If you are as interested in a real getaway as I was, you should consider talking to Jillian, she is incredibly knowledgable about the area, kind, hospitable, friendly, and she obviously treats everyone like family.

But I wish I would have brought my own knives. The master bedroom was comfy and the 4x8 rain shower was refreshing. What we found extremely disappointing was the lack of a sandy beach. The beach was full of very sharp oyster shells and rocks, some 16 inches high. This was a big concern since our grandkids are 3 and 7. Even with shoes we all have sliced ankles. Thankfully the next door neighbor told us we could use the beach in front of his house which we did. After three vacations around the canal, the grandkids are asking for a lake vacation. Guess grandpa and I will enjoy the canal properties ourselves..... That's a good thing! ;-).

It's a comfy peaceful nights rest for all three of us. An important pet rule; although it should be common sense if you're a responsible pet owner: "don't leave your dog alone in your room!" Service at the front desk and housekeeping are genuinely friendly and accommodating.

Unfortunately, the neighbors upstairs went out to party and came back between 12am and 1am... The first person clomping up the stairs woke me and was slightly annoying, but when the drunk people started arriving giggling, talking loudly, and falling around up the stairs - that was annoying! I don't know if it was the same group or other guests, but after being woke up the 4th or 5th time - I was pretty frustrated and had trouble getting back to sleep. I told the front desk clerk in the morning, and he apologized saying he'd talk to the guests staying upstairs. Instead of enjoying Port Townsend the next day, we just drove the 2 hours home in the morning so we could get some sleep. II doubt I'll splurge (nearly $300 for the sleepless night) at this hotel again due to the noise issues. Maybe the cabins would be a better experience. And likely this was just situational - if all the guests were like the people in the room next to us, we would have had a much better experience. On the downside, as a person "of an age," it was inconvenient that the bathroom wasn't on the same level as the bedroom, especially for those middle-of-the-night trips. I also was surprised that my full balance owing was charged to my credit card two weeks before my arrival. Other than that, this is a lovely place to stay.

Our room was the photography room, which had her old photography equipment and books. There was also an attached full bathroom. She even had cookies on the nightstand. I can't quite recall the other room, but I feel like it was somewhat floral/antique?? with a large tub in the room. We visited a couple years ago, mind you, so I might be wrong. We wandered the gorgeous property, saw the chickens and other animals, hung out on the porch swing, and the best of all was meeting her dog! It was a gorrrrgeous golden retriever that had the reddest fur that I've ever seen on a dog. Ashlyn was great to talk to, and we'd love to stay there again. Oh, and the breakfast was amazing!

Everything from start to finish with this place was just absolutely magical. The owners were in constant communication with us - email at first and then via text to answer any questions we could have possibly had. They were prompt, courteous, and worked with us to make sure that our reservation was perfect. We stayed in the cottage. Let me tell you, it was a miniature paradise for the two of us. The Cottage: The cottage is extremely cozy. There are large windows in the main area offering spectacular views of the property and the island. The bed is one of the most comfortable I've found myself in in a very long time. There is a fireplace heater in the living room, a provided space heater for the bedroom, and a very efficient wall heater for the bathroom. Our whole stay was warm and cozy. Beyond that, the kitchen is fully equipped, there's a washer/dryer in unit, a tub, shower, and plenty of extra bedding/blankets/towels/etc. The small things: Awaiting us upon our arrival was a sign welcoming us with our names on it as well as champagne glasses and sparkling cider (it was new years). Additionally there was some granola and 2 gallons of fresh water provided just in case you're not comfortable drinking/using the double filtered well water. The owners also gave us their number should we need anything extra (including additional water/etc.). They were even kind enough to leave us some handpicked flowers from Pike Place during our stay. The Island/Property: WOW! The property itself sprawls behind and in front of the cottage offering ample opportunity to explore. Beyond that, it's only a nice 30 minute walk to Maxwelton Beach which offers spectacular views. There's still a ton more to do on the island that we hope to get to next trip.
