These people have repaired the brakes on my Rollator twice. First the left side then the right side. Their Staff is Second to None and their Prices are Very Reasonable. One day after a business meeting at Panera Bread- I wondered into Sunset Cyclery. I asked if they did custom bike fitting (as I'd been having quite a bit of recent knee pain when cycling and wasn't sure if it was because of my positioning or the fact that I'm now 40). Ed immediately started asking questions about where the pain typically is, details about my bike, past injuries, and watched the way I walk. He was immediately able to pinpoint my issue without even seeing me on my bike. That next week I brought my bike in for a custom fit and a new pair of pedals and cycling shoes. Ed worked with me for hours to find just right right fit shoe (as apparently I have weird feet) and the perfect pedals / clips for my knee problems. To top it off- once we were all finished- he noticed my bike rack was a total mess (because someone had backed in to it and broke one of the arms off) So he spent half an hour reconfiguring my bike rack to make it more stable. The customer service at Sunset Cyclery is the best I've experienced... ever...anywhere. They take great care of their clients and the best part- I'm now riding my bike with no knee pain! I highly recommend this place to all levels of cycling enthusiasts. They know their stuff and they take good care of you. read more

This shop has done good work for my friends. And they are listed as a Fuji dealer. Note that Fuji has gone through ownership changes recently, and may not be as robust. Still, one of my bikes is a Fuji with a lifetime guaranteed frame. And in June, after riding it about 10,000 miles, it cracked at the seat stay near the rear axle. Since they are a dealer, I took it to Sunset Cyclery to replace the frame. Tim told me that he rarely sees the Fuji rep, but since I had the bike receipt from 2004, he said no problem. I figured I could ride the other bike for a while. I called after four weeks, then eight, then 12, then 16. My bike hung on their rack untouched. Every time, Tim repeated that the rep never comes. In November, I was in the CWE, and stopped in Mike's Bikes. I told them my story, and they said that they see the Fuji rep occasionally, and have his number. They agreed to call the rep and find out how to handle a warranty claim. Next week, Mike's Bikes called, said that the rep can send a new frame. I retrieved my bike from Sunset, took it to Mike's Bikes and had the frame switched over. Done in two weeks. I'm just sayin'. read more

Summary: This place is seriously awesome and I would highly recommend it to anybody looking for an efficient, informative, and personable experience. -- I needed a new bike for college this fall since my old one was was extremely broken. The minute I walked in the door (after a quick second to look around), someone walked up to my family and I and asked what kind of environment I would be riding in and my preferences in style/appearance for a bike. Speaking as a recent high schooler, it was very nice to be treated as an adult and given equal respect. The guy I talked to really knew what he was talking about and immediately picked the perfect bike. We tested it out and he was super helpful to thoroughly explain the answer to any of my many questions (why we measure it a certain way, how knees are *supposed* to feel, height of the frame, the function of shifting, etc.). My recent experience at Sunset Cyclery was so great I felt a review was in order. Bikes are a bit hard to come by these days, and I wasn't expecting to find what I was looking for but I thought to myself "let's stop by sunset just to see what's in stock". There It was, a 2021Rockhopper in a size large. It was perfect but for one thing, I didn't care for the brakes. The guys at sunset let me bring in my old bike and they swapped over all the parts I requested between the 2 bikes. They even through in a few upgrades While they were working on the bikes. They discovered some problems with my 2013 Hardrock and repaired them. They even ordered a part that was needed to complete the swap over of parts. I've Been going to sunset now for 8 years and they have always steered me in the right direction, are friendly, and knowledgeable. I really can't say enough good about my experiences with Sunset Cyclery over the years. I take my bike (now bikes) to them at least once a year for a tune up and every riding season my bike has been trouble free as long as I didn't mess with anything on my own (They fix my mistakes too). read more

Ok, so I will admit, I am not the hugest fan of this shop. I much prefer South County Cyclery, but I will say this, they have a great selection at this shop, a ton of bikes, a ton of accessories...I just don't LIKE it here. I think the main reason I don't like it here, is the place kind of has that, I'm a bike guy and I know more than you because I'm a bike guy, vibe. I HATE that vibe. I mean, I ride my bike, but not everywhere. I ride it for exercise more than transportation, and that's ok with me. I am happy as the bike rider that I am. That said, I always feel a little inferior in this store, and I hate that. I want to feel like they are excited to get me on my bike safely and in style. I always feel like they are judging me. When the attitude stops here, maybe I will start coming here more.... We'll see... read more

don't shop at sunset Cyclery. I usually don't post stuff like this but I just had such a bad experience. Tried to exchange a pair of gloves for a dif pair and had my recipt but didn't have the original packaging. These are the most expensive gloves they sell mind you...70$ gloves...The 2 owners/managers went back and forth about how little money they would make trying to sell them without packaging and debating even doing the exchange in the first place. They reluctantly let me exchange my gloves in the end. They didn't make small talk with me when I tried, or even acknowledge that I was talking to them while they were ringing me out. Sunset, someone who buys the most expensive pair of gloves isn't a casual rider. I was in the market for a 2,500$ MTB... Big business lost from a little pair of gloves. I will be going to the Hub in webster. They go out of their way to be nice. read more

Great store; the owner should be very proud of the extremely helpful staff who helped us adjusting some gears on a bike we'd bought a new shifter for. Even though busy they stopped to cheerfully help us. Yesterday, they tried to help us out with a missing part too. Really cannot say enough about the excellent customer service, which unfortunately seems to be a lost art sometimes. We will be back and will buy new bikes, parts and service her for sure even though we live closer to another well known bike store. read more

I was blown away by their customer service! I was heading out west for a bike ride when I realized that I have broken my Schrader valve after inflating my tire and there was no more air, so I stopped in without an appointment; without my even expressing my need for a repair on the spot, they drop what they were doing to work on my bicycle even though I could clearly see they had three or four other bikes up on the racks. It took them all of 10 minutes and then they demonstrated how to properly inflate that special valve without damaging it. Thank you so much! read more

Went in today on the recommendation of a friend. Had every intention of walking out with a bike, and I did so in less than an hour. I worked primarily with Charlotte, who let me try several bikes to make sure I got the right height. Found one I liked, but she was patient as I tried a few. Was able to pick up a helmet, (free) water bottle and tire pump. All for less than I expected. With my new bike and accessories they gave me 10% off. I'm going to go back to get a carrier for my bike, but need to put a trailer hitch receiver on the back of my Explorer, but Tim has exactly what I need in stock when I go back. Everyone was very friendly - Charlotte, Tim, and Cory (I think - who tuned up my bike). They even helped load it into my vehicle. Very serious bike people, exactly what an amateur like me needs. read more

Good selection of bikes and gear, helpful staff too. The one thing I would change about this place is follow-up. Parts come in, repairs are made, due-dates come and go...all without calling the customer to let them know. It's the one thing that keeps me from giving them a better rating. I cannot recommend Sunset enough. Been going here since I rode bMX, and it's still my go to place now that I'm racing road and track. The staff is incredibly knowledgable and talented. They don't just sell stuff, they have personally ride. And used every product they sell, from the S-Works race bikes down to the bargain bin commuting tires. I have only been there once and I am far more of a casual rider than an enthusiast so let that frame my one, very good experience. Ready to upgrade from regular pedals to clips and riding shoes three separate friends all recommended a particular brand to me saying that this brand is high quality and would be the easiest for me to learn how to clip in and unclip. So I went into the shop and explained what I wanted and why. The guy who helped me (I think he was the manager) quickly told me he had those very pedals in stock, that they were indeed very good and would be happy to sell them to me but they were not the easiest to learn to use, and in fact were more ideal for people with certain knee and other conditions that occasionally cause pain. Well, to make a long story short, while I was prepared to pay for the more expensive pedals he sold me a pair at about half the price after taking about ten minutes showing me and teaching me how different clip systems work and why the one he was recommending would be best suited my skill level (new to clipped pedals, comfortable with the old toe clips). He also sold me a pair of riding shoes, and did sell me up a bit but explained why. As someone who admitted I had dated knowledge of biking but was looking to get some better gear and learn I felt I got a lot of genuine attention and was guided to the most appropriate products for me even though he could have easily sold me what I asked for which was much more expensive but ultimately would not have met my needs as well as what I bought and have been very happy with for two months now. After a few years of not riding bikes my wife and I decided to get back in to riding bikes, we went to several local shops (they all seemed decent) and ended up buying at Sunset ....they were very helpful in making sure we got the right bikes for our budget and correct sizes....they did not try to push the higher price stuff on us......They gave us a great deal on 2 bikes, helmets and lighting......they even delivered the bikes over 20 miles (one way) for us at no extra charge....the delivery offer was made after I had already paid for the bikes, so it was for sure just a very helpful gesture. We having been riding these bikes almost everyday and they are perfect. I would recommend Sunset as the place to buy your bikes.....when its time to upgrade we will be going back to Sunset! read more

Sunsetcyclery sells fun as well as bikes. I had been to three other bike shops and Sunsetcyclery were the most helpful, patient, and happy to answer any questions. When we had a problem with another bike shop not being able to put on a kick stand for my husbands bike, it took them no more than ten minunts to add a kickstand the other shop could not do. We both had a great experience and will do all our bike shopping with them. read more

Terrible experience. This summer I was shipping my bike to Providence, Rhode Island to begin a cross-country ride to San Francisco. I went to Sunset Cyclery to have new tires put on my bike and have it boxed up to be shipped. I had never shipped my bike before, so I wanted to make sure that it got to it's destination in great condition. They told me that the bike would be boxed up and ready to go in two days. They called me shortly before I was supposed to pick up the bike to let me know that it would be a few more days. After five days total, I came to pick up the bike and was presented with a total that was $50 over the original quote. Fortunately, they gave me the original price because I presented the slip I was originally given, but they weren't happy about it. Because it was longer than I had arranged, I had to pay over $400 in shipping to overnight my bike to Rhode Island as opposed to the $90 in shipping it would have costed had it been on time. When I arrived in Rhode Island and opened the bike box, the weight of the frame was solely on the derailleur, so it was bent so badly I couldn't get the chain back on. (I had to find a bike shop in Rhode Island with my bike's derailleur and rush it in to be put on that evening) I called Sunset back to explain the situation, and ask if they could help with the cost of the damage- since I needed to begin my bike trip the next day. They told me that UPS should have checked the packing job, and that there was nothing they could do. They didn't apologize for the inconvenience, and blamed the packaging company for not opening and rearranging the bike. Overall, I was not satisfied with the customer service, and the overt lack of accountability the shop was willing to take for a series of oversights on their part. read more

Outstanding service. Took my bike in there for service three separate times in the last year and they went above and beyond every time. Did things they didn't have to do for free, threw in this and that, along with giving above-and-beyond type of advice. Add that to the fact they are a no b.s., no pushy salesmen, and no bike snobbery kind of place (all of which are extremely rare qualities in a St. Louis bike shop) and you've got a no brainer place to take your two wheeled buddy, or shop for a new one. read more

I wanted to ride a bike again and missed having one. So, after thought i had found one at Target *shudders* and the drama they caused which made me NOT get the bike there. I looked on line and found this absolutely wonderful bike shop :) Met and spoke with Tim about getting a bike. I just bought a GT Hybrid from the Chesterfield shop, but of course, the bike was not in stock and I was told they'd have to order it. The guy told me it'd be one week before it was available to ride ... well guess what? That week has come and gone, I still don't have my bike, and they have all my money. The bike is now due in five more calendar days. We'll see if he (Eric) can keep his word. Yes, they do lie (Angery Dad.), and Gregory P., their follow-up is terrible. I had to call them to get this great news. I was even told by Eric, "it's up to God and UPS now" for when my bike would get there. What a crock of shit line?!! Who tells their customers that crap? I should have known this place was shady when I walked in there one day looking for bikes and the only guy in there had his pants down so low he was showing off his butt crack. The owner was rude to my mom and son when I asked them to drop some bicycles off for me. There was some confusion and the owner followed them outside and yelled at them. When I called to talk to the owner he talked over me and was a smart ass and then hung up on me. He also indicated that my bicycles would take a lot of time to fix and he didn't feel like doing it. When I went to pick up my bikes I walked out of the store and he followed me and I told him to go back into the store and to leave me alone. He did not go back into the store. There was no apology for what he did to my mom and my son and he denied hanging the phone up on me and he denied yelling at my mom and my son. He lied. This was the most horrible experience. It was also horrible for my mom and my son, who has anxiety. read more

I rarely ever post a review for anything, even though I heavily rely on them. Sunset is most definitely worth my time, they are some of the kindest, genuine, most helpful individuals, I have ever encountered in retail. Logan went above and beyond for me and my bike. From the tuning to the equipment and accessories, I can't say enough about this guy. There are a number of EXCELLENT, independent, bike shops in the area, and Sunset is definitely in that mix. Prices on the parts that I purchased were within a dollar or two of Amazon and some other online retailers I checked, they never up sold me on anything, simply asked what I was looking for and delineated between "want" and "need". Kind, helpful, and well educated in all things cycling. I'm happy to spend my money here. Will be back to purchase a bike for girlfriend. read more

I was just in town for a few days so I figured I'd stop by while I was killing some time. The shops bike selection is descent, but I wasn't too fond of the customer service, one employee in particular. I was planning on buying a couple of Park Tools while I was in, but the guy's attitude towards me and my questions turned me off. I think I'll wait until I get back home and give my regular shop the business. However, there was one younger guy who worked there that was very personable to all of the customers that walked in. He's the reason that I'm giving the shop a 2 star rating instead of a 1. To the younger employee: keep up the good, personable attitude. It will take you far in life. read more

I used to be a fan of this shop until they lied to me. I went in looking for a bike for my daughter, they helped size her and suggested a Specialized Hotrock extra small frame. However they did not have one in stock and would have to order one in, they took my name and number and told me they would call me when it arrived. The staff was difficult to deal with, they made me so mad on that day I should have left the shop but I stayed trying to buy a bike for my daughter. A few weeks later I was in the area and stopped by to inquire when the bike might arrive. It was then I was informed they did not place the order because I did not put money down on the bike, but they NEVER asked for a deposit. I was informed that they this is a popular bike and they would be able to sell it even if I did not purchase the bike-a win win. Then they told me they could no longer order the bike it is now back ordered/out of stock. A FAILURE TO COMMUNICATE with their customers. What would a simple phone call have done-avoided this Angery Dad from posting this review! read more
