This is the first time I've EVER left a negative review... that alone speaks volumes of how terrible this experience was.
I've been out of town for the last week while my Mom had watched my daughter. To thank her I wanted to buy a gift. (she leaves soon for Hawaii and was on her way to Sunsations to start a base tan.) I called Sunsations as soon as she left my house to buy a package over the phone.
I explained the situation to the woman over the phone, I said that my Mom would be arriving in 5 mins and that I wanted to buy a gift over the phone quickly to surprise her.
Several seconds of silence and she scoffs and says how odd my request is. Immediately rude, abrasive and completely condescending. She said that in the last several years people have only paid for a tan package over the phone twice.
... so, to clarify, people HAVE paid over the phone, but because it doesn't happen often she's going to be rude to me about asking??? What the hell???
I assumed I was reading her attitude wrong and ask again, explaining that I've been out of town and haven't had a chance to come by in person. I just landed last night at 11pm and have been at work all day.
She's still incredulous and rude, with plenty of "uuhhhhs" and repeating the same thing several times. "You have to understand that credit card fraud is a real thing..."
Yes... I am completely aware of that. But she isn't telling me they don't do payments over the phone, just telling me how weird my request is?! I then explained that my Mom had gone for years and I was buying it for her, hoping that would suffice and that I wasn't a random person who stole a card. I give her my Mom's name, (probably a mistake on my part because she'll likely be a miserable person to her at some point due to this interaction.)
I can't with confidence quote every word accurately, so I won't bother trying to type out the whole conversation. I don't know what the hell she was trying to get out of me? She didn't say it wasn't possible but also wasn't offering anything I could do to prove that I wasn't committing fraud??
This is the worst customer service experience I've ever had. I would have immediately accepted that they didn't allow credit card payments over the phone for security purposes... but that's not what she said. She'd rather spend two minutes scoffing rudely at my request without offering solutions. I am extremely disappointed with them and would expect basic respect.
I did not raise my voice... I did not call her names... I told her I was just as surprised as she was by this because there are many places that take credit cards over the phone. At the very end of the call when I told her to forget it, I was going to call somewhere else she was suddenly eager to make the transaction. I'm not going to do business with anyone that's condescending. Anyone who knows me knows that I don't treat people poorly and I also don't accept poor treatment.
I called my Mom and told her that I would gladly buy her a tan package from anywhere else. Not all employees treat customers like this, just one. (Hopefully) I didn't get the person's name but hopefully they'll proudly and inaccurately try to defend their piss poor behavior. This goes beyond being unprofessional. If you're that miserable you shouldn't work in a customer service role of any kind.
I'm sure I'll ruffle feathers with this being a small town and everyone knowing each other but I don't care. I'm disappointed and frustrated with how I was treated and hope that my review keeps people cautious. read more
