The shrimp and mushrooms were good quality though. Do NOT order the Hühnerfleisch-Suppe mit Kokosmilch (#1), it is supposed to be Tom Kha Gai but it's just plain bad. bland, bland, bland...and I asked for spicy. doesn't taste like natural coconut milk either. since it's right around the corner, i'll give it some more chances with other dishes. So, it's a Saturday evening, it's getting cooler and it's raining and one cannot be bothered to…read morecook. So naturally, one looks for something nearby. My partner looked this up on Yelp and we walked there. In the rain [insert sarcastic yay here]. We sat down inside at the front of the restaurant, later though, as I watched the waiters, I realised that there was probably more room if you want down a side corridor, towards the back. Also for sunny summer days (which, in case you've not realised, are definitely over ), there is communal seating out the front. So, the menu is pretty simple. Not too many things on it, but that's a good sign, as means they've got focus and if they're cooking the same thing over and over again, they should be experts. My parter ordered the Dorade (sea bream €9), I had the Backfisch (flour-coated fish, deep fried €7), we shared a fish soup (€4) and a Sprite (€1.70). The soup was basically a vegetable soup with bits of fish in it, but it tasted good. Plus it was good as it was cold outside. My partner was well-pleased with his dish, the whole fish was grilled well, had a side salad and fried potatoes. He said he would go there again - this is definitely a rare statement as he is German and his expectations are on another level, somewhere beyond. Now, keep in mind I wasn't expecting too much from my dish, but the fish was fresh and well-cooked, the coating was light and every bite was delicious and crispy! There was also Remoulade - tartar sauce - on the table, as well as salad dressing, salt, pepper AND chilli flakes I know it's just Sprite but it was in a glass bottle, and it is my believe that such drinks taste better when they're stored in glass rather than plastic. I looked around at the other dishes people were ordering and grilled whole fish were definitely popular. Also big families that were there took advantage and ordered platters of things and all seemed full and satisfied. I will definitely go there again and I recommend that you do too, if you want a decent serve of seafood and some sides, at a good price point. If you went anywhere else, you'd probably pay double! Some people might get all snobby and be like "Gallus is dingy, I'm not going to go there..." blah blah blah. But every place in the world has hidden gems. Don't judge a book by its cover!

Only 30 people can sit at the tables but no one can sit at the bar. I've come here before and they always had a fantastic piano player and it was a fun environment. Now, it is just boring. The two stars is for the service, which is attentive. Zero stars for the cost of the drinks. The cost of the drinks was undisclosed to our group until the bill arrived. €22 for a small stoli martini, which is equivalent to about US$25, is outrageous. Take a look at some of the other charges. I have included the receipt so you will know what you will be in for.... €14for a simple small Manhattan? It was mostly vermouth. €11 for a small shot glass of Sambuca? One scotch, which was approximately 1 ounce, if that, in a glass filled with stones, was €18! My friends were remarking how the stones seemed to absorb all of the scotch! Really! The bill came to €83 and when we looked at the transfer to American dollars on the charge card, it's just about $100. I could've eaten a good dinner at the restaurant for that price. The drinks for really small servings. It's not like you are getting sizeable drinls. The issue I have with this place is they do not tell you what the cost of the drinks are in advance. and there was no drink menus provided on seating. They just ask what you want to order with no menu in sight. This is not a large city in America, such as New York, but they are charging equivalent prices. If you go, you definitely want to ask what you will be charged in advance . After being charged US$100 for just a few drinks and a couple coffees, we felt cheated. There was nothing special about the drinks or the environment. We won't be back.
