From getting paperwork done online and at the office to getting options explained to me, the office was easy to work with. Went to see Dr Chen after having persistent toothache for almost 2 months after a root canal/crown. After having CT scan done, it appeared that the general dentist who did the root canal likely missed one of the canals, allowing the pain to fester. After a very gentle and meticulous root canal treatment, the pain is completely gone after 24 hours. Dr Chen also drilled a relatively small hole in the crown so likely should be able to keep the recently placed crown. Highly recommend Dr Chen for endodontic treatment, especially if your tooth has a complex canal anatomy. read more

Dr. Jung was fabulous. I went to the dentist and they said that they needed a root canal. I was leaving on a vacation in two days, my dentist called and set me up an appointment that day. An hour and a half later I was in the chair. Unbelievable experience: felt no pain during the entire procedure, they were constantly concerned about my pain level and comfort, disclosed the total cost before we started, checked on my insurance and made sure everything would be OK. It was really nice since these were not people that I knew and I was going by word-of-mouth only from my own dentist. But I can tell you that this was a relaxing experience especially when you are in a great deal of pain and leaving on a three week vacation. Great to know I now have a new endodontist. I was able to get an appointment right away and I like that I was able to fill out all my paperwork online. I was greeted by a friendly staff. My aunt had a toothache for daysssss that didn't seem to go away & instead was progressively getting worse. This was not the time for this nonsense because she was flying out of the country in less than 4 days. We consulted with primary dentist who referred us to Sunny Hills Endo. So glad he did!! Spoke with Jeanette; she was so helpful and friendly. She understood our situation and urgency; even though they were booked solid, they worked us in for a consult. We arrived and everyone in the front was smiling and welcoming! This really helped set the tone and eased the nerves of my aunt who's a dental phobe. I mean Root canals are probably most ppls nitemare but here they were so pretty and nice that you can't help but smile back. The assistant took us back to the treatment room, took a 3D image of the problem tooth(THIS IS SOOO COOL!!! All the angles you can see a tooth?! Amaaazing technology; worth the fee for sure for peace of mind that they're not guessing treatment!) and then we met with Dr. K. He is sooooo nice. His calm-gentle temperament plus he took the time to explain what's going on with problem tooth and how we need to proceed. Really appreciated him being patient while I had to translate what he was saying. She ended up needing an extraction so off we went to the Oral Surgeon. Am so grateful for the care received here. I did not have a good experience at Sunny Hill Endodontics. I've visited many dental and medical offices but have never had to provide my SSN to any of them. Sunny Hill insisted that patients provide them with SSNs so that they can process insurance claims. That is not true. Since dental offices do not have sufficiently robust security practices, I declined to do so. Then, they told me that they did not need my SSN if I paid everything upfront first. This should have been a huge red flag. However, on the advice of my previous general dentist who referred me to them, I gave them a chance.  Dr. Chen was the endodontist who consulted and treated me. He told me that there was no infection but I needed to do a root canal on tooth "A" because my tooth was "traumatized" and probably would not recover. Was this really a legitimate reason to do RCT? I did not seek out a second opinion because my previous dentist "trusted Dr. Chen so much and said that he would never lie to her". On the day of the root canal, I told Dr Chen that tooth "A" was not bothering me as much as tooth "B". He did another cold test and there was no pain nor did the cold sensation linger so I asked if it was really necessary to go forward with RCT? He said yes and proceeded to do RCT on tooth "A". Root canals are not supposed to be painful but my two sessions were. During the two sessions, he seemed unsure and used anesthesia to gauge if it was a "tooth" problem. His rationale was if I felt numb, then it was a tooth problem. Why did he advise me to do RCT if he wasn't sure? They charged extra (not covered by insurance) for the Gentle Wave part of the treatment. The Gentle Wave was done solely by the assistant. Halfway through the root canal, Dr. Chen left to consult another patient. I was left for a long time with the dental dam in my mouth. He came back to finish the procedure and it was more painful because the anesthesia was already wearing off by then. I pretty much paid extra for more pain. There was no difference in my pain before and after RCT. To my surprise, I found out that he had lied to my general dentist. I obtained a copy of my dental records and Dr. Chen mentioned prescribing me medication for infection (Amoxicillin and Medrol). That did not happen at all. At no point did he prescribe me ANY MEDICATION. He specifically told me that I did not have an infection based on my x-rays. My report also said that tests were inconclusive. How did he go from "inconclusive tests" to RCT is necessary? If he had fabricated information on the prescription, what else did he lie about? It turned out that my pain was an occlusion problem and not an endodontic issue. I guess Dr. Chen only saw me as just another pay check. This clinic is definitely overbooking patients. Dr. Chen is always late to the appointments and I usually have to wait anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. In addition, he jumps back and forth between patients, thereby prolonging treatment time. read more

Look, no one likes getting dental work done. Root canals are one of those treatments that people dread. I knew when my upper mollar started hurting and swelled - even cause a sinus issue - that a root canal was in the near future. Dr. Pham, from All Day Smile, referred me to Sunny Hill, and I was able to get an afternoon appointment for a consult the for the next day. They took x-rays and Dr. Kawilarang did a percussion and cold test to determined what treatment was needed to save the tooth. He was very thorough with what was needed and answered the questions I had. He was able to do the treatment the same day, and prescribed me some antibiotics. When it comes to cost, yes, out of pocket cost is high. But when I say that it was possibly the best experience I've had when getting a root canal, 10/10, you best believe it. The treatment took about 1.5 hours, I didn't feel ANYTHING. Even after the anesthesia wore off I was just a bit sore. I've learned my lesson by "going the cheaper route", as they say "lo barato sale caro" ("the cheap ends up being expensive"). If I ever need to get another root canal done (wish I hope I don't), I would go back to Sunny Hill. read more

Dr. Chen and Dr. Jung can be sketchy (x- rays, explanations). I couldnt believe it at first, lost #28 due to Dr. Jung. But when Dr. Chen did it, or tried, I caught it. I would have lost #21 as well. Thankfully, I showed general dentist refund & letter (tried to NDA me) & I was able to go elsewhere for that root canal. read more

180$ down the drain for this man to tell me I didn't need a root canal, took three photos of the tooth and did not even examine my whole mouth, as I go to walk out the door I am asked to pay 180$ out of pocket when mind you I have one of the best insurance offered. Dr Chen left me a voicemail and I Quote him "we can dictate the price and charge you what we feel is necessary for the treatment" "insurance is not here to help you or help us they are only here for a buck" his choice words. My husband was recently referred by his dentist to Sunny Hills Edodontics, and they have amazed us from start to finish. They fit him into the schedule within a half hour of his phone call. Dr. Kawilarang was friendly and knowledgable. He reviewed xrays, reassured my husband that his dentist was wise to get a second opinion, but that my husband actually would not need further treatment for the issue. At the visit, the office staff attempted to run our insurance, but were denied. My husband paid out of pocket, but the staff kept working on it and eventually were able to bill the visit to our insurance. When we received the EOB, we saw that we owed less than the amount my husband paid. He called the office and was assured they were aware and were already processing a refund on our credit card. The charge was reversed the next day! Not only that, but they mailed us a printed receipt plus a clear, easy-to-read statement showing the initial amount paid, the refund, and a resulting balance of $0. After encountering similar situations with other healthcare providers (paying up front then having to prove reimbursement is warranted and then waiting weeks for a paper check to arrive in the mail), this felt like a dream! We are so pleased with this experience and will return to Sunny Hills Endodontics in the future! read more

I had a root canal yesterday morning and I am amazed about my whole experience at Sunny Hills Endodontics. The front office was so friendly and helpful the first day of consultation and yesterday after the root canal completion. Dr.Dale Jung is the best! He was so friendly and caring. He explained to me in detail about my root canal after viewing my 3 D imaging and digital radiography of my tooth . A surgical operating microscope was used during the procedure to enhance the visualization of the inside of the tooth to make treatment more precise. Another aid was the GentleWave procedure that helps clean and disinfect the root canal system. The technology used was amazing! I only felt one injection of the multiple injections before the procedure which was just a slight sting that lasted about 3 seconds. I was comfortable and relaxed while Dr. Jung kept me informed of what he would be doing as he progressed. I didn't feel pain which was quite different than my last experience at another place. Veronica was a friendly and great dental technician. She made me comfortable throughout the process while she assisted Dr. Jung. It is hard to believe but I didn't have pain after I went home, it was just a slight discomfort. In the future I will definitely return to Dr. Jung and the excellent staff if I ever need another root canal. I am so very very thankful that I was referred to Dr. Chen. He is efficient and kind, but I had trauma and issues with dental procedures since I was a kid. Going to the dentist is not my favorite, I wished Dr. Chen was my doctor then. If I had him, my two tooth would still be present. those teeth went to Heaven. Unfortunately, I was in dire need of 2 root canals and upon recommendation had gone to Dr Chen in Fullerton Ca. In my opinion "Dr" Chen needs to go back to school and learn how to care for his patients and not see them only with $$$$ in his eyes. He also was not yet qualified to conduct himself in a professional manner. Thankfully, upon request of my dentist I returned refusing to ever have Dr Chen lay his hands on my mouth after reading reviews here on Yelp!! Just wanted to give special shoutouts to Dr. K and team for taking care of me regarding the procedure that started almost 1 yr ago. Initially I was recommended by Dr. Baek to this facility to examine a tooth that hopefully can be saved, after further examination Dr. K recommended I do an apicoectomy surgery. We went ahead with the procedure and came back couple times to check to making sure all things were healing accordingly. Today I am able to bite down on the Lee sandwich with minor force since we all know that sandwich bread can be harder than superman's steel hammer sometimes. When I first met Dr. K I thought he looked young for a surgeon and in my head I was like, "man does he know what he's going or experienced enough as he seems like one of our club's M3 driver". Yes, he was very professional, patient in addressing any concerns and skillful to pull off this task (with minor pain). I had a couple of Gentle Wave root canals here a couple of years ago, thanks to faulty veneers and crowns done by my old dentist. Dr. K let me know that I would need root canals done on a few more teeth in the future. Well fast forward two years and he was right. I had another tooth with a crown that needed a root canal. Today, Dr. Kawilarang completed a root canal and I would highly recommend HIM if you are searching for an excellent practitioner in performing root canals. There are several reasons for my 5 star rating. Dr. K and his assistant Melisa explained the set-up procedures and root canal procedures in straightforward terms. They worked efficiently together and were all business once the root canal started. As a patient, I sensed they have worked together in the past and it was comforting, during the procedure, to hear them talk about the process without hesitations or uncertainties. He squeezed me in for a root canal during something of an emergency situation just hours after my dentist called in a referral. The procedure required that drilling through my gold crown to clean out the four roots in an upper molar. It went like clockwork. An excellent staff checked me in and handled the paperwork swiftly.
