A large game room with air hockey and ping pong along with arcade games and a loft space to gather above it. We stay in the cabins 2-5 that are close to the beach and playground. Fun activities for the kids - especially this year! We did the tie-dye as we do every year, but also created a stepping stone with the kids and sign painting for adults. Craig & Angie have managed the resort for a few years and are making small/positive changes each year. Recently added was bags sets and a 9 square court (I guess it's cross between volleyball and 4 square). These are in addition to the volleyball/basketball/horseshoe and fire pit. We booked our vacation in March and was looking forward to being on the lake once the dreaded Arizona summer hit. We booked cabin #3 which had two bedrooms and one bath with a wonderful view of the lake, a nice sized deck, and a fire pit. All the kitchen appliances were available including a dishwasher! The basic cookware and dishes were also included. It was the perfect size for our family of five. It was so clean and tidy upon check in and it even smelled nice and not musty (been to other cabins that had this problem). We unpacked our things and had enough space for everything, groceries included. The amenities on the lake were so fantastic! The kids enjoyed the playground which included swings, seesaw, slides, and a sandbox. They even had swings right on the sand so you could jump off into the water. We also took advantage of the peddle boats, canoe, paddle boards, and key log. They were all included with our reservations and didn't have to pay extra. But be sure to bring quarters for the arcade room. You're gonna need it! Oh and if you plan on doing laundry they do have washers and dryers that take quarters. My babies (ages 9, 6, & 2) participated in the kids fishing contest and they were so thrilled. Although I think they loved playing with the worms more than the fish. On Wednesday they held a ceremony and they each received an award for their catch of the day with my little one getting the "smallest fish caught" award which he held up proudly. There are also towns close by to grab a bite to eat which we did twice during the week. My hubby even got to play golf since there was a course nearby. The owners were wonderful and very down to earth. They greeted us at check in and made us feel welcomed. I would always see them chatting up with other visitors as if they were life long friends. Many of the visitors are return customers and make yearly trips to the lake. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and created cherished family memories. We absolutely loved our stay here at Thunder Lake Lodge! We will be back! Thank you Craig & Jaime!

Shady, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable…read more I prepaid for a three-day stay at the Wigwam Motel in Emily but decided to leave after two days. I checked out at approximately 8:00 in the morning and asked to be refunded for the unused third day. They refused to refund me. I called repeatedly trying to resolve the situation. After two or three phone calls with the manager, I was told they did not have the ability to issue my refund and that someone else would need to handle it. They promised to contact that person and call me back. Instead, they eventually stopped returning my calls altogether. I made several reasonable attempts to resolve this directly with management, but all I received were excuses, changing explanations, and the runaround. Refusing to address the unused prepaid night was bad enough, but promising to call me back and then ignoring my calls made the entire situation feel extremely shady and dishonest. This was one of the most unprofessional motel experiences I have ever had. There was no accountability, no effort to resolve the problem, and no basic respect shown to me as a paying guest. I would strongly advise anyone considering this motel to stay somewhere else.

Unfortunately I don't own a beautiful cabin with which to entertain them, so we had to rely on finding a local resort. My wife and I spent over two hours researching and calling resorts around northern Minnesota. Unfortunately, it seems that most of the mom and pop establishments have been purchased by larger investment groups and hospitality chains that have turned them into monstrous money-making machines. Honestly, when I go "up nort" I don't need or want day spas, tennis courts, and luxury cruises. Nor do I want to pay $450 a night for a room that faces the highway, as one resort offered. Not to mention the one-week minimum stay that most require during the summer months. No, I prefer a quiet establishment on a smaller lake where I can simply connect with the natural surroundings. We were so happy to have found Edgewild, a small, more affordable ($210/night when we went), family-owned resort tucked into the forest on the edge of West Fox Lake. The cabin was rustic, but sufficient. The pontoon boat we rented was great for cruising and fishing. I loved being able to use free canoes whenever we wanted. And Fox Lake is perfect because it isn't big enough to support huge crowds of people. My only two (very small) suggestions to Pete and Bonnie, the extremely kind owners of Edgewild, are to increase to number of fire pits available to guests, and to upgrade the bedding situation. To explain, we would have preferred to have had our own bonfire one of the nights, and the comforters on our beds smelled a bit musty. Other than that, it was absolutely perfect.

The cabins have been updated but still have the charm that a cabin built decades ago should have. We usually dock a boat for fishing but will rent a pontoon for a day in the lake. We've also golfed and biked nearby during our stay. The fishing is pretty solid on West Fox Lake. We can always find panfish, bass and smaller pike. Walleye though can be tricky but we've actually caught a couple right off the dock early in the year. The new owners are nice people who have done anything to help us make the most of our visits. That meant even finding me an axe to chop wood during our last stay - a great way to relieve stress I might add. Overall, I would recommend Edgewild and will definitely be returning.
