But what about breakfast, you ask? That's great too. Our first morning was Almond Ciabatta French Toast with Michigan maple syrup and locally produced breakfast sausage. The next morning was this soufflé sort of dish with hash browns, mushrooms, and eggs served in a small bowl, with bacon on the side. Locally baked multi-grain bread was served with fresh Michigan preserves. Every day, there's a fresh fruit cup with berry yogurt and their delicious Korner Kottage Krunch (see KK website for details). Basic idea though, this is the best granola I've ever had. Otherwise, our room (Paris) was comfy and clean. The screened in front porch is nice for winding down with a good book. The location is perfect for walking around downtown, and is across the street from the beach. A quick drive takes you to wineries slightly North, to Old Mission Peninsula, and to downtown Traverse City. Free wi-fi too. Yelper alert--while sitting inside Korner Kottage, my iPhone yelp app said I couldn't check in because I was 2.2 miles away. Not sure if this is due to AT&T coverage, or the app.

It was tastefully appointed, immaculately clean, and absolutely perfect. The room had a faux fireplace, which was nice, and a TV with a VCR. The inn has a large collection of VHS tapes -- makes me wonder if they bought out a Blockbuster or something! The inn wifi was very strong and fast enough to stream Hulu without issue. Jamie is the perfect host. She's thought about everything... we wanted for nothing while we were there. High end toiletries, local newspapers, a wide assortment of teas, amazing homecooked (and gourmet) breakfasts (including eggs from her chickens) and indulgent homemade deserts? Yeah. Find that in a Marriott. It's a good thing we did so much skiing, otherwise we would have gained weight on this trip! I woke up in the middle of my second night staying at the Inn. I felt so cozy and comfortable in bed, rolled over, and immediately went back to sleep. As someone who spends over 100 nights away from home in a hotel room for work some years, this is a huge deal. I don't think I've ever felt as comfortable, as welcome, and as home? as I did while I was here. Why stay in a shoddy motel or a soulless resort when you could be staying here?! Seriously! 5/5 stars... would stay again!

She also has wonderful stories of her adventures during the off season that are sure to delight you. The rooms are very comfortable and extremely well kept. Air conditioning is available and separately controlled in each room. Each room has a private bathroom. Breakfast each morning is served with fruit, some type of bread, and a very delicious hot dish. She even serves her own made grape juice. The grounds are immacutely tended to. She also has a wonderful sun room where breakfast is served each morning and one can take advantage of it throughout the day to read or relax. The only complaint I have is that I can't take her home with me!!

They were accommodating to us on very short notice and served as our base for exploring the Leelenau Peninsula. Our room was comfortable with a nice queen size bed and we got some wonderful sunset photos off of the back deck over looking some of their 12 acres. The sun was beautiful as it dipped below the tree line. Breakfast with good coffee was homemade by Scott and included his delicious french toast in a caramel vanilla egg wash.

When the owner mentioned it, I was very disappointed, but once we were there, I was so happy with the opportunity. With any B&B, you're staying in the main house, having idle chit chat with other guests, and sometimes hear people in other rooms. The cabin, you have none of this, just perfect tranquility, silence, and isolation. The owners stocked up the fridge for us and we can have breakfast in our own cabin. It was more of a continental breakfast, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, granola, etc..., but it was so pleasant. The cabin is located about 500 feet from the main house and several miles from the main road, and about 8 miles from downtown Traverse City. You really get in the woods feeling without being to far from the city and you have a river flowing through your backyard. It is a really nice place and I would gladly stay there again.

For goodness, sake, muzack is not appropriate for this setting. Ever. Both of our drinks were an epic fail. If we go back (we're local), we would stick to wine or beer. I don't know if they have a kid making drinks or they are just badly trained in making cocktails, but they are a total miss! We had the sweetest server.

It's also located in a scenic spot -- beautiful Omena Bay is right down the hill. The lodge itself is comprised of several historic buildings. When we stay here we prefer a room in the Wheeler House, the main house that's also the inkeepers' residence; the second floor is home to four very nicely appointed guest rooms, each with a private bath. The dining room and sitting rooms are on the first floor; guests can enjoy a crackling wood fire in the fireplace, play the piano or just sit and read in the front rooms. Another house on property also has guest rooms, we believe, while a third house is divided into suites. There's also a game/activity building with its own fireplace and kitchenette. The hosts are friendly and helpful, and are excellent cooks -- we love the breakfasts! They're also very knowledgeable about the area, and about the history of their establishment. We really enjoy them. Omena, between Suttons Bay and Northport, is in the northern section of the Leelanau Peninsula but still makes a good, convenient base camp for exploring the rest of the area. We would definitely recommend Sunset Lodge for couples as well as for groups. After driving down "motel row" in nearby Traverse City, we were even more convinced that mom-and-pop lodging is the way to go up here, and that we have found a real travelers' gem in Sunset Lodge.

This place has obviously seen better days. It is reasonably clean, doesn't have an unpleasant…read moresmell, but our room had problems--some cosmetic, some not--that make it unlikely we'll stay there again. One of the ceiling tiles was mostly pulled off. Though the sides of the shower stall looked recently replaced, the floor of it was coming apart. More concerning, the door looked like it had been recently jimmied open, and the frame of the window screen was pulled out from the window (see photos)--it wouldn't be hard for someone to pull out the full screen, and if mosquitoes were out they'd be getting in your room. The dresser had a notice taped to it stating that one of its legs was broken--instead of printing out the notice, why not fix the leg? Some of the towels had a distinct yellow stain--we made a point of using the whiter ones. Be aware that the room door locks automatically, and you can't set it to stay unlocked--if you close it behind you, you will be locked out, so check to be sure you've got your key before leaving. We didn't learn this the hard way, but easily could have. At least it was quiet, and close to where we needed to be. I have seen worse, though next time I'm in the area, I'll be looking for something better.
