Lemon cream pie, lemon doberge cake, lemon drops, lemon Italian ice...you get the jist of it, right? If you are like me, then lemon lovers listen up. Keller's has the best lemon bars on the planet. Well, at least the best on the planet that I've tried. They are divine. Soft shortbread crust with a cool, sweet and absolutely perfect lemon topping dusted with powdered sugar. They are so good that I've made it a habit to stop in here at least once a week for one. They carry lots of other yummy looking desserts but I can't pull myself away from the lemon bars. Try one! I know you'll love them like I do. There is one little warning though. You might want to check your shirt before you walk back into a public place after indulging in one. I made that mistake once and after several strange looks realized that because of all the powdered sugar on my shirt I looked like I had just walked out of an Al Pacino movie. Say hello to my little (lemony) friend. :)

We tried a box of 4 and opted for the Notta Butta (cookie butter), Velveteen (red velvet cheesecake), Little Miss Shortcake (white chocolate strawberry), and chocolate chip. They were all so delicious and had a crispy texture on the outside while still being gooey in the center. My personal favorite was the Notta Butta because I adore anything with cookie butter and my second favorite was the Little Miss Shortcake because it had excellent strawberry flavor that paired great with the white chocolate. All of our choices were delicious, and we'd love to return to try the other flavors.

The puff pastry is some of the best I have had, incredibly flaky with a perfect texture and just the right balance of richness. Prices are on the higher side, but in this case it feels justified based on the quality and execution. If you are in Lafayette and appreciate well done French pastries, this is definitely worth a stop.

That said, I'm sorry, I was hoping I'd love this place as most of the locals do but it's a no for me. I have to say, the moment you walked in, you knew you were in a bonafide bakery: the smell was intoxicating. The ladies were extremely friendly and attentive. The donuts in the casing were absolutely beautiful as were the king cakes and the glazed donuts were really soft and tasty, so that's a plus. However, those stuffed sausage and cheesy things....no,no,no,no,no,no,no (FLAVA-LESS). Ya know, it's really hard not to get good flavor from pork. I mean, it's used as a seasoning in many dishes so, I'm confused. Also, the cheese didn't melt thoroughly as there was a huge chunk of white cheese sticking out on one side and the other side had sausage and egg. Just curious as to why they're on separate sides of the bun and not conjoined in the middle? Asking for a friend lol. I'm only traveling through and 3 stars are generous IMO. I wish you all much success!

All Star Bakeshop opened not too long ago, aka right before the pandemic nightmare began. I know a little about her story and know she's local, has a passion for food and loves putting a smile on your face. I'm all about supporting local whenever I can and had been meaning to stop in here for a while. Then with the virus madness happened, I worried about this little bake shop. Will she stay open? Can she stay open. Oh hey, there's something I can do to help...go in and buy some goodies. So that's what I did. I had an idea of what I'd be picking up (hello lemon and lemon berry cake by the slice) but when I got in I started asking about the (HUGE) cupcakes. The first one I picked up was chocolate chip cookie dough. I don't know how, but the icing is rich and decadent and tastes like the guilty pleasure that is raw cookie dough but a frosting consistency. On top of a devil's food cake, this dessert truly is the best kind of evil. You guys. Go get one. Like, right now. I also tried a churro cupcake and it was cinnamon and caramel deliciousness. Do yourself a favor and go show All Star some love. I know I'll be a regular...I have my eye on her crawfish pies. You will be happy you did.

While I didn't try a huge selection of goods, if the Blueberry Lemon cupcake is any indication, their cupcakes are MOIST and flavorful! My fave item I tasted was the strawberry cookie. It had a slight cake taste/texture and the white chocolate chips added a creamy richness YUM! The item I got for myself was a slice of cheesecake. You're allowed to add toppings like fruit or chocolate free of charge. I got chocolate and pecans - glad I added this because sadly I didn't love the cheesecake. It lacked sweetness and there were tiny clumps throughout. The best part is the prices! "Instagram" bakeries are dominating the game right now, and they can hurt the pockets, but Fudge It has beautiful, yummy treats at a very reasonable price point!
