into the history of it and the attention to detail in showing it off. We stayed in the Queen Ann room which had a working fireplace, a four poster bed, and several seats (no TV ; TV wasn't around at the turn of the century). This room, I was told, was originally a sitting room to the master bedroom but was plenty big enough for our one-night stay. The attached bathroom was small but met our needs and didn't detract from the décor at all. Breakfast was at 9am sharp. Linda served homemade puff pancakes with fruit topping and sausage. I had never heard of puff pancakes but they were a great. I didn't realize this going into my stay, but breakfast is served with all the guests of the Inn. So be prepared to make small talk with the other people staying in the house! I would give my stay 5 stars except that other than the Shorts Brewery, which is why we were there in the first place, there is not much else to do in town. There appears to be one other higher-end type restaurant that closed relatively early and another local watering-hole within walking distance but not much else. We would've stayed longer had the town offered more this time of year (October). If you are interested in staying here, be aware that it's about 45-1 hour drive to Traverse City, although Torch Lake is close by if you were coming for that.

We enjoyed playing corn hole and ladder ball in the afternoon and a fire by the lake in the evening. It was fun and tranquil at the same time. The weather was lovely early June and I'm sure when school is out and summer is in full swing the games and beach fun is multiplied.

When you rent the townhome you have the option on buying breakfast and we did that most days. Let me say the breakfasts were spectacular they were stunning like something you would see in a magazine. The Inn Keeper was Laura and she is amazing. Incredible meals and truly cares about the guests. This experience is a 10/10 and 5 stars doesn't do it justice. I don't have enough good things to say.

The "Breakfast" part of Bed and Breakfast molds my opinion of a place, and this one's pretty good…read more The pumpkin pecan waffles were nicely crispy and not too sweet; they were made-to-order for each person in a few minutes, and there was a yogurt-and-granola parfait at each place to keep you entertained --- again, nicely not-too-sweet. Coffee starts at 7:30, and breakfast is 8:30 -- 10:00. Our room also worked well --- we got a suite on the ground floor, and enjoyed having a small living room to stretch out in. I also got a quick tour of some of the other rooms --- some are mostly about the bed. Most of the rooms (including the suite) have their own bathrooms; a few of the smaller rooms share bathrooms, which usually works well for us but wasn't what we needed this trip. Innkeeper Katie (and her assistant/husband Jeff) are retiring and training their successor. Katie was quite friendly and helpful; I'll be sorry to see her go. For nights when we're not camping, Glen Arbor B&B will probably be our pick in the area.

This place was fantastic to stay in. I was unsure what room to book and where any of them were located, so I chose the Cedar Room. Pulling up to this place, you can already tell that it's going to have that "homey" like setup to it. We checked in a little bit later than expected (you have a 3pm to 6pm window). We walked in through the guest entrance and were greeted and toured around the common area. You get complimentary coffee, pop, cookies and other snacks in the common room kitchen area. The Cedar Room, where we were staying, was right next to the entrance where guests were coming and going every so often. I wasn't aware of that and might not select that room in the future because of the feeling that everyone can hear you that are nearby. Sleeping through the night was a little bit tough too in this room depending on the type of people above you. When people walk above you or use their bathroom, you can clearly hear it. The bed was so comfy though and the privacy shades made it so dark in the room, that we were able to fall back asleep pretty quickly. The breakfast part of this adventure, was absolutely amazing. Phil and Marci really know how to cook and prepare a mean breakfast! The two mornings that we were able to have breakfast, we had some great spreads! Day 1: -Mini blueberry, strawberry, granola, vanilla yogurt parfait -Quiche (egg, green pepper, onion, potato) -Bacon -Very soft bread with herb butter -Orange Juice Day 2: -Watermelon and kiwi fruit cup -Croissant with cherry jam -Quiche (egg, spinach) -Scalloped potatoes -Cherries -Sausage -Orange Juice Talk about a great way to start your day huh? They also had a great brew of coffee going and other k-cups available. It was hard to check out, that was for sure. It was a nice home away from home.
