What an amazing find! Just needed a quick night before taking the ferry over to Virgin Gorda- and WOW! We want to come back for weeks! The rooms are clean, bed comfortable, a/c works great, the water pressure is impressive for Island life - and THE FOOD! The views! The views are BREATHETAKING! The precious husband & wife owners Couldn't be cuter, kinder or more hospitable. We had an amazing fresh and flavorful dinner on property of line caught swordfish & wagu steak, with the most delicious handmade orecchiette in some sort of tastebud tantalizing beet & browned butter sauce. The deconstructed cheesecake was exquisite as well! Make a trip just for dinner alone! Breakfast was included and a true delight. Normally, you find some stale breads and a weak fruit spread. We had eggs, sausage fruit and toast- a pleasant surprise! Do yourself a favor, stay away from the hustle and bustle of the cruise ship port, and feel the trade wind breezes, & stay at Island view guesthouse!

This is probably the best stay my person and I have ever experienced . Fantastic views, homemade breakfast every morning but best of all are host Beth and Ron. They went out of their way to make sure we were always taken care of including driving us into town on occasion, truly amazing. Keep living the dream Beth and Ron. Hope to see you again. Jesse and Dalinda room 2. Stay: Feb 26- March 4th.

My husband surprised me with a trip in St.Thomas. When we arrived at the lake house view hotel we were greeted with a very pleasant and warm welcome. The whole family was so polite and generous from the owners son, cute pets, and their beautiful grandmother. We felt so at home and spent more time with them in their beautiful upstair veranda "huge" patio overlooking the island. The view is breathtaking! Exotic green birds fly by the down stairs sitting area which also has two swinging egg chairs, outdoor furniture, and a pool. The honor bar, outdoor garden walkway, and comfortable bed was everything. We brought some island food before we arrived and we asked the host if we could use her microwave. When she came back she had placed our meals which were originally in to-go containers on to beautiful plates and gave us utensils. We watched tropical birds fly by as we watched the beautiful sunrise. We relaxed on the huge veranda patio and accidentally drifted off to sleep. We had plans to explore the island but we enjoyed the comfort of the hotel so much we ended up relaxing at the island view hotel the whole trip. Thank you lake view hotel see you in Oct!

The views are incredible

Nothing like feeling as though you are right at home. Casual atmosphere overlooking the Charlotte Amalie harbor, beautiful mountain breezes and an honor bar. Thirsty? Get up and make yourself a drink, no waiting for the waitress. The steaks were perfectly cooked with a nice bark on the outside. The asparagus was perfectly cooked and the bakers were awesome. Simple home cooked meal with a spectacular view! We live here in St Thomas and can say for certain, if you are craving a great steak, this is the best place to get one! Thank you Maxine for great service and for recommending the special Filet tonight! Yummmmm.

Small but well curated menu offering beef, chicken and fish dishes. The mahi and ribeye are amazing, great salad bar otpion and honor system serve and mix your own drinks! Breathtaking views.

Wow! Where do i start?! This place is absolutely beautiful! The service from Josh and Harold made the trip! They were available for assistance with taxis, questions, friendly chats and even provided us with suggestions on the island. The room we stayed in was so cute- it was spacious, had a little kitchenette, and a balcony with an amazing view. Keep in mind that the water is solar powered (i think) so the hot water is prime at certain times during the day. We needed cash on many occasions and our atm card was not working at the local bank: no worries as Josh provided us with cash and all we did was cashapp them! So helpful! The common space was so inviting and comfortable to hang out to eat, drink or when not at the pool or in the room. There was a honor bar which worked seamlessly and breakfast every morning. (Bagels, english muffins, oatmeal, coffee and teas) just what you need to start the morning! Beware: nothing opens before about 10-11 am! Folks are truly on Island time, so dont be surprised! Overall, this experience was beautiful, comfortable and relaxing. It suited me and my partner perfectly! Will be back again!

So happy to have discovered this restaurant through social media, so I made a reservation before arriving in St Thomas! It is a lovely, casual restaurant with outstanding entrees prepared by the owner chef on the outdoor grill. I had the filet mignon (cooked perfectly rare) and my friend had blackened mahi, which she described as delicious. We each chose the baked potato and grilled asparagus as our sides. Simple menu, executed flawlessly. We enjoyed the fresh salad bar and the honor bar. Arriving for the 6:00 pm seating, we were able to enjoy the beautiful sunset view of the harbor. This is a true gem of a restaurant on St. Thomas. Worth the ride up the very winding roads!

I stayed here overnight after a week island hopping on a sailboat. I wanted, and got, a clean,…read morecomfortable room with air conditioning, lots of hot water, privacy, and a bed with clean sheets. Unlike most hotels on the island, they do not require a 2 night minimum stay. I had an 8' X 8' balcony with an unbelievable view; had I spent more time there it would have been a great place to read and sip rum drinks. The neighborhood feels a little sketch at night - I felt better taking a taxi (although several other travelers mentioned that they walked around at night without trouble), but had no worries during the day. The owners have trusted cab providers and are happy to call them for you. The hotel itself is quite secure, with a gate to the hotel itself from the street your room key unlocks. The cruise ship port is about 2 miles away; the "downtown" with tent vendors "Emancipation Park" is about half a mile, and French Town, with some restaurants, is also about 2 miles. Off topic, *DO* eat at Jen's Creole Cafe near Emancipation Park for an unbelievably good meal. Please see my review for details. The owners are a couple from Colorado who spend 3 months in the States and 9 in the USVI. They and their staff are extremely friendly. Do note that unless you make arrangements, the front desk is only manned between 8:00 and 10:30; and 5:00 to 8:30 PM. They offer a free "Welcome drink" at their patio bar and a complimentary breakfast (packaged muffins, yogurt, bagels, fruit, cereal). The view from the patio is unbelievable...the photos on their website do not do it justice. All in all, I would not call this a "resort" but it was an excellent choice for a clean, comfortable, safe bed. I expect to stay here again next time I go sailing.

I stayed here on my way back from camping on Jost Van Dyke in the BVIs. All I wanted was a hot…read moreshower and a real bed after 4 days of camping on the beach, but I got a whole lot more. First, the place is beautiful. Up on a steep hill overlooking the harbor of St. Thomas, I could stay here for days and never actually leave. There's an amazing bar and balcony where they serve drinks starting at 5pm and breakfast in the morning. And below that, is a nice patio with comfy furniture and cornhole! Yes, cornhole! Our bartender was so great -- delicious drinks, great conversation...but the best part was our bar-mate, Bob the cat. There are a few cats and dogs that live on the premises and they are very relaxed and sweet animals. Definitely made the stay a lot more fun and comfortable. Second, the owners and staff are just delightful. I wanted to quit my job and stay for a few extra days just so I could chat with them and become their best friend. They are truly wonderful people and they make you feel very welcome, almost like family. Third, the rooms were very nice. Large rooms with private baths (smaller rooms with shared baths are available too, and are cheaper), comfortable bed, air conditioning if you need it and the softest bath towels I've ever felt. It's well worth the price, and this place is one of the cheaper options on the island. The neighborhood is a little dangerous, so take cabs to and fro at night. Don't walk the dark alleys and staircases unless you want to get mugged. But once you're at the Miller Manor, you're safe and sound -- and quite frankly, you don't really need to leave. Just grab a seat at the bar, order a painkiller and pet Bob the cat when he jumps onto the barseat next to you. Enjoy the view and hang out. Thanks Miller Manor! I'll be back. And next time, I'm staying for a couple of days and starting a cornhole tournament.

We stayed in the Malibu Suite - the room was incredibly comfortable, had great air conditioning, and wasn't noisy at all when time to sleep. We loved the balcony outside - it had both a table and chairs as well as a "bed" swing - I'd call it a bench swing, but it was much larger than that and more than comfortable for two. We loved our daily breakfasts with them. They let you pick a breakfast time, and then set you up outside on the balcony so you can view the water while you eat. It is so relaxing and the food is both delicious and plenty to get your day started. It's also super conveniently located. We picked Red Hook and Two Sandals because it was right by the ferry dock to St John as well as centrally located to all the places we wanted to go while on the island. Very easy to call a taxi for pick up from here, but just check with them when calling to see if they'll drive up the hill or not - some taxis will expect you to meet them at the bottom of the hill. Highly recommend staying here while enjoying your time on St Thomas!

For an extra fee, they picked us up from the airport, which was awesome and made the start of our vacation stress free. The spot is close enough to walk to Red Hook (if you're adventurers like us) or a cheap taxi. Either way, you make it down within minutes, and they have EVERYTHING here - food, shops, and a ferry to St. John. It was the perfect spot. If you went the other way, it's a quick walk to Secret Harbor Beach, which, WOW. It's not crowded, white sand beaches, and beautiful sunsets. Highly recommend. The room was initially smaller than we anticipated, but it wasn't bad, especially since we were barely there. Very clean, quiet, and accommodating. The owners were always around, and always available by text for the best experience. I've seen a few reviews about no hot water, this isn't true, it just takes a few minutes to warm up. So don't listen to those. I saved the best for last. THE BREAKFAST. HOLY COW. It's home made, fresh, and SO delicious. It was SO worth it for this every morning on their balcony over looking Red Hook Bay. We loved our experience here. Highly recommend.

My checking staff was really cool, she demonstrated the unlocking of the outside door and when it wouldn't unlock maintenance arrived right away for her. They were even more helpful when I realized I left my purse after a light on the town. They were able to locate and and return it to me by mail. I definitely recommend this place. I wish they had another by Coki Beach.

Alright well, I'm not exactly proud to say that I stayed here during my recent visit to St. Thomas…read moreand the Virgin Islands, but for what it's worth, Midtown Guest House was just fine. Let me clarify....for myself it fulfilled it's purpose of being a cheap place to stay....maybe the cheapest in all of St. Thomas outside of being in a hostile w/ shared rooms. I'm not embarrassed to admit that I stayed here. But I will concede....it's located in one of the more rundown and shady areas of St. Thomas. At night, yeah...I was quite nervous to leave anything in my rental car. I carried all my belongings with me inside to my room. I mean....I knew what I was getting myself into. But for me, and for me being just a simple/casual person, I has accepting of staying here at the Midtown Guest House. Some good points....it's centrally located within the heart of the downtown area and shopping district. It was a quick ride to and from anywhere I wanted to go.....including popular restaurants at night. My bed and room was adequate. Although it's an old fashioned, throwback type of hotel/lodge....my room was clean. I didn't find any bugs. I had my own private bathroom. And I had a queen sized bed which was comfortable. Inside this place and the lobby/check-in area, it ABSOLUTELY needed a remodeling!!! And they did display "pardon our appearance" as according to them...they were in upgrading/construction mode. Although my pictures won't show it, but the whole central main corridor was very worn down and debilitating. When I first arrived here I was in shock. But I could tell the place (maybe back in the day) once had a charm to itself, like it had elements of a cozy little French quarter. I could sense, once, Midtown Guest House had potential. But now it was a little scary/shocking to walk about and simply just get to my room. And...my bedroom was located on the 3rd floor which I had to climb the stairs for. That was annoying but I didn't bring much personal belongings with me. The lobby/office was located on the 2nd floor. The gentleman who checked me was friendly and nice. I had no issues with anything. He gave me a permit to leave on my dashboard to park outside in front of the hotel overnight. For parking, there were maybe 6- 8 spots available at the front main entrance. Luckily for me when I returned at the end of my days and evenings, I found a space available. In terms of views looking out the window from my room, no shot, no chance.....there was no view whatsoever (not like I was expecting anything anyways). Also, there was air conditioning in my room which worked fine. There was an overhead fan as well. The shower had hot water. I left the window to my room open for some fresh air for both nights during my stay, but wow.....unfortunately both EARLY EARLY mornings there was an alpha rooster who cock-a-doodled all morning long!!! Wow, I love animals, but that was very disturbing, lol. Also, when I ventured out of the hotel during the daytime, I again took all my stuff with me into my car. Actually, I could have left things in my room as it actually felt relatively safe inside in my room. But, I decided not to take any chances. One other thing, I did a lot of researching around for the best accommodations to stay while in St. Thomas and exploring around the Virgin Islands. There were some nice places and very doable hotels to stay at ranging in prices roughly from around $125ish+ per night - to about $175ish+.....where at these prices I found some very respectable and picturesque lodging to choose from. Ultimately, and since I knew I would be hurrying around for most of my trip....like the saying goes....I only needed this Midtown Guest House to "put my head down at night" and this place served that purpose. Had I been with a significant other or family members, I certainly would have chosen more upscale quarters without a doubt. In the end I booked Midtown Guest House on Priceline for $90 per night for 2 nights = $180...and that's with taxes included. I was satisfied and grateful that I didn't face any problems during my stay here. I mostly had a good night's sleep for both evenings and my vacation went according to plan. For those who are price conscious looking for the most affordable hotel/motel in St. Thomas, then Midtown Guest House is definitely for you.

Be forewarned that it is…read morea hostel type environment, there is a bar/restaurant in the courtyard so it may be a bit noisy if they have a band playing (often), and there are a couple of private rooms but most beds are in dorms. Ok, lets go. The staff here is very laid back but very helpful. The long term guests often pitch in to help (shout out to Marsha!) with the check in/out procedures when the two owners (Abigail and Eric) have to be offsite. That said, the owners leave their cell phone numbers posted along with other useful numbers (taxis, airport transport, Wi-Fi passwords) on a board in the common kitchen area. They do ask that you provide an approximate arrival time so that they are around to check you in. I stayed in the male dorm with 7 other people. We did have our own bathroom for our dorm so that helped with keeping wait times down for showers. All exterior doors have computer pass code locks which is a plus in my mind. There is a full size kitchen for all to use with some freebies such as coffee and tea. The dorms have air conditioning which is a blessing in the tropics. They have a computer for use in the common area (did you know the Virgin Islands have some of the highest internet speeds in the United States?) and a book of tips and info about the island. The safari taxis stop across the street if going to the east side of the island/Red Hook, or a little down the street if going to to the west side of the island/Charlotte Amalie. The guesthouse is located in Tillet Gardens which is a little collection of shops and eateries surrounding a courtyard. Worth browsing around. They are also down the street from a modern strip mall with a supermarket, K Mart, and a full service post office. The only Walgreens Pharmacy on the Virgin Islands is located a few hundred feet down the road. Good place to stock up essentials and they have really cheap liquor also. The downsides if you can call them that are that you are a bit away from Charlotte Amalie and Red Hook so plan on a little transit time. There is a small parking lot if you have your own car but it is shared with the other businesses so parking might be tight. As I mentioned there is a restaurant in the courtyard that often has music so if your windows are open then you may have some noise into the night. They do have a supply of earplugs if you need them. Finally they are slowly changing their name to Tillet Hostel but things are taking a while due to the paperwork. So you may see them going by both names if you are attempting to find them online etc. If you like the hostel style of traveling then you will love this place.

After inquiring about hostels in the St. Thomas forum, or "spontaneous, budget accommodation" as I…read morereferred to it, someone responded by telling me that the only place that sounded even close to what I was looking for was called Rhoda's Guest House in Tillett Gardens. That wasn't exactly the answer I was looking for, but I decided to look it up anyways. I came across their Facebook page and started reading about their story and checking out the pictures. I could immediately tell that this place was uniquely awesome, so I e-mailed them for more information. I got a response right away from the property manager, Abigail, with all of the rates and availability and such. Everything sounded fantastic, so it was a go. Now, fast forward to present time as I sit on the plane back to the mainland... The name of this charming little place may be Rhoda's Guest House, but you are treated more like family than a guest. The hospitality that my friend and I received from Eric (owner) and Abigail (manager) was second to none. We've never felt more welcome at a hotel, hostel, guesthouse, or any other type of accommodation than we did at Rhoda's. As Abigail will explain during your tour of the property, nearly every square foot of the guest house has been completely renovated. All of the guest rooms and bathrooms are super clean and spacious, and there is A/C throughout the entire house. The kitchen is huge and fully equipped with refrigerator, freezer, stove, oven, microwave, and dishwasher. There is also a little outdoor patio with chairs and a grill. Perhaps the most fascinating thing about Rhoda's is its place in the rich, artistic history of Tillett Gardens and St. Thomian culture. I would love to be able to explain exactly what I mean by that, but unfortunately that part of our stay is not something that I could possibly put into words. The only way to truly experience something that unique and enchanting is to see it for yourself. That being said, I strongly encourage ALL travelers, whether you're on a budget or not, to check this place out. Aside from the fact that you're likely to pay more per day for valet parking at a resort than you will per night at Rhoda's, you're guaranteed two things: an unforgettable island experience and the friendship of anyone and everyone you meet inside the realm of Tillett Gardens and Rhoda's Guest House. Cheers!

One thing to note is that the hotel is near a busy tour stop, so in the mornings you'll hear tourist trucks dropping people off. For us light sleepers it shook us out of rim sleep. We thought a bulldozer was upon us. So be mindful of that. Overall, it's just right for a one-night stay before heading out on an adventure. One small thing we did like is the sign reminding guests not to place luggage on the beds.

Private area, waaaaaaaaay up on the hill top. It can be walked, but down is much easier than up…read more We walked up 2 of 3 nights. You'll need to get a car taxi to drive you up, a van will not. The road is right by Banco Popular, 1/2 mile up with an arched gate. They have a one bedroom cottage, as well as the studio. There's just about everything you need to be comfortable, spices, plates, pots, pans, a charcoal grill, shampoos, beach chairs, beach towels, iron, suntan lotion, aloe gel, and whatever anyone else leaves behind, but the internet is spotty. We were lucky enough to be left with some coffee, rum and beer. We left a potato, eggs, pita bread, waters, beer, shampoo. The room is a little outdated, with a unique flair. Max and Chris are nice, but not intrusive. The night we went to use the grill, the cottage had taken it to use. I contacted Max and she left to get another at the Home Depot. She said they'd been thinking of doing it anyhow. So we got a new grill. :). Very kind. The view is spectacular and being at this elevation, the breeze is so wonderful. You can hear music from Duffys, roosters and the ferry horns.

In just a few minutes you can walk into Red Hook for shopping, dinner, drinks and night life or catch the ferries to St. John and the BVI. The spacious porch is a perfect way to enjoy your first cup of coffee or to sit back in the evening and watch the colors change over the islands with a cool beverage in your hand as the breeze passes by. My husband Chris and I have lived on St. Thomas for over 25 years. He came to dive, I came to sail. We discovered we both had a love of the water and the Caribbean life style. Chris built this house on the top of the hill, and now we have expanded it to accommodate guests who want to enjoy the Caribbean life style.

Unit D8 warning- Rigid Policies & Aug USVI weather don't mix!…read more We were all set to enjoy 3 days at Jennifer's unit (D8) booked through VRBO/Home Away. This unit has a strict cancellation policy (100% refund if cancelled 14 days in advance, 50% if 7 days out). The location and unit looked great, but unlucky for us Tropical Storm Grace blew up out of nowhere (well after the cancellation window) on the weekend we were to arrive on STT from STX. What we didn't realize is that even a minor storm like this one causes all inter-island travel to get cancelled - no ferry, sea plane or small aircraft in or out for a day and a half. By the time we could have arrived on St Thomas, we would have had one day left of our visit so we cancelled. While Jennifer was very responsive as we kept her updated on our situation, she was also very rigid in adhering to the no refund policy... including charging us for the club access fees and cleaning fees (even though we never set foot on the property, and presumably she didn't incur these expenses). VRBO suggested requesting "flexible dates" which essentially meant asking the owner for a credit (not refund) to rebook for later time, but she refused. We did not have travel insurance, but I do not believe it would have helped since it was a minor storm snd no evacuation was required. My advice: If you are island hopping during summer months when weather can change, avoid this property and any others with strict cancellation policies. Oh, and I'm personally not going to be using VRBO in the future as they offered no help for this kind of situation to either the owners or the travelers - we've had much better customer service with AirBnB.

The facilities are probably a little older and they don't provide stuff like turndown service/ fresh sheets/soap or shampoo etc. Also our Cable TV didn't work but they did have a ton of VHS tapes and DVDs in the living room On the other hand, if you brought your own stuff and are willing to "rough it" (not really) a little bit this place is perfect. The condos are huge.. as big as our apartment in Boston. It has central air, 2 bathrooms both with full showers. The apartment is stocked with towels, dishes, 2 TVs, a queen bed, and guest bed, 2 couches, a full kitchen with a gas stove a dishwasher and fridge. They even provide little charcoal grills out front if you want to make some burgers. The beach is about 50 feet from our room and they provide free chairs and beach towels. Water is crystal clear and the beach is nice white sand with little to no rocks. There is also a pool but we haven't been there yet. This place is about 1 mile from Red Hook which is where you can find a bunch of great bars and restaurants. One piece of advice- Crystal cove has no food/drink facilities so make sure you bring some stuff or be ready to head to red hook if you need some grub. You can either take the open air buses to get around- they drive by ever 15 min and cost ~4$ or you can rent a car. I would highly recommend the car because its much more convenient, you have AC, and you can explore the island a little bit. Don't worry, driving isn't as intimidating as it looks. P.S- you can request units- ours was D22-highly recommend!
