Cute neighborhood place. Line was wrapped throughout the place and almost out the door, but the staff had their shit together like a well-uniformed assembly line and the wait was over quite quickly. They had every ice cream flavor imaginable but they were out of waffle cones that night (no biggie). Prices were average. Helpings were just right. My Swedish Fish water ice was not overly sweet and very enjoyable. The black raspberry ice cream was very good. My cousin, however, got the salted caramel and wasn't crazy about it. We've all had salted caramel before and it's generally the perfect sweet to salty ratio, but this was like if you walked into the ocean with a caramel candy in your mouth and then gulped a mouthful of saltwater. The real play here is their different Sundae combos which never disappoint. The staff is very friendly and efficient. I would not waste my time at the other two Avalon ice cream places. Amazing ice cream and generous portions- its as good as it gets! They have so many flavors I often find it hard to decide on what I want. Avalon Mud and Salted Caramel are my favorite, and they also have plenty of other equally delicious flavors including Mint Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter Swirl, and Funky Monkey. The owner is so sweet and personable and you can tell that he goes the extra mile for his customers. My only recommendation is to go right after your dinner because there is a line that is out the door by 8:30, if not earlier. We visited Sundae Best this evening. My $7 strawberry milkshake was not made right. It was like drinking strawberry milk not a thick creamy milkshake. Big disappointment as I wasted calories on a terrible treat. My husband had a double scoop of ice cream with two flavors. The size of the cone was ridiculously small as we saw people coming out of the store with single cones larger than his double cone. Next time I will stick with my favorite soft ice cream down the street. Will not return. read more

After years of going to the other ice cream place on the island, we found Sundae Best two summers ago, and haven't looked back. It is no exaggeration to state that I have been thinking about their Pistachio ice cream since last summer. I had it again today and was not disappointed. It is hands down the best I have ever had anywhere. There was a pistachio in every bite I took, and the ice cream was creamy and luscious. We spoke to the owner's daughter who was working today. She had just made batches of both ginger ice cream and grilled pineapple. She had candied the ginger herself, and the result was superb. The grilled pineapple had bits of caramelized pineapple, and a tiny hint of heat (cayenne, I assume) at the finish. When we go back tomorrow, I'm getting half ginger, half grilled pineapple. The kids love the sundaes - tons of toppings, incredible flavors. This place makes perhaps the best ice cream I have ever had. Yes, it's crowded and the lines are long in the evening. So do what we do and go in the midday. You will not regret the time and money spent. read more

Six people working with only three scooping ice cream at a snails pace made the line move incredibly slow. Line down the block and one employee was outside wiping down tables and chairs in the rain.
