This review is for an issue my wife had a with the front desk lady - Angie. My wife was staying at the hotel for last 3 weeks or so for work assignments. And her stay got extended for another 2 weeks. Entire booking was done by an agent through the employer. This morning she went to reactivate the keys for the next 2 weeks. The lady at the front desk was very rude & unprofessional towards my wife and mentioned that my wife was not supposed to have complimentary breakfast. It was their fault because it was given to her when she checked in. Angie's behavior was as if my wife intentionally went for this lavish breakfast (believe me it's not). It was not her fault. It was their fault. Instead of apologizing for the mistake she gave attitude towards my wife. This is not acceptable. People in Bemidji are extremely nice towards foreigners. But this incident just threw us off. Most of the staff were very nice towards my wife. Next guest please make sure to check the name tag of this unprofessional employee at this hotel. If she doesn't know how to handle customers in a polite professional way, then she should find another profession which doesn't include customer service. Not many hotels in Bemidji. However this is quite frankly one of the nicest hotels I've been to in a while in a very small town. Their pool area is like something out of a lodge at Disneyland. Crazy amount of amenities. A decent gym. Amazing breakfast bar. Incredible staff. You can walk directly from the lobby into the adjacent restaurant if you are craving food or libation. It has a lakefront view that is absolutely stunning. You can walk along the beach. Be careful if you drop a piece of food as the ducks and geese will converge upon you without mercy LOL. The rooms are more than adequate, clean and the climate control was wonderful for the cold time of year. read more

The most fabulous hotel in rural Minnesota. Hands down, this was one of the best hotels I've ever stayed at. Wanna be at the beach, but hate the heat? DoubleTree in Bemodji's got it. Do you want to shower in a bathroom that looks like it's straight out of HGTV? DoubleTree in Bemodji's got it. Do you like to feel like a classy bitch while eating a delicious complimentary breakfast that includes table service. DoubleTree in Bemodji's got that too. How about an abfab gym to work on your fitness? You know what I'm going to say. Would you like to feel like a celebrity when you roll up to the front desk. Done, just check into this DoubleTree. How about dining beach side without the wind and blowing sand in your food/eyes: ruining your fabulous 'do? Consider it done. Bonus question: warm cookies? Warm, melty, in your mouth at check in. Nice hotel, kept clean, a beautiful venue in the lake. If you don't know who Paul Bunyan is, aren't from the upper Midwest, brace yourself for the wind and cold. Summer is two weeks in late July early August, you might be able to enjoy the beach at this hotel then. Fall is gorgeous in the North woods, it may be our best season. If you get the breakfast for free, (Diamond members) try the homemade granola and yogurt. If you have to pay the 11.00...go elsewhere! Hilton has a horrible website and app. The desk clerk here even complained about her computer and how often it's down. It was down when i checked out. Hilton regularly dumps my profile, it's so annoying. I've called them many times about it...Although they never dump my credit card number. Funny huh? Seems like they should be more functional... Another complaint I have is they never seem to have a room ready on time. I think housekeeping shows up for work at noon and then goes to lunch? Lastly, the water pressure in the shower was piddly. This much for a nice hotel and not enough water pressure to rinse your hair? Disappointing... read more

We just stayed here last Saturday and it was gorgeous. The weather couldn't have been perfect and then it rained on the last day. We checked in early and got a 2 Queen Lake Balcony View. This was even better than DoubleTree Racine Harbourwalk since there was a balcony with 2 chairs and table. We enjoyed the sunset and sunrise together on the balcony. Also, we got a voucher for free breakfast the next day. We found out that this hotel was connected to the Hampton Inn by going through the Green Mill. There are also bicycles to rent but we ended up just hiking at Lake Bemidji State Park and then visiting Paul Bunyan and Blue Ox. Overall, we couldn't have asked for anything more since it was wonderful to also enjoy the sauna AND steam rooms near the indoor pool. This was a first to me but my wife had experienced it before. We were able to have the steam room at full blast on demand as well as sauna too. The pool was crowded in the afternoon so we just enjoyed the steam and sauna. The next morning, I woke up early to enjoy the pool by myself to do laps around. Overall, you will not be disappointed and we lucked out to also time it right with the Knights of Columbus Walleye Fishing competition. read more

Gorgeous hotel on Lake Bemidji! Large rooms with very contemporary design. I was here for work but would stay again for pleasure. This is a beautiful property. My only complaint would be the sheets. They were not very high quality - very scratchy on the skin. Other than that, it's a great place. I highly recommend! read more

Very disappointed. Stayed here with my 3 children over the New Year wknd for a youth hockey tournament. Half of the team's family were honored complimentary breakfast wristbands. At $11 an adult $6 for children a day, that's $39 value of breakfast vouchers. Single mom and every dollar counts. It was so upsetting to find out that some were honored, some weren't. On a different note, the staff was nice, and rooms were clean. read more

Great location, amazing view, nice rooms, and horrible service. The hotel is right on the beach just minutes away from the Sanford Center and downtown shopping. The rooms are spacious and quiet, and overall it's a nice hotel. But it's not one I'll be going back to. Leaving the hotel my girlfriend shared that she felt like we weren't good enough for their standards, at least that's how she felt they treated us. This is an experience I've never had at a DoubleTree- not when I first started staying with Hilton, and definitely not since attaining Diamond status. It started by first asking for a complimentary upgrade, to which I was told they had no other rooms. The only problem is that I had just checked online and when I asked her about that she said she could upgrade me but I'd probably like the other room better. After pressing we were given the complimentary Diamond upgrade to a suite instead of a double queen (with an advertised room rate difference of $10). Then I had the audacity to ask for a late check out. I was told late checkout (1pm instead of noon) was available for a $70 fee - a hotel policy that applied "even for Diamond members." She stressed that every DoubleTree hotel operates differently - and when I pressed that I primarily stay at DoubleTrees and they all offered complimentary 1pm checkouts she brushed it off as "goofy." Had late checkout not been available, this wouldn't have even been an issue. But to charge nearly half the room's rate when it is clearly an included Hilton Honors benefit was frustrating. Especially since it meant scrambling to checkout after my last meeting ended. The only saving grace that night was the room, which again was nice. The next morning we headed down to breakfast. After 5-10 minutes we gave up as no one was in sight and seated ourselves. We sat for 40 minutes watching the hotel staff check on other patrons before finally coming over to see us to clear our plates out of the way. After 40 minutes of them looking at us, and ignoring us - I was able to get a glass of water to go with a mediocre breakfast (wasn't bad, wasn't anything special). All in all, what should have been a nice stay was ruined by atrocious service. Instead of having a nice time, my girlfriend left wondering why we were treated so differently here than at other Hiltons. And I left cancelling our next reservation there. Again, great location, amazing view, and nice rooms - but do yourself a favor and book the Hampton Inn right next door. Same great location, right on the beach, and nice rooms. Plus they'll add a friendly face and great service. Or as my girlfriend said after checking in, it was night and day - and at least there we felt like we were staying at a Hilton property (and saving money doing so). read more

I've stayed at several hotels in the area over the years to visit family and this, finally, is by far the best. Traveling with children, we made good use of the never busy pool, I couldnt believe they also had a hot tub, steam room and sauna! The place is set on beautiful Lake Bemidji, well worth the price of a lakefront balcony room. The rooms are clean and pretty classy, the bathrooms are quite spacious with a nice tub and shower pressure in our room was just fine. We took full advantage of the onsite restaurant and breakfast buffet, breakfast items were ok but not worth the $11 so skip this if you can help it. The staff was friendly and helpful, even called to let me know I left my laptop charger behind and offered to FedEx it. Would definitely return for future visits! read more

You're better off staying at the Hampton Inn, right next door. The staff there is friendly and helpful, whereas the staff -- especially the GM, Kayla -- at the DoubleTree are not. Minor issues become major personality conflicts with her, escalated by her within seconds. Passive aggressive and hostile, she's simply not built for customer service, and to represent the Hilton brand. In fact, she seems to have a screw loose. Her greeting to me when I asked to speak with her about replacing a non-functioning television was, "You have one minute." No kidding. That's how she runs the place. The clients are the problem. She's enabled to behave badly by Complaint Resolution system that cycles your concerns, and requests to speak to her regional manager, right back to her desk, where they die. When I booked, I wondered why the Hampton Inn was full and the (seemingly much nicer) DoubleTree wasn't. Now I know. If you book at the DoubleTree, just hope that there are no issues that require you to seek help from Kayla. It's pretty frightening that DoubleTree hasn't put her through some kind of training/counseling. By the way, the positive reviews written about the hotel were written by staff members. read more

Made a last minute reservation at the DoubleTree Hotel in Bemidji to attend a wedding in town. Traveled there with my husband and three kids. Didn't think too much of the place when I booked it; I've stayed at plenty of chain hotels before. Didn't think this experience would be any different. But dang, I was pleasantly surprised! We were welcomed with some delicious warm chocolate chip cookies upon check-in. The staff was friendly (and not just a fake, annoying friendly, but genuinely friendly) our entire stay-- that's all of them-- front desk, housekeeping, the girl who rang up our breakfast, the guy cooking the breakfast (who told us to try the scrambled eggs with chorizo-- yum), even the guy restocking the towels by the pool. The hotel is new, so the rooms are very nice. Clean, crisp, non-smelly (that's VERY important), white sheets on the two queen beds. Plenty of room for the baby's pack n play bassinet, a balcony with a view of Lake Bemidji, an oversized bathroom with double sinks and a decent size tub. Average shampoo, conditioner, soap, but they did also have mouthwash, shower cap and the little box with the cotton balls and q-tips. The pool was average-- nothing to write home about, but there was also a small hot tub, sauna and steam room. Breakfast isn't included in the nightly rate and costs $11 for adults and $6 for children. My two dislikes about this place: 1) They picked the most slippery tile to install around the pool. I watched almost every kid slip and fall. 2) They don't have enough food out at breakfast. I wouldn't mind if it was a free breakfast, but we paid extra for it and almost every hot food serving tray was empty and there was barely any juice left in the containers and one sad, lonely pastry sitting in the tray. There was an hour and a half left of breakfast service, so I felt bad for anyone who came even later. Okay, so those were my gripes. Mid-stay, I decided to buy a tin of the cookies to give to a friend. I've never bought anything from a hotel lobby as a gift before, so you can see how serious I am about these cookies. At check out, the guy who sold me the cookie tin must have remembered, because he asked if I'd like cookies for the road. Maybe he asks everyone this, but I happily accepted. This hotel is definitely more of a business hotel, but it was a great stay for our family. read more
