I called around and did my from the bottom up/ comparisons, questions...etc. Jay came out to us and gave us a free estimate. The compay is local and he also encouraged us to stop in and see how they make the shutters, paint them, etc...which I did!! There are so many options with shutters, but Jay gave us a thorough but quick education about size, types etc. They didn't try to oversell us as we still have two rooms to think about what to do with...kitchen and master. Jay gave us some ideas but without pressure to order all now. We'll be here, he said.. .The don't subcontract. Their installers were professional and didn't even really disturb us while putting them in. Their prices were competitive and we thought a huge bonus that they were a local company. We were right. I had a disappointing experience with Garrett from Drapery Affair and Floor Store…read more There was first confusion about the appointment date. I had September 16 at 9:30 a.m. in my calendar, but when he did not arrive, I was told the appointment was actually scheduled for the 17th. When Garrett arrived, I asked if he would remove his shoes before walking through my home. He told me that, based on company rules and OSHA requirements, he had to keep them on because they are general contractors. I later verified that OSHA did not require that under the circumstances. I was so surprised by the response that I did not think to offer the disposable shoe covers I had available. If shoes must remain on, I would expect someone routinely entering customers' homes to carry booties. Before the appointment, I had already explained that I was specifically interested in top-down/bottom-up cellular shades, with insulation, light control, privacy, and ease of use being priorities. Despite that, a fair amount of time was spent discussing other window-covering options. There were also several operating mechanisms. Although Garrett described them, I did not feel they were demonstrated particularly clearly, and I repeatedly had to ask to see the options again. I was then expected to choose both the mechanism and the color before an accurate quote could be prepared, which felt like a lot to decide during one appointment for a whole-house project. When it was time to measure, Garrett suggested that I choose colors while he moved through the house and ADU measuring. I was not comfortable having someone I had just met walking through my home and property unaccompanied, so I went with him. Once the measuring was finished and I could focus on the samples, Garrett provided very little assistance with the color-selection process. He did not offer to hold up the swatches, compare colors, or provide much guidance, so I had to ask someone who was already working at my house to help me. While that person held the samples against the wall and I stood back to evaluate them, Garrett remained nearby on his phone and appeared disinterested and disengaged from the process. At times, he also stood uncomfortably close, which made the experience feel awkward rather than helpful. The person helping me was also present for portions of the appointment and observed some of these interactions. My overall impression was that Garrett had product knowledge, but I did not experience him as especially engaged or attentive in the consultative part of the appointment. I did not feel particularly guided through what was a fairly significant purchase. Garrett also mentioned that the business was started by his grandfather and is now run by his father and uncle. Normally, I would contact a company directly before posting a review, but given that family relationship, I did not feel that my concerns would necessarily carry much weight internally. I ultimately decided not to move forward with Drapery Affair and Floor Store and chose another company.

I was lucky enough to find Abel, he was very knowledgeable on the phone, so I set up an appointment with him. He met me today at my house in Ventura and Replaced my screen on my backyard slider door. I was thinking about replacing the front entry screen door. When Abel suggested that he can update my old door and save me about $500. He was kind enough to take the door off and take out some of the old metal & plastic and some glass parts that dated the door. He cleaned it readjusted & rescreened the door with a high quality screen. It worked like new again. My décor is very contemporary, my backyard is beautiful but the sun is brutal. I have had MANY drapery companies come out and they all recommended drapes on rods. Obviously this defeats my desire to see the outside. I looked on Yelp under "shades and blinds" and thought I'd give E.S.C. Draperies call. I'm so glad I did as they completely understood what I was looking for. Vinnie came over and the first thing he suggested was sunshade panels and they are the perfect solution! They are great looking and do everything I want. They are stream line, block the strong sun yet I can still see through them when they are closed. The material is a mesh like fabric and it is white like my walls which make them almost disappear when they are pulled back. Vinnie made everything easy for me and installed them so quickly. He definitely knows his business and was fun to work with. I have other windows in my house that we will be discussing and I look forward to doing business with him again.
