Here's the thing... having a root canal is no fun. Like, not at all. This wasn't my first and I was still nervous and miserable heading to office even knowing how positive my last experience here was. But I think they're used to dealing with less than thrilled people showing up. I had Dr. Pullen this time and he lives up to the hype. Made sure I was plenty numb and comfortable the entire time. He worked efficiently and it was honestly over quicker than I thought it would be. And it was painless. The most uncomfortable thing was keeping my mouth open the entire time, and if that's my biggest complaint, I chalk that up to a big win. The entire staff was friendly also. I've always been so proud of my winning streak with my teeth, always have compliments on my smile and dentists have told me I have "great teeth". Then all of a sudden I have my first toothache at 50 plus years old. WTH??? After my dentist looking and x-raying and not finding the source, I got a referral to Dr. Pullen's office to have them check further. I was nervous of the unknown. And even more nervous when I found out that I was actually going to be having a root canal right then and there on my very first visit!! Yikes! But, Dr. Pullen's staff and Dr. Pullen himself were all very personable and calming, very friendly and helped me feel at ease. I did NOT feel a thing during the 90 minute procedure! The doctor and staff kept making sure I was okay and comfortable, I was. Very cool vibe in this office as well, so Southern California beachy and soothing. As much as I never want anything more to happen with my teeth, or go through another one of those excruciating tooth aches, should it happen again I know I will be in good hands with Dr. Pullen! Highly, highly recommend! I paid my co-pay on the day of service, and the front desk said that should my insurance pay more than expected then I'd receive a refund via same way that I paid. Where I think Dr. Pullen does good work, be aware of hidden fees that aren't explained to you. I had a procedure done and signed the normal waiver but it was never explained to me that they were going to be sending a piece of my tissue to UCLA pathology to be assessed. I was never told the reason why this was required or that it was going to happen. A few weeks later I got a $300 bill from UCLA pathology. When I called Dr. Pullen's office I was told that I signed the waiver and that is why they took my insurance card. I explained that I had never been told that there was anything being sent to pathology or why and they told me that I signed the waiver, even though it wasn't explained to me that there might be an additional cost. They told me they would look into it and get back to me but they never did. When I called the billing department at UCLA pathology they were told they weren't even given my insurance information. The experience was very frustrating. Where I think Dr. Pullen is a good doctor, make sure you ask for everything to be explained to you and be careful what you're signing. I'm very frustrated by the whole experience. My family will not be returning. read more

This office was incredible to work with from start to finish. They were able to get me in the next day. Then from the moment I arrived their staff was so incredibly nice and accommodating. Doctor Pullen is the best! I had a permanent crown that was done at another dental facility that was HORRIBLE. I couldn't eat anything crunchy and my tooth was hot and cold sensitive. I was in an immense amount of pain and would get excruciating headaches from the tooth pain. My brother told me about Dr. Pullen and how awesome he is. Dr. Pullen performed a root canal to fix my tooth. Since the root canal, I feel amazing. The pain is gone and my tooth feels better than ever. Very thankful for Dr. Pullen and his wonderful staff. Had to get my root canal fixed which was botched by another dentist despite being worked on several times. The other dentist gave up and said I needed a tooth extraction. I decided to switch to a new dentist who recommended Dr. Pullen. Dr. Pullen was able to fix my tooth in one session right on the appointment day. He seems to use some special process that other dentist did not use (the type of instruments he used). He also filled in the top of the tooth so I would not need to go back to my primary dentist (Dr. Hernandez, who is also great) I had pain for over 1.5 years hoping my tooth would heal itself. But I switched dentists to Dr. Hernandez who recommended Dr. Pullen. He was also able to do the pain medication correctly during the visit so I did not feel anything. The process only took about 1 hour. If you need a root canal, go to this doctor. He takes the pain away. He also has great chair side manners to relax you before the procedure. read more

This review is based on a professional working relationship in a clinical setting. I worked for a major Dental company for 8 years (no longer) and had the pleasure of working with Dr. Pullen and Elmi for all of those years. I have never had a Root Canal by either, but I will say that if my family ever needs one this office would be a top choice. In those 8 years around OC I have seen the most disgusting things you could think of in Dentistry. Fortunately, Brea Endodontics has never shown me a "gross factor." They have always been a top-tiered office whom I respect. They treat their patients with care by giving them treatment with the most advanced tools in the industry. The office has invested heavily in the most advanced treatments that you will not see in most offices. Neither Dr will tell you but most Endodontists will just use a few syringes of an irrigation solution to disinfect your tooth. This is a best practice, but Brea Endo has gone the extra mile and invested in equipment ($XXX,XXX) to ensure the disinfection is adequate. Both Drs travel to 3rd world countries to offer their services to the underprivileged without any compensation requested. If you think their prices are costly, they are not. They are inline with the rest of the area, but they are actually offering a better service than the other clinicians in the area. I personally would rather pay the money to save my tooth than being told I need an implant. If you find a doctor that is cheaper then I would tell you that you are getting what you pay for. They are most likely using inferior products and offering an inferior service. These doctors are honest, intelligent, and caring for their patients. I 100% recommend their services as I have seen the best and the worst in Orange County. Things to look for when getting a Root Canal: - A doctor you trust. - Magnification from a Microscope! - A file that is brand new. - Irrigation System, not just syringes. - Warm Fill of Gutta Percha. read more

I called in the beginning of the week and was able to be scheduled for a consult and treatment that Friday following my call. Super easy. Maggie, at the front, was professional and helpful with scheduling and answering my questions. When I checked in for my appt, I registered on their computer and was taken back quickly. I barely had to wait. Once my consultation was through, Dr. Elmi thoroughly explained what she was going to be doing. I was able to understand the process and feel confident in her and accepted the treatment. Once prepped, she reminded me to breath and swallow normally - being that numb sometimes you feel like you can't swallow, but you can. One of the canals was calcified so it wasn't easy for her to get through all of them, however she did! I was able to see the xrays of before and after the procedure. Pretty amazing stuff. I've managed to make it my whole life without ever needing a root canal... Until last week. Nervous as anybody could be, I set out to find an endodontist to do the work. I am so grateful to have chosen Dr. Pullen. He's gentle, thorough, has excellent equipment, and a staff that is comforting, funny and awesome. I'm a horrible patient because of my fear of all things dental. But I really work things up in my brain way worse than they are. I didn't even feel the shot of Novacaine. How can that be? A few others mentioned this in their yelp review but it is true... I almost fell asleep during the root canal. It's really unfathomable! We don't have dental insurance so price is certainly a factor but I wouldn't go to anybody else for a root canal, ever. If you're reading this and you've already been to see him then you know exactly what I'm talking about. If you're deciding whether or not to have him do some work for you... Until I had what I refer to as "the root canal from hell," I never understood why people were so afraid of them. I was an old pro... I'd had several! Dr. Pullen saw me as an emergency patient on a Friday, when the Endodontist who did my procedure wasn't available and the pain was getting worse instead of better after 3 days. At that time he put me on antibiotics and gave me a prescription for a pain reliever. The pain and swelling got worse and I was in the emergency room that night for IV antibiotics. Dr. Pullen called the next day but I was in Urgent Care getting another dose of IV antibiotics and missed the call. He called again that night, and after hearing about all I'd been through, asked me to come in on Monday, when he did a more indepth assessment of my tooth and discovered I had an infection. Two of the canals were left untreated and had become necrotic. He completed the procedure and referred me back to the care of my dentist to complete the permanent filling and crown. I continued to have discomfort after the crown was placed, spoke with Dr. Pullen, and he asked me to wait and see if it settled down after all the trauma the tooth had been through with the infection, and I agreed. When it didn't after a couple of months, he had me return for a follow-up visit. As luck or lack of would have it, the crown margins weren't sealed, and cotton pellets and temporary filling he placed were under the now permanent crown... Are you getting some idea now why I refer to my experience as "the root canal from hell?" He properly sealed the tooth and placed a temporary crown on it. I can't begin to say enough about Dr. Pullen's care for his patients, the professionalism and care of his staff, and the treatment I received. It took almost 9 months to compete my root canal and it was because of this I was able to get through it with most of my sanity intact. If you see this... Thank you Dr. Pullen! read more

If I could give this facility more than 5 stars, they would be a 10!! I went to another dentist within my insurance network for a problem tooth that I had for a while. It was cracked and it started hurting every so often. The dentist that I went to not only judged me, but made me feel bad about the issues with my teeth and she wanted to focus more on a different tooth that wasn't causing me any problems whatsoever. She was saying I needed 2 extractions and a deep cleaning which I called BS on so I didn't go back because I'm not there to give them all my money for things that don't need to be done, at least at that time. I figured I would look for someone else that would give me a second opinion on work that actually needed to be done but, which my full time work schedule it was hard to accomplish so I put it off thinking if I went this long without issues with my tooth, I could wait a little longer.. WRONG. Monday night i was in excruciating pain from my tooth and nothing seemed to help. I finally found some orajel and it helped the pain for the time being but I told myself this week I had to get it taken care of. Sure enough I found this gem, Dr. Pullen. I scheduled an appointment with him and I went in yesterday and I ended up needing a root canal. Walking in, the place is so comforting with its beach theme and so less intimidating than other dentists I've been. Maggie greeted me with a huge smile on her face and I filled out some information and waited to be seen. I was called into the back and Angie, who is just a sweetheart, told me everything they were gonna be doing from start to finish. I met Dr. Pullen who is just as sweet, easy on the eyes as well lol. They numbed me and started the procedure. During the process I felt pain and I asked them to stop and I apologized cause I'm sure they have a schedule to go by and not at all did I feel rushed and they told me they were sorry if I was in pain. They numbed me up a couple times and continued. The whole thing probably took about an hour and a half and I left feeling way more relieved. I felt some pain when I got home and I popped some Advil and as I'm writing this review, my tooth hasn't hurt AT ALL. If anything my jaw is tight from the shots but that's normal. Dr. Pullens office even called me today to check up on me and see how I was feeling. I take back my 10 stars because they deserve 100 stars!! The only drawback is they don't do regular dental work (I would love to be able to deal with her for everything). Dr. Pullen is simply amazing! I had a painful tooth infection and was supposed to leave town for a two week trip. On Sunday before Christmas he arranged antibiotics for me to be able to leave town! I made an appointment for treatment right after my return and it was a great experience. The diagnosis was an infected tooth that needed a root canal. The procedure was easy and pain free, somewhat similar to getting a filling done, only a bit longer timewise. Dr. Pullen's staff was so nice and professional, explained every step and did a great job assisting Dr. Pullen. I have heard a lot of bad stories from people getting a root canal done and how scary and painful it was...... not with Dr. Pullen! Dr. Thomas Bae from Cornerstone Dental Care Referred me to Dr. Pullen for my root canal. Dr. Pullen was able to see me and fix my infected root canal that I had previously had work on when I was a kid. I can honestly say that he was great at making me feel comfortable and pain free with my dental work. Throughout the entire procedure I felt 0.5 pain level in a scale 1-10. I was referred to Dr. Pullen by my Dentist Dr. Larson for a root canal procedure.Although it was a last minute appointment request I was able to be treated. Dr. Pullen was very nice along with the young lady in the room. They were very patient with me even while I was freaking out ! The procedure itself was about 2 hours. Went home did have some swelling for a few hours and went back to work the next day. I didn't have any pain during or after the procure. Ok, I thought, if this endodontist is good enough for my own dentist, then he's definitely the one that I want to perform my root canal. The reviews here are spot on. He was very gentle and I felt NO pain during the duration of the root canal procedure. It was my first root canal, so I was a bit scared, but honestly, it wasn't a big deal at all. I didn't even feel the numbing process...that's how good Dr. Pullen is! The whole procedure probably took an hour, maybe a bit over. I was in and out in under and hour and a half, easily.
