Visited Sunoco in Gainesville V.A. this evening to complete an inspection that on average takes around 15 minutes. Got there just before 4.45pm. No one in line and no one approached for service. I pull up to the front and an employee forcefully yells out closed! I stepped into the store to ask for the managers card and found the manager.owner.operator running the front register. Manager stated that although they stop doing inspections at 5.00p, they put the sign out at 3.00p. The owner/operator Dale went on to say how can we "get out" by 5.00p if we don't stop around 3.00p we would be here all night. I explained to him that if I am the only customer in line just before 4.45p there was time to complete the inspection given that by his own admission inspections, take 15 minutes to complete. He then used condescending language such as how can I explain this so that you understand as if I cannot comprehend that 4.45p + 15 minutes equal 5p. He states that his guy has to get to West V.A. and I expressed concern for the owner believing that having a sign that says closes at 5p and out the door at 5p were one and the same. If the transaction were lengthy I understand, but they closed more then 15 minutes early which is the time needed to complete an inspection. I asked if a customer came into the store at 4.59p and was gathering items to purchase beyond 5.00p what he would do and he stated that the customer could take all the time they needed passed the 5p mark. Makes me wonder what the issue was with me that makes the treatment I received different than any other customer. We have come a long way from what is considered acceptable behavior as it relates to customer service. If there are no customers, there are no jobs, no businesses to run read more
