History
Established in 2009.
SunDog House was not originally a 'green' house. We took an ordinary Caribbean home and made it into a model of sustainable accommodation with rescued 'crucian' canine companions. Initially offered as a 3 bedroom vacation rental, we have recently moved back in to care for the property and 4-legged residents, but continue to share our serene, private, pastoral South Shore paradise with guests.
Meet the Business Owner: Michael D.
A massage therapist in the Caribbean since 1998, first on St. Thomas, then managing a spa on St. Croix, Michael merged his business and life with wife Terry in 2005.
Together they upgraded and out-fitted their south shore home with solar hot water and enough photo-voltaic panels, with inverter and battery back-up, to supply 100% of their electrical needs. In 2009 they were ready to open SunDog House, St. Croix's first sustainable solar vacation rental.
After a St. Croix sabbatical, spent opening a boutique spa on Saba in the Dutch Caribbean, they are back on St. Croix caring for dogs and sharing SunDog House with guests in a new capacity.
When he's not busy rescuing dogs and cats, working with endangered sea turtles, entertaining guests, providing massages, snorkeling, diving, or hiking, Michael can be found tinkering with classic diesel Land Rovers, preparing for their next Sustainable St. Croix Adventure.
