Came in with some ongoing issues and felt like the doctor gave a good amount of attention to what I was saying. They didn't jump to conclusions and looked at the big picture. Asked things about daily habits and other symptoms I hadn't considered. The nurse was also pretty kind and helped keep things moving. This office does not care for their patients. Once you get in they want you to stay and don't give you your medical record unless you pay $15. I came to this office once so my progress note was only 1 or 2 pages, I also brought in my lab work from other drs. I called to request that copy back but the office still insisted that I have to come in and sign a form then pay $15 before they can give me my records. I ask the front desk and she say even the record only have 1 page they still will charge $15. NO matter what! what the heck!! Zero star!! read more

The Doctor Dhawan is nice. He doesn't talk much and doesn't really make eye contact with you.. but he is very knowledgeable. I don't really like the girls at the front desk. Sitting in the waiting room for several minutes and various appointments...I started to realize how fake they seem to be. However, there is this one girl who is a nurse or an assistant inside. Not a review of Dr. Dhawan's prowess as a doctor! Because I couldn't get past the receptionist who was extremely rude and unprofessional. Wasted so much of my time in gathering my information while I kept asking her to check if she has anything available. No point collecting all my information unless you have an appointment to give me. So I politely ask her to check and she gets extremely annoyed and says - " I don't have anything available - ok- I don't! " What kind of unprofessional behavior is that? Sorry Dr. Dhawan, you may be a good and busy doctor but not for long if this is the kind of staff people have to deal with to get to you! Dr. Dhawan is a MIRACLE WORKER! As a current sufferer of eczema and other skin issues, there was nothing that could put my problems under control. When I was referred to Dr. Dhawan, I expected him to be some typical doctor that would not be able to cure me. But I thought wrong! Appointments with Dr. Dhawan are fast and efficient. He prescribed a gel and lotion that are my LIFE SAVERS. People have been complimenting me on my nice skin and for the first time, I am not scratching like crazy! The only issue I have with Dr. Dhawan is that sometimes he works TOO fast. He forgot to give me a prescription and I had to drive back to get it from him because I knew I would not be able to see him for months. I've been seeing Dr. Dhawan for many years, after a prior dermatologist stopped accepting my insurance. He is thorough, knowledgeable, and has always been very friendly and helpful at my visits. While routine visits have to be scheduled far in advance, I've never had much trouble getting in sooner for more urgent concerns. No complaints. read more

Dr. Dhawan is part of the Center for Dermotolgist. It's a center (an office in Fremont too) with about 3-6 dermatologist. The office if very busy. I see Dr. Sunil. I believe he is one of the busiest doctors there, why because he's GOOD! Why 4 stars? 1. The front desk is very accommodating; they will try their best to get you an appointment. BUT, because there are so many of them, the communication among the doctor and front desk sucks. They booked me an appointment, then called me again to book the same appointment (????) so they lack communication because they are not all on the same page with the patient. 2. Dr. Sunil has this fun dry-humor & smart & make very efficient decisions for you. No multiple small trips. His name might appear to be Indian, but he speaks perfect English, no accents, he looks almost Caucasian. He's direct (but talks kind fast, so you'll have to ask him to repeat, but he's open for questions. He has a good approachable personality. Too bad he's really busy so the visit is short because he's a really good doctor that you can chit-chat about skin/wrinkles/acne about. 3. He knows what's best for you. He prescribed this gel lotion for my acne, he 1st gave me samples to try, make sure it worked, and then I would go get it. Thank god he gave me samples, cause the lotion was $50 ($365 retail) for a tube. So I appreciate that. Also, he discussed various approaches we can do to treat my cancerous mole. Rather having me go back in mutlple time to get it biopsed, we decided to get it out complete in one surgry sesson. So I like his practice, that he discusses your options and then demonstrate to you what is the most optimal. Which means, less office visits = less days to take off for work. 4. It's clean, not dirty. why negative one: the lack of communication of the doctors and front desk (as I mentioned before) and they make you wait 15mins after your scheduled appoinment time. I wish I had made this review a long time ago. The doctor is a good doctor but he, along with his receptionists, are extremely rude and unprofessional. All they care about is your money. I had to get my blister removed so I got an authorization from my primary physician (I have HMO). However, the blister wasn't fully removed so I asked for another appointment but they told me I needed another authorization and pay more copayments. Maybe if Dr. Dawan wasn't so rushed, he would've gotten the wart removed the first time. Another thing, my uncle was late for his appointment by only 5 minutes, which I know happens once in a while, but they still wouldn't see him. The one star is only for Dr Lapointe because she's the only one who actually cares for her patient. read more

I really don't know where to start with this review. From the poor service I received upon check in, the 8 months I used a prescription cream for a skin flaw that never improved but got worse, to them not telling me there was an issue with my insurance until I got to my appointment or always having to wait in an appointment room anywhere from 30 minutes to a hour before Dr. Dhawan came in to see me for maybe ten minutes max. I winded up finding a new Dermatologist in Los Gatos who is open on some Saturdays, very hospitable and knowledgeable. Almost a year of my time on a skin flaw that never improved... read more

Their billing department is RUDE and DISORGANIZED. Front desk didn't allow me to see doctor until co-pay had paid. They have never sent bill to us and expected us to know the balance . We have 10% co-pay of the charge which is different from one visit to another visit. Their technology is out of date, you can't go on line to pay bill or review your account and they expected customer to know how much we still owe. From office in Milpitas to billing office in Fremont, there is no link together for the same account. We give them credit card number to pay for co-payment, they charged twice for the same co-payment, one charged by Milpitas office and one charged by Fremont office.They even told me that I couldn't book any further appointments with Dr. Dhawan until it's been paid. We sent letter request for a refund they didn't read the letter that we sent with attached receipts of payment. and I called billing department, they didn't see the double charge which I had copy of receipts (?). We didn't receive any refund yet. I contacted billing supervisor, Jaime (Genie); She is very RUDE! . Be careful to give out credit card to that office. It's easy to pay out but it's very hard to get a refund. Don't recommend this office .Too much work to deal with billing office read more

When I met Dr. Dhawan the first time, I had 'pimples' all over my face and I regretted not taking a family portrait since I feared my face was scarred for life. This was almost 8 years ago. My PCP recommended Dr. Dhawan. With just one visit, he diagnosed my problem and got it fixed within a month - initially with stronger medication and then toned it down gradually and now I seldom have the topical medicine! He is very caring, friendly but still vey professional. I would strongly recommend Dr. Dhawan to anyone that has acute dermatology issues and want miracles to happen. Incidentally, I read all the comments about the front desk. I also had complaints about them and I mentioned it to the doctor. Of late, I believe they have become much better. They also send you an email reminder, in addition to the phone reminder, two days in advance. (I wish I could get the reminder a week in advance but I try to have it on my calendar and set myself a week's reminder.) read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Dhawan for a while now and have been very pleased by my results. I went to him for really bad acne and he is a miracle worker in making my skin 99% better (I still have a breakout now and then nothing too bad) i have to admit he is always booked a few months out (means he must be good) but in a emergency he will fit you in. I had a spider bite that got worse over the weekend and urgent care (only place open) advised me to go to a dermatologist ASAP. I called Monday morning and he made sure to see me within a hour. I have been referring Dr. Dhawan patients for twenty years. I am an acupuncturist, so I see many patients, and always refer to Dr. Dhawan for dermatology. I have seen him over the years as a patient and found him very good and very caring. Everyone that I have sent to him has come back with positive reviews. Dr. Sunil Dhawan has been my doctor for a long time. I am very thankful that he cured my dark pigmentation on my face. He is a genius, kind and a very good doctor. The only complaint I have to bring up is his staff who is in charge of the appointment. She is RUDE, BLUNT and very UNPROFESSIONAL. Certainly, I will not have her in our clinic. Early August, I made a phone call hoping to get the two appointments for my son and myself on the same day. She spent the first 10 minutes telling me that " oh..your son missed the appointment on .....that day and no one called to notify......then she went on and told me that my chart was no longer available as my last visit with Dr. Jacob, who was on at the time, was in 1999; I needed to see Dr. Dhawan and he was out of the country. In addition, her attitude was UN-CALLED FOR. " Do you have insurance, bluntly? Do you reside in the same address, bluntly? Finally, I ran out of my patience and asked her if she was able to give us an appointment or not. She said:' absolutely...it will be in November!" She did not bother ask why I needed to see Dr. Dhawan; if this is an urgent matter, or if I can wait that long? By the way, a clinic suppose to keep a patient's record for at least five to 10 years. My last visit was in 1999, and she said my chart was no longer available. I regret not able to keep the appointment for my son then and really I could not recall what happened and that was the first time he missed. Often time, our patients forgot to show up due to many reasons: either they are old and forgetful or they do not have a ride...or they just forgot. Regardless, we would always treat our patients with respect and in a professional fashion.. I am sure each clinic has a policy for "no show" appointments. I understand the importance of keeping the appointment, but sometimes one can't due to his or her circumstances. The worse is to bill us for a no show. I do not have problem paying for the fees, but I will not tolerate a staff like her. She will be fired if she works for me. In addition, I had to wait for almost 10 minutes before I could speak to this rude receptionist. I do not recall her name, but If I speak to her in person, I will certainly recognize her voice. I called in on August 9th and the appointments that she would give us for for November. I told her I will call Dr. Dhawan when he is back from his vacation and she said: " he will be back on August 5th." She also tried to book my appointment with Dr. Jacob and I told her I only want to see Dr. Dhawan as he is my doctor. Please do not get confuse with my review. Dr. Sunil Dhawan is indeed a very good dermatologist in town. I hope Dr. Dhawan can read this review so he has an idea what is going on in the front office. I know doctor Dhawan is busy and most often time does not pay attention to his staff besides providing care for his patient. By the way, the front desk people give me an impression that it is all about $$$ rather than providing service for patients who needed help from Dr. Dhawan. Sunil Dhawan is an excellent doctor (5*) although he does seem quite rushed (and may multi-task between patients). However, their billing department is extremely RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL. I had called to request refund of copay overpayment (since I had maxed out out-of-pocket expense for insurance). The billing lady told me I hadn't made any payments the last two visits. I said I had copay receipt. She told me to fax it in. I asked how they can not have a record of this? She then said it was applied to my last visit, which I didn't make any payment. I asked 1) why she's changing her story and 2) neither visit should require any payment by me. I then told her the Explanation of Benefits showed full payment by insurance and to clarify herself. She became irate and would not let me get a word in. Then when I tried to over talk her, she said I was rambling and hung up. I called back to billing dept and no one answered. I called back again and spoke to front desk who got me the office manager who listened to my story. This rude billing lady needs to be replaced. Tip: When you speak to anyone there, get their name. The office manager seems reasonable, but I couldn't give her the billing lady's name. Per other reviews, there seems to be a lot of issues with Dr. Dhawan's billing dept. I hope he can fix this issue in his otherwise great practice. read more

My son, 17 years old, had had a severe acne for about 1 year before he met Dr. Dhawan. Acne has run in my family for at least 4 generations! I tried different over-the-counter acne creams for him, but they did not work! I was introduced Dr. Dhawan by my niece who also had a severe acne before she got treated with Dr. Dhawan. Although Dr. Dhawan spent just minutes with my son for the first visit, he prescribed some creams for my son, those have really worked on him after a couple of weeks. Dr. Dhawan is amazing! My son had the 2nd visit yesterday. He scheduled an extra visit between the scheduled visits, in case my son needs it (or we can cancel if my son does not need it, he explained). He is very thorough, knowledgeable and responsible. Also, his staff is very professional too. Thank you Doctor for helping those who have been suffering from acne. My daughter's pediatrician recommended me Dr. Dhawan. My daughter was taken by my husband to her first appointment with Dr. Dhawan. After my daughter seeing Dr Dhawan for the first time, my husband decided to schedule an appointment for him due to some dark spots on his face. Two days before his and my daughter's appointment, some unprofessional and rude woman called to confirm. Since my husband was not at home, I confirmed for my daughter and tried to confirm for him, but the inefficient woman told me that they did need the confirmation from him. I said: "tell me at what time and I tell you if he can". She insisted telling me: "no, I can't. What time can I call him?" I just told her: "whenever you want to waste the time." This is the first time I see a very disorganized doctor's office that rather lose patients by doing these. My husband has had the same dentist for more than ten years, and they always accept the confirmation from me. Dr. Dhawan might be a good doctor like a few of them, but he is not a genius, especially by not keeping an eye on his staff performance. Also, one last thing. To all the ladies whose husband visit Dr Dhawan's office, watch out this. My husband is characterized for being a polite person and very nice guy with everyone he knows and for that reason, a "woman" named Malalay who works in that office got confused with his attention. She started texting and calling my husband from her cell phone mornings and afternoons, knowing that he was married. When I discovered this and called her, she told me that she was someone he met at a bar in Milpitas. Hello! ... I lived in Milpitas for five years and there is not bars there, except the one at "El Torito" restaurant. She also told me that my husband was the one that was harassing her, when I actually looked at the cell phone statement and noticed that she was the one who called him first. Of course my husband said that his mistake was to call her back every time she called him. I know him, he is too nice and talkative; plus she is way older than my husband and I am younger than him, how can she dare to tell me he was interested on her when I saw clear evidences. As a result, watch out ladies with your husband who visit Dr Dhawan's office. He is a good doctor, but he should get rid off such of unprofessional staff. I've been seen by Dr. Dhawan since about 1991 with good results. He's courteous, professional, interested in the welfare of his patients, and yes, often cool and efficient with his time. As to the reviews that deny him as a medical professional multiple stars because of a problem with the front office, I think that's wrong. Ding him a star maybe for problems with the front office (I've personally never had problems with them). But knocking a top notch dedicated expert more than that doesn't seem right to me. read more
