This is our first visit to Mille Lacs and after glancing through options the ratings on Yelp helped…read moreour decision. It's important to know a lot of the options with high rankings may not reflect the kind of lodging you desire so do your homework. We wanted cabin style lakeside housing that was simple yet provided options.... Appeldoorn's delivered. We rented cabin 1 which is 300 feet from the water. They have a sandy beach with two docks and water toys for kids including kayaks, paddle boats, a blob and in water slide. Throw in a sandy beach that is sifted daily you have a great place to enjoy this massive lakes beauty. The front desk is extremely helpful and they have a lot of convenience store items available for reasonable price. They also arrange fishing chartered and have rental equipment weather permitting. We also dined at the resort for breakfast and dinner and were impressed with the quality and originality of the food. The dining options are closed Monday and Tuesday so you will need to explore the local area. They have four varieties of housing and they all seem pretty awesome, we are definitely planning to return!

OK WHAT AN UPGRADE!!!!…read more I was here a few years ago for a wedding, and was not impressed to say the least. But, things have changed for the better in a BIG way!! Very different. The current event coordinator, Mariah, knocks everything she does of of the ball park. I was here for another wedding, and I was in for a huge surprise. There were many improvements, too many to list! The new wedding area is perfectly located. A permanent Arbor is there for the couple to decorate as they wish, or not. The lakeside now has 2 docks, many aquatic amenities, and a great sandy beach. Even a lakeside bar! I could go on and on, but you need to see this place on Mille Lacs to really appreciate it. However here is my thoughts on some menu items there: CHEESEBURGER SLIDERS toasted bun, gooey cheese, fresh burger SHRIMP COCKTAIL: large fresh shrimp, not from a shrimp farm in Yuma AZ PECAN ENCRUSTED WALLEYE FINGERS: none better (it should be a law that every restaurant on Mille Lacs offers something like this) but try it here NEW LOOK NEW FOOD NEW VIBE

Don't waste your money or time! Very bad management at Sand…read morelake Resort MN - the office was closed the entire week we had booked, no air conditioning on a 98 degree day. I had to leave a message and when the management finally came he was rude, and asked if we had "messed with any buttons" then left before I could respond. They would not call to get the air fixed as it was Saturday. We had to wait until Monday eve for the air to be fixed (needed freon, you would think they would have checked this). They put a giant dock right where the beach used to be, boat engines 5 feet from the dock. I don't think that this is environmentally safe, but they don't seem to care. Very unprofessional, need customer service training! The beach was filthy, nothing put away at end of day. I won't be returning, my 86 year old mother almost died of heat stroke. We were "upgraded", his words, to a large cabin by the road where we could hear all the traffic, and not see the lake. We also had to move three times with no help from them, as I said - they could care less.

We rented a pontoon for the weekend from the resort. They advertised it as clean and well…read moremaintained with depth finders. The boat we received was not well maintained and was very dirty. They definitely have not spent time cleaning or maintaining. The canopy was strung together with random bolts, wire and string. It was not able to be taken down since it was broken so badly. I asked if the lights work, the attendant told me it was illegal to be on MN lakes after 8:15. This is no where near true as cabin cruisers anchor overnight and fisherman definitely go out at night! Basically an excuse to justify the poor condition of the boat. The radio and horn also did not work. The gates on the pontoon were all bungee strapped shut. Seats and carpet were filthy. So in all, it's your only choice on sand lake for boat rentals so I guess they do not have to try. The women who rented it could not even tell me about slot limits on the lake..... How could these two both be clueless on fishing and boating on a lake in which they do business! Disappointed!
