I was visiting Aberdeen with my Mom and Sister and wanted to take them out for a treat at a…read moreMichelin star restaurant. The presentation and food were fabulous! We start with the baked scallop with cauliflower and basil (extra £5--worth it!) & the mozzarella arancini with tomato vodka sauce and parmesan. Both were so yummy! The scallop was baked into the shell, and I may have made noises while eating everything. The hake was a little bland, as white fish can be, but the eggplant, miso custard, and hazelnut really complemented it causing tasty explosion of flavor. I can't eat a lot of pasta, but I wanted to eat all of my sister's king oyster mushroom ricotta gnocchi with spinach and garlic confit. She took half of it to-go so we could save room for dessert. My mother enjoyed her fillet of beef with caramelised onion and beef shin--she'd never had that before and was very pleasantly surprised! We shared all the deserts--all very delightful, you can't go wrong! The atmosphere is quaint, with the cafe sitting next to a gothic church on a quiet street--even tho it's very close to the City Center. The cafe can fit about 10 tables of 2-4 people...if that. The service was some of the best I found in Scotland. They were attentive, asking how the meal was going and refilling drinks. I believe the US has some high standards of service, and the staff at Moonfish cafe were on top of things!

I was introduced to this restaurant about 8 years ago when I told the concierge at my hotel in…read moreAberdeen that I was craving a nice, more upscale seafood restaurant. And since my first dinner at the Atlantis Restaurant I have dined there about 12 times, each time the food has been remarkable! My suggestion is get reservations. The restaurant isn't abundantly large and is inside The Mariner Hotel, so it fills up quite quickly. Their wine list is small, but it's nice. Nothing too fancy, and the wait staff has always been helpful in guiding me toward some delicious alternatives to pair with my meal. I prefer seafood over beef, but many of my colleagues and dinner companions have ordered and have always raved about the beef. The Atlantis usually have some very delicious fish and beef specials and if there is a Scottish Salmon entree that is what I order and have never been disappointed. Also, their dessert selection is small, but delicious. The service is always very good -- which if you haven't been to Scotland, the service in Scotland is much better than England -- however, I have found some incredible restaurants in England, too. My only complaint is the atmosphere. The tables and chairs are kind of casual and made of light wood -- perhaps Oak -- and the window treatments, carpet and furnishings don't seem to "do it" for me. It's like the restaurant personality and the menu don't go together. But if you can look past the burgundy, blue and gold color pallet I promise your palette won't be disappointed.

(not quite, but it felt like it). stand outs were the squid dish, spicy prawns, delicious broccoli and yeah, everything was good! including the fried rice and the noodles. we were completely stuffed by the end of it, but it is possible to go here and eat dessert too as i saw other tables doing so! for £22 a head this has to be one of life's greatest bargains, especially considering the food is actually good and tastes a big cut above a standard buffet that would offer similiar fare. i have to say that the gluttony involved in consuming food like this kind of frightens me and disgusts me in equal measures, so, although i am glad i went and think it's a very good idea well executed, it's not somewhere i would come to often...for the sake of my life! waiting staff were friendly, efficient and personable.

It wasn't that expensive, but id rather have half the portion size and fresh food than a lot of frozen/canned stuff.
