This journey involved learning all about birthing centers, different types of midwives, different requirements/restrictions with each scenario, etc etc. We visited various birthing centers in Dallas and the surrounding areas but ultimately, and to our great satisfaction and appreciation... we were connected to Sweet Pea Midwifery and Olivia Delavega. We felt a huge sense of relief, because for my wife and I, having our baby in the comfort, energy, ambiance and convenience of our home checked all the boxes... Olivia, her team and her network were wonderful. Our experience with Olivia, Tabby and Iana (our Doula; within Olivia/Tabby's Network) was incredible. Well organized, cohesive, logical pregnancy plan coupled with a very informative and great emotional support structure from Iana. At no time did we feel pressured to do anything. Free will and free choice should be pervasive throughout our lives, but more and more it feels like some of those freedoms are slipping away. That wasn't the case with Sweet Pea Midwifery. We chose to have a 100% natural, zero pain intervention birth at home. Old School style... like they did for 1000's of years. At each step and with each choice we discussed the pros, the cons, the risks of each with Olivia and Tabby, asking countless questions, and in the end we chose the path that made the most sense for us and felt fully supported by the whole team. Although my birth was incredibly fast, Olivia was such a help to me. Not necessarily because of what she did, but how she encouraged me and empowered me to birth my baby. I have had 3 babies previously (with different providers in a different state) and not once did I feel confident taking the reins during the actual pushing. I always waited for other providers to tell me it was okay to start pushing, but with Olivia, I was confident and comfortable enough to let me body do the work and rest in that. Even when she gave me advice, they were more helpful suggestions than commands that I felt in previous births. I so appreciated her aid and reassuring presence. Postpartum care was also phenomenal and our whole family felt very loved and cared for. Olivia and Tabby have become friends and if we were to have any more babies, I would love to be in their care again. Thank you, Sweet Pea Midwifery, for such a beautiful experience that I will treasure forever.
