Ryan has continued to walk our dog Lola over the past couple years and we couldn't be happier. At this point he is like family and is part of Lola's weekly routine. She is always SO excited to see him, which says a lot because she doesn't warm up to people easily! He takes her on long walks with different routes around the neighborhood and sends us picture updates. He is very reliable and hasn't once missed a walk, and is very responsive to our changing schedule. I recommended him to my mom and would honestly recommend him to everyone I know. He's fantastic and we feel lucky to have found him! read more

Sunset Animal Care - Dog Walkers Near Me

I love Yelp for a lot of reasons. One of the main ones is that you can find people like Ryan, who are great, small business people who might not come to your attention otherwise. Ryan was absolutely wonderful with our one-year-old Dutch Shepherd. From their first meeting Ryan made our pup feel welcome, cared for, and safe. This was especially important to me, as I was transitioning between taking care of our dog full-time to working outside our home. It was anxiety-inducing for me and our dog, to say the least. Well, at least it was for me because I didn't have someone like Ryan to ease my transition.... Thanks to Ryan, we came home each night to a happy, well-exercised, healthy dog. He loved Ryan's sweet dog, Quigley, and even perked up his ears when I asked him if he saw his buddies that day. They had some great adventures on the Iron Horse Trail together. If you are looking for reliable, high-quality care for your dog with personable service that you can count on day-in and day-out, contact Ryan. Your dog will be in the best hands. Des will miss Ryan now that we've moved away. But we'll always be so thankful for him. Thank you, Ryan! read more

We hired Ryan to take care of our 3 dogs for 8 days last month. This was our first experience with in home pet sitting. In the past, we always either had family watch our dogs or did camp boarding. Since this was our first time for in home pet sitting, we were a little nervous about having a stranger in our home and also our dogs being alone for so many hours in the day. Ryan was kind enough to come over before our trip to help us ease those fears. The visit went well and our dogs got acquainted with him and we felt comfortable with him in our home. During our vacation, Ryan also kept me updated via email/text so I knew our dogs were being well taken care of. Knowing they were being so well cared for kept us relax and we were able to enjoy our vacation that much more. The best part was when we came home from vacation, our dogs didn't even bark. Normally, whenever we come home they bark when they hear the front door open. However, the night we got back from vacation, we walked in and they were so relaxed and calm. I could tell they had a great time with Ryan. In addition, Ryan's rates are very reasonable and he is easy to communicate with (email, phone & text). We'll definitely be using Ryan again in the future! read more

We own a very high energy young dog (Oliver) and some days we can use assistance with getting him the additional exercise he needs. Ryan has been an amazing addition to Oliver's weekly routine! Ryan takes him on scenic and long hikes. I really appreciate the pictures and text updates that Ryan sends me about their adventures, it makes me feel really at ease that our baby boy is in good hands. Oliver comes home both mentally and physically exercised, it makes such a huge impact on his demeanor. Another service that Ryan offers is care visits while we are away overnight or for extended time during the day. At first I was worried about leaving our Oliver home alone overnight, but after trying this service out it has been a useful and convenient option for us. When we come home we can tell that Oliver is not anxious or stressed. Having someone we can count on to take care of our baby boy has definitely added more flexibility to the social lives of two working parents! read more

Ryan is far and away the person we trust most to walk our pup. He's been walking her since she was just a few months old and she is always so excited to see him when we run into him walking other dogs in the neighborhood. He's dependable, trustworthy, and cares so much about the dogs he walks! read more

Ryan and team are wonderful! Very reliable, friendly and take good care of our two golden retrievers! Trust him with your furbabbies, you'll be happy you did! read more

BEWARE!! THIS BUSINESS IS SUPER UNPROFESSIONAL AND UNRELIABLE!!! I really wish I could give zero stars for this so called "business". Right from the get-go I should have known to look elsewhere. When I first called to set up a consultation the guy I spoke to (Ryan) was very distracted and pretty nonchalant about speaking to a possible future client. I decided to email him to set up and confirm a consultation appointment. After FIVE DAYS of no response, I followed up giving them a second chance before I looked elsewhere. I got a response and a consultation set, and I thought everything was good to go. Boy, was I wrong. Come consultation time, I'm looking at the clock and its been an hour since our consultation was supposed to start so I text Ryan and ask if we are still having our consultation. His response? "Oh shoot! Can we do it tomorrow? My bad!" I'm sorry, but I will NOT be entrusting someone to look after my pets who is so disrespectful of others' time and so unreliable. I very strongly suggest anyone looking to use their services look elsewhere. read more

I recommend Sunset Animal Care as we had great experience with the cat-sitting service during this past holiday season. Ryan followed directions and communicated quickly and efficiently. I would definitely trust him our house keys and taking care of our cat next time we travel. Thanks, Ryan! read more

Ryan was our dog sitter for 4 years when we were living in Ann Arbor. He's very reliable and dealt with everything that came up with our crazy group of critters incredibly well, plus he sent us regular updates whenever we were out of town. Our dogs love him and knowing he was there taking care of them gave us peace of mind whenever we'd go on vacation. We highly recommend him to anyone! read more

I would highly recommend Sunset Animal Care! We have had a wonderful experience working with Ryan. He takes care of our adult cat Pooky when we are out of town. Ryan's strengths are his ability to bond with Pooky (who can be quite particular) and his accountability to sending us updates. When we travel, we never worry about Pooky because we know he's in good hands with Ryan. read more

I'm long overdue in writing this review, but I would recommend Ryan as an experienced, reliable, and communicative pet care professional. I have a skittish older husky mix who can have separation anxiety, and I am entirely comfortable with Ryan petsitting her. As an Oaklander, I hired Ryan and paid his bridge tolls etc. even when he lived far out on the ocean side of San Francisco, and am glad he now resides closer in the East Bay. read more

I'm a longtime lurker, first-time Yelp! poster. I've finally been driven to post because two very different service providers went above and beyond for me in the past year and deserve recognition. Ryan of Sunset Animal Care is one of those providers. Last summer my dog (Chopper) was battling an illness that we thought was partially brought on by anxiety, so when we had to leave town suddenly for a funeral, we elected to keep him at home rather than board him at an overnight facility. We found Ryan through Yelp and set up a schedule whereby Ryan would make regular visitations over the weekend while we were away. Unfortunately, in the first 24 hours we were away, Chopper started showing signs of stress colitis. Ryan called us regularly with updates and showed sincere concern for our dog. Unfortunately, given Chopper's state, the only answer was to have someone stay overnight with him to let him out frequently. We were clearly in a bind. Despite our last minute request, Ryan agreed to spend the night at our house to take care of Chopper until we returned. This was above and beyond the normal call of duty, and Ryan did this having only met us and Chopper on the Friday before we left town. While I think we scared Ryan off for good after that weekend, I will forever be grateful for his flexibility and care for Chopper when we were in desperate need. P.S. Chopper is now fine and fully recovered! read more

Ryan has been walking our dog, Monte, for over a year and we couldn't be happier with the service he provides. Upon first meeting Ryan at the complementary consultation he arranged at our home, it was obvious that he is very passionate about what he does. Our walking needs tend to change week-to-week and Ryan is always able to accommodate our fluctuating schedule. I love receiving the selfies he sends us of him with our dog while I am at work. Ryan obviously cares very deeply for Monte and we would trust him to take care of our fur baby overnight while taking trips out of town should the need arise. read more

I've been using Sunset's services for all my pet care needs for about 2.5 years now, since my dog was a puppy. Ryan has always been super accessible and reliable, coming to my aid quickly even from the very beginning - when I brought my puppy home spontaneously with nobody to watch her when I went to work 2 days later! He's been watching her ever since, including when I'm on vacation, even on short notice. I will also be the first to admit that my dog wasn't an easy puppy - she used to chew a LOT and still has food allergies and anxiety. Ryan accommodates all our needs and is always a smiling face. I really don't know what we'd do without him! read more

I have been using sunset animal care for my 4 year old dog for the past year and I couldn't be happier with my service. Ryan goes above and beyond to be flexible and work around my ever changing work schedule. He shows a lot of love for my dog and I feel more than confident leaving her in his care. I highly recommend using his services as he is very reliable and will treat your dog as his own. read more

I am 100% convinced that Ryan is in fact as good as it gets! Ryan loves to take care of our puppy and our puppy LOVES Ryan. The days Ryan comes by she is much sweeter, happier, and calmer. He texts me updates and even pictures and he tires her out so much that she usually sleeps for a long time after he leaves. Aside from being great with our puppy, Ryan is very responsive, which is huge for me. He is great at answering texts and/or calls and he is very understanding of our complex schedules. He is very flexible and understands that our needs change drastically within 12 hours. I would sincerely recommend Ryan over anyone else! read more

I use Ryan to take of my rabbit when I am away on trips. He is very caring and sends me photos of her often. Ryan even took my trash out and brought in my mail when I didn't even ask. I would definitely recommend to a friend. read more

I canNOT recommend Ryan enough. I have an extremely anxious cat who has incurred expensive medical bills in the past when I've been away. Aside from following all of her particular instructions (including administering her meds), Ryan spent so much quality time with her that I returned to a perfectly content, relaxed and purring sweetheart. His free consultation is simultaneously a great time for your pet to get acquainted with him and for you to get to know him and his passion for animals. My cat tends to be wary of newcomers, but he had an instant bond with her -- the man knows his stuff. You'll be hard-pressed to find a better deal in the area than his 10-visit cat package, and you will breathe an ENORMOUS sigh of relief while you are away knowing that your pet is in the most capable of hands. Ryan is my new go-to cat sitter without a doubt, and I am so excited to have found him! read more

Ryan walks a dog in my neighborhood regularly and I often see him when I am out with my two dogs. He is super friendly and knowledgeable and it has always been obvious to me that he cares a great deal for the dog in his care. One day when I ran out to do a quick errand, and my dog slipped out of our gate that had been left open. He went to the front of our home, saw Ryan and his dog, and ventured out into the street to greet them. Ryan realized that my dog was loose, took him into his care, called me immediately after reading Griffins tag and led him safely back into our house. I would hire Ryan to care for my dog without reservation! He definitely goes above and beyond, making sure the animals in his care are safe and happy!! read more

Ryan is a wonderful dog walker and care taker. He takes my extremely energetic terrier to the beach and the park often. Ryan goes out of his way to make sure that my dog stays out of trouble, which is a big responsibility because my dog is a terrier that does not get along with some dogs that he meets. He is reliable, trustworthy, great with dogs, and I highly recommend him. read more

Ryan has a small business, but runs it with great professionalism. He took great care of my cats on two occasions. He's very respectful and flexible. I checked several providers and he's reasonably priced, too. I trust him with my girls! read more

I really hate to leave this review, but here goes: I have had a really terrible experience working with this petsitter. He has lost multiple sets of keys to my house, responds to booking requests at the last minute, and even once failed to show up for several days after I hired him to take care of my cat for a couple weeks back in May. Thank God my housemate was home and noticed he hadn't come around, or my cat would probably be dead (he has asthma and needs daily medication, in addition to, you know, food and water). Granted, he informed me after the fact of some personal circumstances which contributed to him forgetting to make those visits and eventually gave me a partial refund, but in general he was very bad about communicating all of this to me and I was left in a panic until I could finally get home. I would have left this at never hiring him again if he hadn't spent an hour today harassing me via text to leave him a positive review (and getting upset with me when I told him why I couldn't do that.) Personally, I would not recommend hiring this petsitter. read more

Ryan is a very conscientious and reliable pet carer. He has been terrific with our cat -- I think he is a true animal lover, which is important in this line of work. He also is very responsive, answering text messages right away and providing updates while we're gone. I definitely recommend Sunset Animal Care! read more

Ryan has watched my foster cat on several occasions. She was not the friendliest in the beginning and it made me smile when she emerged from her hiding spot while I was gone and Ryan sent me an elated photo of this event. I have needed last minute care on a few occasions and Ryan has always accommodated my needs. I appreciate his obvious love of animals and that he even swept up the litter that my cat had flung around. I would definitely recommend him highly. read more

We have used Sunset Animal Care for almost 2 years now for all our dog walking and boarding needs. Ryan, the owner, is incredibly helpful, flexible, and easy to work with. He really cares about the animals he cares for, which is really all that matters to me. He always sends picture updates of our dog having a blast hanging out! Thanks Sunset and Ryan. I'd recommend them to anyone. read more

I just moved to Ann Arbor and needed a dog sitter on short notice. I called Ryan and he got back to me immediately. He took great care of my dogs, and I could tell during our "meet and greet" that this isn't just a job for him -- he really loves dogs. He sent me a picture of my two dogs while I was away -- it was a great way to see that my pups were being taken care of. I would recommend Ryan to anyone looking for a sitter! read more

My husband and I were going away just before Thanksgiving and were looking for options for our cat Onyx. After doing some research on Yelp, we came across Sunset Animal Care. It had excellent reviews and we decided to try it out. After exchanging several emails with Ryan, he came to our house to meet Onyx and us. He was so sweet and nice and Onyx took to him right away. Ryan took notes of all the things we were telling him and asked a lot of questions (which was great). He took care of Onyx for 5 days and every time we sent him a text message to see how things were going, he quickly answered them. It was nice to know that someone caring was taking care of our cat in our own home and that he was not put on additional stress while we were away. When we got home, Onyx looked great, his litter was clean and Ryan even put all the food cans in the recycling bins outside! I would recommend Ryan in a heartbeat and will definitively use his services again. read more
