Sigh. If Chase on the Lake was a stone's throw away from my unruly Silicon Valley home, I'd be here…read moreand I'd be learning how to jet ski just for that. This hotel is part of a historic landmark in Walker, Minnesota. When you are visiting and folks ask you where you are staying and you mention, "Chase on The Lake" , their response is always positive - like "wow, that's a really great place!". I never got any, "Wow, wait until you're awake in your room at 3 AM." or anything of that sort. Situated on along Leech Lake and in the middle of downtown Walker, it's very easy to come down and take a walk around the area. I stayed in a room right above the restaurant on the first floor, with a lake view (every hour is a different "wow" as the sun makes its way around the lake). It's rather convenient staying in that room because one can always check out the restaurant deck by looking out of the window (in case it may be crowded). You can walk down the stairs from there to the restaurant / deck. Just be aware of their hours as the door at the end of the stairwell will be locked when the restaurant is closed. There is always another way to the deck and that is through walking out and by the side of the Copper Spa building (road leads to the dock too), which is still a part of the hotel. Parking in front of the hotel is ample but there were weekdays where it seemed like there were a lot of cars - must be because it was in the summer and people just love the lake. Going back to the spa - they aren't open daily. There is a pamphlet by the front desk for the spa. I made the mistake of assuming they're open daily on the week and missed out on a potentially soothing deep-tissue massage (or pedicure!). There is a little pool where kiddie birthday parties are often held. Speaking of front desk, they're always very cordial EXCEPT for this young man during this one evening who looked like he couldn't care any less about guests coming in or out - I figured he may be new or just tired of life (at 18 LOL). My room was clean, well-equipped with the basics like a hair dryer, microwave, a fridge and bathroom toiletries . The housekeeping does not come in on a daily basis. They're on-demand. You take your bag of trash and leave it outside your door and the housekeeper will pick it up in the morning. The shower water is warm enough and just right. Despite being a very old hotel, my room did not have any of that old and musty "odor" , not even the hallways nor the stairwell. The TV, however, was pretty complicated, standard and nothing like the Marriott, etc. where the TV was smart, HD and easy to navigate. It wasn't a very big deal though, but it's always a plus if the TV was HD and smart nowadays. I must say, this review is a nice suggestion for a bedtime read at the Chase on the Lake, because at this point, I'm so sure you'd have snored off. I hope the pictures entice you though!

We really liked this place and would not hesitate to book here again…read more Pros: Nice quiet location with a super-friendly and helpful staff. Breakfasts were good and the place was really quiet at night. It also has a really nice, good-sized indoor pool. It's located just on the outskirts of the town so there's plenty of shopping and lake access in a very short walking/driving distance. Best of all, loons in the lake! Cons: The rooms, or at least the one we had, are a bit dated. Everything certainly looked clean, but definitely a bit worn down. One special note, for those getting the 'economy' room (307?); the bathroom needs some rework. The shower could fit 4 people easily, but the toilet is unbelievably low and is jammed into a corner, making the 'sit down' experience a bit of an adventure. I'm 5' 8" and 225 lbs., and it was definitely an 'issue.' If you're bigger than me, avoid this room until they redo the bathroom. Definitely not enough to take a star off, but something you and they should be aware of.

The hotel looks nice on the outside and the accommodations seemed clean and orderly. But, there was no ice in the ice maker and no hot water when we went to take a shower. Breakfast consisted of a paper bag filled with 3 sausages and a sandwich made of a muffin egg sausage and cheese that we microwaved in the Room. It was pretty tasty. All in all, I just couldn't bring myself to give this place even 3 stars. I also had to pay an extra $10 pet deposit bringing up the total amount I spent to $107 Which I feel was too much for a hotel that doesn't really supplied the things that are necessary. Won't be staying here again thank goodness.

We just got back from Iowana! We loved it…read more The pluses: Brad and his Dad were welcoming hosts. Cabins were roomy and well stocked. Dogs are welcome in cabins 1-4. Kayaks, Paddleboats and Canoes are available for free use. The resort is located in the Chippewa National Forest on an undeveloped lake. Beautiful. The lodge is old school, replete with Ms. Pac-man and a host of other video games, pool table etc. Activities are family friendly The Minuses: The nights can be cold and there is no heat. Protip: they provide linens but you should bring extra. Overall, it was a great value and a lot of fun for our family. We enjoyed the cabin, the resort on whole, took full advantage of the kayaking and paddle boating. The air was sweet and the night sky simply amazing. The other reviewer was right - this isn't the 4 Seasons - if you are looking for a spa experience - I suggest somewhere that doesn't advertise "welcome fishermen!." However, if you are looking for a place to take your family that is fun, relaxing and welcoming - you've found it.

Our catch included Perch, Rock Bass and Northern Pike. A few of them were in the 20' to 24" range - real nice fish. The cabins at the resort are clean, roomy and well stocked with kitchen utensils and such. We were fortunate to get one of the themed cabins, which was cool. The ice fishing houses that are available for rent at the resort are big enough to accommodate groups of 4 to 8, and Brad, who runs the resort does a great job of ensuring that they are positioned in prime locations, resulting in high catch counts. After a full day of fishing, we would bring our catch back to the fish cleaning shed where Mike cleaned and filleted fish like a surgeon for a very reasonable fee. All in all, it was a great experience at a great resort with an amazing host, and I am already planning my next visit to the Iowana Beach Resort.

And her stay got extended for another 2 weeks. Entire booking was done by an agent through the employer. This morning she went to reactivate the keys for the next 2 weeks. The lady at the front desk was very rude & unprofessional towards my wife and mentioned that my wife was not supposed to have complimentary breakfast. It was their fault because it was given to her when she checked in. Angie's behavior was as if my wife intentionally went for this lavish breakfast (believe me it's not). It was not her fault. It was their fault. Instead of apologizing for the mistake she gave attitude towards my wife. This is not acceptable. People in Bemidji are extremely nice towards foreigners. This is not a 4 star property, rather, the rating is based on expectations for this level…read moreaccommodation. Weird smell throughout. Hubs said it smells like cheap building materials. I'd say it was just odd, tho not so bad that we weren't nose blind to it shortly after arriving & didn't notice it while in the room. King room with plenty of space, outlets, lighting, temperature control & in-room amenities. The pad on the bed wasn't pulled tight or it wasn't sized correctly. I didn't sleep well because I could feel the lumps and ripples (princess & the pea moment). If I'd noticed BEFORE getting in bed, I'd have fixed it. I was flat-out beat tho & took the lazy way out. We, again, hit up breakfast. They had the standard spread of waffle maker, eggs (scrambled, omelet-like & boiled), sausage, potatoes & we greatly appreciated the seasonings & sauces available to give that same ole same ole a bit of pop. Parking was easy & we didn't use anything here besides the room & breakfast. We arrived late & left early the next morning, to officially start our tour. Note: We were 3rd of 4 in line to check in. The gal whipped out waters for #1, thanked him for being a Diamond member, told him what his points/bonus points were, explained ALL the hotel info - pool, gym, breakfast, check-out. # 2 gets up to the desk & the gal asks if they've stayed before, she replies not here but a lot of best westerns, giggle & gives hotel some info / #2 asks if there's Diamond Elite parking spaces (casual for hey, no mention of my loyalty, perhaps?) - response was "no, we're not that fancy" - no water given. We get up & the gal says, "did you catch all that or do you want it repeated?" We say we're good & she says most important thing is breakfast is at 6a - no waters for us. #4, took her back to interaction style of #1. It could be inconsistent or efficient, depending on how you look at it. (Had we asked for water, they no doubt would have given it. We had our own & it was perfectly visible at check-in.) Hubs is Diamond Elite. We booked direct with Best Western & didn't use points.
