Also, the clinic participates with my dental insurance, however I received a bill as if I was a self-pay. The issue was corrected only after I pointed it out, mailed only the correct discounted amount, and told the clinic that I could report this to my dental insurance and the insurance commissioner. As contrast, I went to another local periodontal clinic (near Gunbarrel) where the two doctors truly listened, showed genuine concern for my comfort and needs, and made the entire experience positive and reassuring. I left feeling valued and confident in their care.

For example, a company like Cigna might only need to pay $800 for a $1400 procedure. For that reason, North River Perio prefers patients to pay out of pocket instead of using their dental insurance. To that end, as soon as your procedure is over, while you are still woozy and seeing stars, they will hustle you into a room and threaten you with a collection agency for the full amount before your insurance company has even been billed. 3. Dr. McBrayer's staff could not hold down jobs at Waffle House. They completely lack basic human empathy. I called ahead and then came into the office because I had developed a dry socket after McBrayer pulled a tooth and did a bone graft. I was suffering unimaginably. His staff wouldn't even look at it. I had to get my regular dentist to diagnose and address the problem, which cost me more money. If you have cash to burn and don't mind being treated disrespectfully by Dr. McBrayer's callous staff, then by all means, make an appointment with North River Perio. On the other hand, if you try to get the most for your money and like to be treated decently, please don't even consider North River Perio in Hixson, Tennessee.
