Like most people, I came specifically to see the famous Peabody Ducks make their grand entrance, and BABY, it did not disappoint! The lobby is absolutely regal, and the staff was friendly and welcoming. I grabbed a seat, ordered a French 75 (which was REALLY good), and waited for the main event. Now, I knew the ducks were a big deal, but I wasn't expecting ALL the pomp and circumstance. LOL. The Duckmaster was fantastic! Personable, well-spoken, and entertaining. Even his explanation of the house rules was enjoyable, and surprisingly, everyone followed them! And then came the ducks! SO CUTE! I thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience. If you're visiting Memphis, this is an absolute MUST-SEE! Between the beautiful hotel, great atmosphere, and famous ducks, it's well worth the visit. I'll definitely be back, and hopefully as an overnight guest next time!

I had seen a few 'You Tube' videos about The Peabody and was very excited to be stopping here even if it was for just 30 minutes. We were not staying here but I wanted to walk the downstairs just to get an idea of this place. It truly is a wonderful-old-oppulent place where you can just see and feel the history around you. The dim lighting along with the dark woods just send you back in time. Our purpose to come to The famous Peabody hotel were to see the ducks. We came to late to see them come into the pool and too early to se them leave but just watching them splash around and have what looked like a really good time was fun. (See photos) The layout of the lower level is beautiful and I just explored until finally making my way to the gift shop. They have a pretty extensive collection of anything Memphis and I would up walking out with an "Elvis Duck" for my collection. If you come to Memphis make sure you stop by, even if you're not staying here. It's worth it.

So, we did the same thing this year and this experience has been just as pleasant as the last time so this just might be our go to hotel when traveling south. It was a great way to break up a long drive. This hotel also offers dinner until 10 and has a small bar. We ordered from the Radisson Bar and Grille last night for dinner and it was just what we needed after many hours on the road. It was so nice to not have to drive anywhere for dinner once arriving. The pool is a really great addition to have, especially outside since it was blazing hot in September during our stay. The second door into the lobby locks after hours, meaning you need your room key to open it, which I feel was an extra beneficial layer of security. The breakfast was amazing with a beautiful seating area. The whole building was very clean and staff were very friendly. The beds were nothing to talk highly of, they were about 6" thick and as soon as you lay down, it feels as if you've bottomed out. We stayed two nights and had seen several places to call the front desk if we needed room service before, as they only clean every third day. Imagine our surprise when we left to go explore Memphis and came back and we were not able to get into our room with either of our keys. Once getting reprogrammed, we entered the room to find it had, in fact, been cleaned after one night, with all of our stuff out in the open. Overall, we had an exceptional stay here and if in the area again, we would consider staying here again.

But my boyfriend was a bit uneasy about sharing a dorm room. So we booked a private room (we still needed to share the bathroom). The layout of the hostel was very welcoming. Instructions were well written, and you get the check-in info via email. Our private room was a small bedroom with an AC and two windows. There were about four individual bathrooms instead of a dorm room-style shower/locker room. Breakfast was included (bagel/coffee/tea), and the parking lot was well-lit. Given we only needed a place to sleep for 6 hrs, this place met our needs. We even go to meet some people during our short stay.

(Pro tip: I find it best to read the lowest-rated reviews first then the good reviews so you don't get your hopes up. Also consider when they were written; for example, if there are a few really negative critiques from five years ago but recent ones are favorable, then it's safe to assume that whatever issues customers had in the past have been resolved.) Homegate Inn & Suites was reasonably priced, the current write-ups looked promising, & it was almost 11:30 PM so I made my move in order to guarantee a solid eight hours of much-needed sleep. The front desk attendant was friendly & professional, & the hotel was nice & quiet. My room was HUGE, complete with a sitting area with a desk plus a mini fridge, microwave & coffee pot. While I didn't use any of those amenities, I probably would have if I arrived earlier or stayed longer. Everything was spotless, there were plenty of fresh towels & the pillows were nice & fluffy. Within minutes, I was out like a light & I woke up refreshed & ready to tackle the final leg of my road trip.

There is an elegance about the beauty that is hard to find in homes today. "The Bridgewater School" was founded in 1911 and operated as such until 1960. It was assisted by the Rosenwald Fund in 1921 along with the Shelby County school board. Since being used as a school and community gathering place, it has also housed many travelers as a B&B.
