I'mma start this review off by saying I don't like FISH. Like, pretty much not at all. I never…read moreorder fish when I'm in the United States or any type of fish soup to be sure. That being said,... When in Rome... Or Scotland.... So going to the UK, I've been there before, I know fish and chips is a thing. So when I am traveling, I will order and eat the local traditional dishes. So when we found Findlay's just by chance while driving through the Scottish countryside, the fish and chips was the thing to get. And I'm very glad I did to be honest. First of all, the cut of fish was massive. Like, covered the entire plate big. We were actually greeted and served by the owner of the restaurant (and possibly head Chef?) He was an absolutely wonderful fellow. He told us all about the history of the restaurant, how they are close to the ocean so they get an excellent selection of very, very good quality fish, which helps their dishes to be the best fish and chips you can get in Scotland. I believe that was what he claimed, and I think it'd be hard to dispute that. My wife and I very much enjoyed it. She likes fish a lot and orders it often, and she loved it. The breading was light and crispy and full of flavor. The fish was meaty and very tasty. The owner also recommended a local dish, which was the Cullen Skink. Now, prior to this experience, I thought skink was just a lizard. But I said what the heck, let's do it. And I'm so glad we did. It was actually a fish soup, no lizards involved. And it was very, very good. I literally finished the bowl myself. My wife and I shared it, but I left none in the bowl. It was that good. We very much enjoyed our conversation with the owner and I loved the interior of the restaurant. It has a very cute interior and it was a very clean restaurant. The the walls were covered with photos and history of the area, local fisherman and women who were involved in the fishing trade. It was very informative and just an absolutely wonderful lunch for us. To be honest, we chose this location due to the fact it was very close to where we happened to be, plus the name, Fraserburgh reminded us of the Fraser characters in the Outlander television series. Findlay's Fish Bar & Diner was an excellent experience for us from start to finish. And I would highly recommend it to anyone who happened to be in the area and looking for an excellent meal.

I was happy to see fresh caught Langoustine on the menu so we had to order. I was able to switch my…read moreorder from chips (had too many back down the road earlier in the day) to onion rings. The breading was light but greasy so I opted for taking off the breading so I could taste the langoustine. It was very good but I wasn't over the moon about the overall flavor of anything. I loved the little corner cafe though and the lovely gentleman who waited on us and everyone with genuine care and a huge Scottish smile.

During this 10 mins went to my bank account and saw the payment as taken. At 9.45 called shop to be told order had been rejected. Too late to call anywhere else. Told the reason of rejection was that they close at 10pm, were busy, no driver, and couldn't get a taxi booked. The lad said he was on the phone to the boss for these 10mins I was placed on hold, asking what to do, she said reject the order. This was 1 hour 15mins before close. Taxis in Peterhead on a Sundat at 9.30 can be bust but come on don't believe in the 10mins all taxi companies were checked. No warning on screen the order had been rejected, no phone call!!Call from manager today to say they have only rejected 1 order ever before, mine was the 2nd and I should know that no confirmation email meant it was rejected. No I obviously didn't. This would never have happened in the Zanres of old, Alison and the staff would have jumped in the car and delivered it themselves rather than use a taxi unavailable excuse. Very poor customer service and reasons and explanation laughable. Anyway Zanres enjoyed my pot noodle and cheese and crackers for Sunday tea and on a positive note, saved myself £38, including the most expensive delivery charge of any takeaway website £6. Compass Rose is definately streaks ahead when it comes to quality and service. Just a pity they were closed. Very poor Zanres.
