I've been to this resort several times and it's a fun place to be! Great cabins. Great access to Winnie. Always a fun getaway.

The fishing is great and so is the company! I went as a guest and left as family!

We just got back from Iowana! We loved it…read more The pluses: Brad and his Dad were welcoming hosts. Cabins were roomy and well stocked. Dogs are welcome in cabins 1-4. Kayaks, Paddleboats and Canoes are available for free use. The resort is located in the Chippewa National Forest on an undeveloped lake. Beautiful. The lodge is old school, replete with Ms. Pac-man and a host of other video games, pool table etc. Activities are family friendly The Minuses: The nights can be cold and there is no heat. Protip: they provide linens but you should bring extra. Overall, it was a great value and a lot of fun for our family. We enjoyed the cabin, the resort on whole, took full advantage of the kayaking and paddle boating. The air was sweet and the night sky simply amazing. The other reviewer was right - this isn't the 4 Seasons - if you are looking for a spa experience - I suggest somewhere that doesn't advertise "welcome fishermen!." However, if you are looking for a place to take your family that is fun, relaxing and welcoming - you've found it.

I just returned to So Cal from an ice fishing outing at Iowana Beach Resort. Our entire group had…read morea great time and caught a lot of fish. Our catch included Perch, Rock Bass and Northern Pike. A few of them were in the 20' to 24" range - real nice fish. The cabins at the resort are clean, roomy and well stocked with kitchen utensils and such. We were fortunate to get one of the themed cabins, which was cool. The ice fishing houses that are available for rent at the resort are big enough to accommodate groups of 4 to 8, and Brad, who runs the resort does a great job of ensuring that they are positioned in prime locations, resulting in high catch counts. After a full day of fishing, we would bring our catch back to the fish cleaning shed where Mike cleaned and filleted fish like a surgeon for a very reasonable fee. All in all, it was a great experience at a great resort with an amazing host, and I am already planning my next visit to the Iowana Beach Resort.

Pines Resort and Campground - 17.75" walleye caught in our fish house in about 18' water and on top of 16" of ice.

Love this resort! We've been coming here for three years now (summer to tent/fish, winter for ice…read morefishing), and we've only had great experiences. Chad and crew are all great, booking for our tent and buying ice road passes in person in the winter are very smooth processes. They have a clean hot shower available year round (only one since their cabins have bathrooms), and washer/dryer. The food at the bar is fantastic, we always get the jalapeño raspberry wings and a split basket of deep fried cauliflower and green beans. Safety is their priority so I know my truck won't be taking a swim in the winter on the ice road. In the summer their dock hands are incredibly helpful and make a day go fishing so much easier (don't forget to tip the kids, they are great workers!). Last, but absolutely not least, they have the best rolled ice cream I've ever had!! The flavors range from chocolatey goodness to gooey peanut butter, but also cover s'mores and fruit flavors as well. Overall I'd 10/10 recommend The Pines for winter and summer fishing!

Sigh. If Chase on the Lake was a stone's throw away from my unruly Silicon Valley home, I'd be here…read moreand I'd be learning how to jet ski just for that. This hotel is part of a historic landmark in Walker, Minnesota. When you are visiting and folks ask you where you are staying and you mention, "Chase on The Lake" , their response is always positive - like "wow, that's a really great place!". I never got any, "Wow, wait until you're awake in your room at 3 AM." or anything of that sort. Situated on along Leech Lake and in the middle of downtown Walker, it's very easy to come down and take a walk around the area. I stayed in a room right above the restaurant on the first floor, with a lake view (every hour is a different "wow" as the sun makes its way around the lake). It's rather convenient staying in that room because one can always check out the restaurant deck by looking out of the window (in case it may be crowded). You can walk down the stairs from there to the restaurant / deck. Just be aware of their hours as the door at the end of the stairwell will be locked when the restaurant is closed. There is always another way to the deck and that is through walking out and by the side of the Copper Spa building (road leads to the dock too), which is still a part of the hotel. Parking in front of the hotel is ample but there were weekdays where it seemed like there were a lot of cars - must be because it was in the summer and people just love the lake. Going back to the spa - they aren't open daily. There is a pamphlet by the front desk for the spa. I made the mistake of assuming they're open daily on the week and missed out on a potentially soothing deep-tissue massage (or pedicure!). There is a little pool where kiddie birthday parties are often held. Speaking of front desk, they're always very cordial EXCEPT for this young man during this one evening who looked like he couldn't care any less about guests coming in or out - I figured he may be new or just tired of life (at 18 LOL). My room was clean, well-equipped with the basics like a hair dryer, microwave, a fridge and bathroom toiletries . The housekeeping does not come in on a daily basis. They're on-demand. You take your bag of trash and leave it outside your door and the housekeeper will pick it up in the morning. The shower water is warm enough and just right. Despite being a very old hotel, my room did not have any of that old and musty "odor" , not even the hallways nor the stairwell. The TV, however, was pretty complicated, standard and nothing like the Marriott, etc. where the TV was smart, HD and easy to navigate. It wasn't a very big deal though, but it's always a plus if the TV was HD and smart nowadays. I must say, this review is a nice suggestion for a bedtime read at the Chase on the Lake, because at this point, I'm so sure you'd have snored off. I hope the pictures entice you though!
