At first I was worried about leaving our Oliver home alone overnight, but after trying this service out it has been a useful and convenient option for us. We hired Ryan to take care of our 3 dogs for 8 days last month. This was our first experience with in home pet sitting. In the past, we always either had family watch our dogs or did camp boarding. Since this was our first time for in home pet sitting, we were a little nervous about having a stranger in our home and also our dogs being alone for so many hours in the day. Ryan was kind enough to come over before our trip to help us ease those fears. The visit went well and our dogs got acquainted with him and we felt comfortable with him in our home. During our vacation, Ryan also kept me updated via email/text so I knew our dogs were being well taken care of. Knowing they were being so well cared for kept us relax and we were able to enjoy our vacation that much more. The best part was when we came home from vacation, our dogs didn't even bark. Normally, whenever we come home they bark when they hear the front door open. However, the night we got back from vacation, we walked in and they were so relaxed and calm. I could tell they had a great time with Ryan. In addition, Ryan's rates are very reasonable and he is easy to communicate with (email, phone & text). BEWARE!! THIS BUSINESS IS SUPER UNPROFESSIONAL AND UNRELIABLE!!! I really wish I could give zero stars for this so called "business". Right from the get-go I should have known to look elsewhere. When I first called to set up a consultation the guy I spoke to (Ryan) was very distracted and pretty nonchalant about speaking to a possible future client. I decided to email him to set up and confirm a consultation appointment. After FIVE DAYS of no response, I followed up giving them a second chance before I looked elsewhere. I got a response and a consultation set, and I thought everything was good to go. Boy, was I wrong. Come consultation time, I'm looking at the clock and its been an hour since our consultation was supposed to start so I text Ryan and ask if we are still having our consultation. His response? "Oh shoot! Can we do it tomorrow? My bad!" I'm sorry, but I will NOT be entrusting someone to look after my pets who is so disrespectful of others' time and so unreliable. I'm a longtime lurker, first-time Yelp! poster. I've finally been driven to post because two very different service providers went above and beyond for me in the past year and deserve recognition. Ryan of Sunset Animal Care is one of those providers. Last summer my dog (Chopper) was battling an illness that we thought was partially brought on by anxiety, so when we had to leave town suddenly for a funeral, we elected to keep him at home rather than board him at an overnight facility. We found Ryan through Yelp and set up a schedule whereby Ryan would make regular visitations over the weekend while we were away. Unfortunately, in the first 24 hours we were away, Chopper started showing signs of stress colitis. Ryan called us regularly with updates and showed sincere concern for our dog. Unfortunately, given Chopper's state, the only answer was to have someone stay overnight with him to let him out frequently. We were clearly in a bind. Despite our last minute request, Ryan agreed to spend the night at our house to take care of Chopper until we returned. This was above and beyond the normal call of duty, and Ryan did this having only met us and Chopper on the Friday before we left town. While I think we scared Ryan off for good after that weekend, I will forever be grateful for his flexibility and care for Chopper when we were in desperate need. P.S. Chopper is now fine and fully recovered! read more

Ryan has been walking our dog, Monte, for over a year and we couldn't be happier with the service he provides. Upon first meeting Ryan at the complementary consultation he arranged at our home, it was obvious that he is very passionate about what he does. Our walking needs tend to change week-to-week and Ryan is always able to accommodate our fluctuating schedule. I love receiving the selfies he sends us of him with our dog while I am at work. I've been using Sunset's services for all my pet care needs for about 2.5 years now, since my dog was a puppy. Ryan has always been super accessible and reliable, coming to my aid quickly even from the very beginning - when I brought my puppy home spontaneously with nobody to watch her when I went to work 2 days later! He's been watching her ever since, including when I'm on vacation, even on short notice. Ryan walks a dog in my neighborhood regularly and I often see him when I am out with my two dogs. He is super friendly and knowledgeable and it has always been obvious to me that he cares a great deal for the dog in his care. One day when I ran out to do a quick errand, and my dog slipped out of our gate that had been left open. He went to the front of our home, saw Ryan and his dog, and ventured out into the street to greet them. Ryan realized that my dog was loose, took him into his care, called me immediately after reading Griffins tag and led him safely back into our house. I really hate to leave this review, but here goes: I have had a really terrible experience working with this petsitter. He has lost multiple sets of keys to my house, responds to booking requests at the last minute, and even once failed to show up for several days after I hired him to take care of my cat for a couple weeks back in May. Thank God my housemate was home and noticed he hadn't come around, or my cat would probably be dead (he has asthma and needs daily medication, in addition to, you know, food and water). Granted, he informed me after the fact of some personal circumstances which contributed to him forgetting to make those visits and eventually gave me a partial refund, but in general he was very bad about communicating all of this to me and I was left in a panic until I could finally get home. I would have left this at never hiring him again if he hadn't spent an hour today harassing me via text to leave him a positive review (and getting upset with me when I told him why I couldn't do that.) Personally, I would not recommend hiring this petsitter. read more

Ryan goes out of his way to make sure that my dog stays out of trouble, which is a big responsibility because my dog is a terrier that does not get along with some dogs that he meets. My husband and I were going away just before Thanksgiving and were looking for options for our cat Onyx. After doing some research on Yelp, we came across Sunset Animal Care. It had excellent reviews and we decided to try it out. After exchanging several emails with Ryan, he came to our house to meet Onyx and us. He was so sweet and nice and Onyx took to him right away. Ryan took notes of all the things we were telling him and asked a lot of questions (which was great). He took care of Onyx for 5 days and every time we sent him a text message to see how things were going, he quickly answered them. It was nice to know that someone caring was taking care of our cat in our own home and that he was not put on additional stress while we were away. When we got home, Onyx looked great, his litter was clean and Ryan even put all the food cans in the recycling bins outside!
