This place was exactly what we were looking for. Off the grid, no people, amazing views, clean room with a mini fridge and microwave. Looks like there used to be a pretty cool restaurant but it is closed now. It's not fancy, but neither are we. Very short drive to nederland, which is our favorite town in the area. All I can say to the positive is the room was clean and the water was hot. The place is falling apart. Booked a King for two nights three weeks in advance. We wanted to hang out and chill between two longer work/vacation stays elsewhere in Colorado. We checked in, no king - two doubles. Web page said pool, horseshoes, ping pong... advertised "wedding venue" so we're thinking must be a nice place. The lounge was closed, not just closed but windows broken out, dead vehicles setting around, fence fallen down, rotten porch boards... If you want a shower and a clean bed it works but the web site is TOTALLY MISLEADING. read more

I'm giving Sundance a 2-star rating only because I recognize this is an outdoorsy area, and my stay was comparable to camping. I was here on business and wouldn't recommend for that purpose. No iron or place to hang clothing if you need to dress nice, no full length mirror, etc. The bed was just moderately comfy, but sheet was inside out which made me wonder... Heaters were installed in the 70s (according to label on it) and we couldn't get them to work, making nights very cold. Shower was probably the worst part. Very small, outdated, and dirty. I wished I had packed shower shoes. I also had to brush something off of all the towels. Overall, I wasn't very comfortable because of the level of cleanliness. Plus side, great view, nice owner, and heard the cafe is very good but never ate there. If you're looking for something more rugged you might enjoy. Could me really charming with some updates, but wouldn't really recommend for most. read more

Here is the thing you need to understand, it is not a 5 star hotel and that is why this gets 5 stars. It's a lodge with a guy named Carey that manages the place. Carey lives to ride and ski, his first priority is to give you a bike trail map. This place has 12 rooms and each have their own mountain theme. Room 1 is where I stayed and it gave me a direct view of the mountain sunset. GORGEOUS. I would stay here 100 times over, its located near some great trails, a ski resort ( for winter time). There is a cafe attached to it, which we ate every meal at for two days and never got sick of it. The staff is a family and the food is homemade. This place is for camping type people, hilton rewards point peeps should skip it. read more

Then..... I have been coming here for years. I loved (emphasis on the ed tense of that word) this place. It is a very cool, small town hotel that looks like the Bates motel and just has a feel of coolness, character, nostalgia and many other feelings that have brought a smiles to my face year after year. And then the cafe that is attached to it. Outstanding!! Same thing. Small town feel, sit where you like attitude and the best view while you enjoy the best Bloody Mary on the continental divide! Well.....that is how it used to be. That was then and this is now. Now...... Now this place is dirty and no one seams to care. The rooms are gross. Pillows feel like they are 10 years old. The blanket on the bed feels dusty and dirty. The toilet is a big stain. The towels had brown stains on them. The water was brown out of the tap for the fist day I was there. No soap, no shampoo (good thing I bring my own). They don't clean your room here. Well....it has always been hit and miss but for the last 7 years that I have been coming here they have at least placed clean towels on your unmade bed during the day. Not anymore! One of the best things about this lodge was the cafe. Great view while having a great breakfast. Again.....not any more. What was once the best Bloody Marys around have become average Bloody Mary mix and a lot of Tabasco. The breakfast has gone down in quality and the service, while always a bit on 'Nederland time', has now gone to a complete 'I don't care' attitude by way of they will get to you when they get to you. Even when there are not that many tables you are waiting and waiting for menus, drinks, refills and so on. I always look forward to staying here. The rooms are cool and sometimes you can see a bear around, awesome for a city boy. And now I am completely saddened by what this place has become. I will never be back. I will never eat at the restaurant and that really sucks for me. If the ownership is reading this please step it up a little. You have a gem and are treating it like a turd. read more

We took a winter vacation to Nederland, CO, and stayed three nights at the Sundance Lodge. The price was right, and the views were spectacular. The adjoining cafe served good breakfast. That's about it for the nice things I can say about this place. We got in around 7:30pm after driving all day from New Mexico. The hotel manager was drunk when we checked in, and he gave us a hard time about arriving so late. I couldn't tell if he was joking or not. It was a little awkward and not a great first impression. The room was bare bones and outdated (except the satellite tv). No alarm clock, so I set my phone alarm to wake us up. The overhead light and ceiling fan didn't work from the first night we checked in. The shower was tiny and the water took forever to heat up. The bed was wobbly and not very comfortable; not conducive to getting quality sleep. The bulb in the bedside lamp burned out on the second night. We got by using the bathroom light and the glow of the tv. To make a bad situation worse, the radiator pilot light blew out halfway through the night. There was an instruction card explaining how to light the pilot, but we couldn't get it to work. Luckily we had packed a couple extra blankets, which helped a little. The next day, I asked the manager to help get it running again. He promised he would have it taken care of by the time we got back that evening. Imagine our disappointment when we arrived back to a freezing cold room (around 8pm). When we called the manager for help, he was drunk again and extremely rude. He did finally get the pilot light working, but not before accusing us of breaking it (and the lights), cursing at us, and telling us if we didn't like it then we could leave. He complained several times that "everyone wants something for free," and that we owed him payment for the room. Of course we still owed him...we weren't leaving until the following morning! It's standard practice to pay the bill upon check out, not before. We were not asking for anything unreasonable, just basic necessities. In speaking with another guest, I learned that he also had issues with his pilot light and had spent at least one night in a cold room. All in all, I really wanted to like this place (the website made it look so cozy!), but I will not stay here again. I could possibly have forgiven the multiple issues with the room, but I have never been treated with such disrespect as a guest and paying customer. As a side note, there are earlier reviews that reference Carey or Travis as the hotel manager, and how great they were. Unfortunately, neither of those people work there anymore. I recently had the privilege of staying at the Sundance Lodge and I could not have asked for a better experience. I was feeling a little iffy after reading the reviews on here, but noticing most of them were well over a year old - I decided to come see the place for myself, and I am so glad that I did! The management has changed in the past few months and the family very clearly cares about their guests and their experience while they are on the property. Kiera was particularly helpful answering any questions and ensuring we had a wonderful stay. The room was very clean with two incredibly comfortable beds, a flat screen tv, ceiling fan and even a mini fridge. I was honestly surprised to find this kind of luxury in the mountains! It beat the typical Marriott experience on every level. The views alone make the stay worth it. If you are looking for an excuse to breathe in some fresh mountain air, enjoy some pure silence and take a step away from life - this is an affordable option that you won't regret. read more

Buyer beware Do not book here under any circumstances. Too bad I had to give 1 Star, this place deserves negative ratings. Last week I booked and paid for this place to spend a relaxing night away from town. This has been nothing short from a complete nightmare!!! After arriving there was no staff available for check in just your name on a white board with you're keys in the room. Our name was not on the white board with no keys. I confirmed 3 hours prior to arriving our reservations. Called what is suppose to be management who was at a wedding, He had no clue who we were, had the name wrong etc. After trying to get a room and arguing with management he was extremely hostile and told us we no longer had a room there. They disguise the lodge as being under construction but it is poor management and hostile staff. I'm truly disappointed that any business would run in such a terrible manner. Do not book here unless you want to be treated with pure irrational behavior. read more

Ok, I get it. A super small motel/hotel in a super small town. But this has happened to me twice in two years. We were coming to town for Frozen Dead Guy Days, which is a pretty big deal for this cute little town. Childcare, PTO from work and travel were already booked and paid for. I got a call Saturday morning at 9am, the day of our checkin. The guy told us there was a plumbing issue with our room, and therefore we would not have a room ready for the evening...we've had this room booked for 4 months. Our friends had to cancel their reservation the day before, so I'm 100% positive a room was available just the day before. I informed the guy of this, and mentioned that we should get priority if that room that was just cancelled and rebooked YESTERDAY. He started yelling at ME, and telling me all this absolute crap about how he didn't have the contact info for the other folks that just booked our friends room just yesterday. Now I work in the business of booking and scheduling appointments, and double-booking happens. I totally get it. But everything he was saying to us was a lie. And even if it wasn't, him yelling at me was unnecessary. He then had the audacity to hang up the phone on me because he couldn't think of anymore excuses. He sounded like he may have been drunk. Bottom line...this place is cute, sorta clean, and absolutely terrible with customer service. I would not risk the small amount to stay here for the likelihood of terrible service and a last-minute BS excuse to cancel your hotel room. Rant over. read more

Sundance Lodge is a great place to stay! Ignore the posts that talk about Carey, he is no longer working there. Travis who is now running the lodge is a great guy. We stayed there for a week and a half this spring while waiting for our house in Ned to close. We got a much better deal at the Sundance than the Best Western. The Sundance Cafe has the best breakfast in Ned, ask anyone in town. Beautiful views and great folks read more

Ok, so here is the sitch. I really, Really, REALLY hate giving a 1 star rating but in this case I just can't help it. I was on the way home from Black Hawk yesterday with one of my boozey friends and it started raining super hard. It being night time, and given the fact that I lost my glasses like 2 years ago in yet another booze filled night of sin, we thought it best to just pull over and stay the night in Ned rather than trying to make it back to Denver. My Sister-in-boozebag suggested that we stay at the Sundance as she had been there before and, let us be honest, there aren't many options in the Mountain town. Fine, Carey (Manager'n Douche) showed us the room, we plopped down cash ($93) and settled in for the night. Could I forgive the fact that dust was caked over everything? Sure. Unpaved road in front, no window screens, whatever. I do have to say though, this was not simply "road dust." This was, "I haven't actually cleaned this room in a while." Then it was time to pull back the sheets. Oh... dear... god. As if the hair (looked like some human some animal) wasn't enough there was also mystery... umm... Yeah... there was something on the comforter that shall remain unsaid. Fine, fine... go to the happy place... ignore it. Morning came. That is when we discovered that the coffee pot was just as dirty, as well the microwave (no, we didn't use it but at that point you just have to see.) Then comes the shower. Once again, hair was everywhere. My personal favorite part was the used bar of hair covered soap from the previous occupant. Lovely. Needless to say we waited to shower when we got home. Upon bringing these issues to Carey, he simply started yelling about how we just wanted money and "Do you move furniture in every place you stay? What do you mean there was Slime? Like Ghostbusters Slime?" No, douchenozzle, we said grime... Grime. I usually try to give people the benefit of the doubt. Maybe we came on an off day? Was it a fluke? I'm just sayin' dude... you clearly don't really clean the rooms. Dust I can deal with, hell I love camping, "god made dirt, dirt don't hurt." But the mystery goo, the dirty bar of soap, coffee pot and all the rest, PLUS you were rude? As the one star rating says... "Eek! Methinks not." read more

Never again. This place pretends to be down to earth, but it's actually nothing more than a dirty pit. My husband and I stayed here for one night on a cross-country skiing weekend from Denver. We did not expect anything fancy, just a nice, simple place, but we were deeply disappointed -by the run down state of the building, the dirty bathroom, the uncomfy bed, windows that didn't open and the complete lack of isolation. Places like this simply benefit from high prices in Boulder county, but they don't seem to care about their customers. This destroys the spirit of this wonderful area. read more

I've never given one star before, and I dislike doing so since the manager was helpful when we asked for extra pillows, but no one should stay here unless they don't mind BED BUGS and the risk they will take them home. My girlfriend and I went across the country to visit her family living in Nederland. Her family has lived there for several decades and know all the locals. My girlfriends mother made arrangements for both her, myself, and our three dogs to stay at this lodge. We informed the owners and the manager(who turned out to be just the drunken rude maintenance man, who was not very good at his job) that our dogs were big and the owners said that would be no problem. The first night we got there we started to check in, all the while the piss drunk manager yelled at us about being late and we can't have dogs. Well, after the owners had to call and force the maintenance man to give us a room, the piss drunk maintenance man opened our room and started to slam his fist into the light switch(which broke immediately, and he later blamed on us), ripped the cord to the ceiling fan off (which he said our dogs broke the ceiling fan), the maintenance man then proceeded to turn on the room heater by slamming it around and punching it. (No wonder we didn't have heat the next night, and he still blamed us for breaking the heater) The rooms had no smoke alarm, shower curtain, and electrical wiring hanging out from different places in the room. The 2nd night was worse than the first because whatever the idiot maintenance man did to the room nothing worked, especially the heater. This wouldn't have been a problem but it was snowing and the temperature was 18 degrees outside and inside the room. When we asked for the heater to be fixed my girlfriend was called several sexual derogatory insults, this waste of human space finally came down to our room ranting and raving about how everyone wants something free and cursing myself and my girlfriend up and down. He then began to blame the dogs for things that we watched him break. Oh and for the yelp review that gives this place a high grade is written by one of the staff of the diner attached to the lodge. All I can do is warn the next person or persons to avoid this place like the plague because no place is worth this much hassle at over room when there are much better nicer places to stay in Nederland. Nederland is wonderful I am just sorry that this place is still screwing people around. read more
