Our interest in solar began with a few of the big leasing companies. We got close to signing up with one of them after they sent me all the info a woo'd us with no upfront costs. Contracts were drawn up, but there were things that just didn't sit well with the deal. The fact that I would have to sign a 20 year lease with this company and convince any future buyers of my house to pick up that lease was definitely not attractive. Plus the amount we were to pay them per kw and the amount they were taking in the federal tax credit just didn't add up when I did the math for what we would be paying to them over 20 years. A rep from Hudson Solar came to a solar awareness night at our local library. I attended the session and was enlightened about the prospect of owning, rather than leasing. After seeing all the positives that come from owner financing we decided to work with Hudson Solar to install our solar system. I was put in touch with sales rep, Chris Patak, who was great at explaining our options for financing, system size, support, roi, etc. He setup an engineer to come out who did a thorough site inspection of our house and yard to allow them to draw up plans for the system. Based on that report, Chris showed us a few options for our system, looking to maximize output to cover our yearly electric output. No pressure was applied through any of this process. Once we were satisfied, we signed off on the system and waited for the cold winter to loosen its grip so we could start the installation. We had an inside team come out and setup the monitoring components of the system, and then another crew came to do the outside work and attic work. Both teams were meticulous in the work they performed. Dan and Tim, the outside techs, were courteous, professional and their work was neat. Most of the install days were cold but they showed up promptly and worked through some bad conditions. I offered them hot drinks many times, but all they really wanted was access to a bathroom. I could tell that they were taking care to make sure things were done correctly and without haste. They took their time with the mounts on the roof, insuring a waterproof connection to each rafter. The wiring work and rack work were done neatly as well. On the last day of the job, when the panels were to be installed, I took a look at the panels that were staged in my garage and noticed a 2 inch silver marking on one of the panels. It looked almost like a scratch but I wasn't quite sure. Dan followed up with the install manager, Wes Naprstek, and he directed them to replace the panel. They had another tech drive a replacement panel down to our house that same day. The distance to our location from the office was over an hour and a half. That was impressive. Wes came out after the install and inspected the system and gave me and my wife a thorough overview of the system. The next day he returned with the electric inspector who signed off on the system. He turned it on and we were delighted to see the rapid pace that the meter was running backward. All the players at Hudson Solar were always responsive to my questions throughout the whole process. They made the process smooth and handled all the paperwork for permitting for what was needed for our town. They went above and beyond just the normal client/customer relationship. An example of this, was when I went to Chris and let him now that I was a volunteer firefighter and was hoping to get a lecture setup for our department on Solar safety for firefighting. Due to the popularity of solar systems in the community (either leased or owned), there are concerns that firefighters need to be aware of if we encounter these systems on a house that we may be responding to in an emergency situation. Without hesitation Chris agreed that it was important topic and worked with another engineer, Gary Bassett, to setup an extremely informative solar awareness talk for one of our drills. There were over 30 firefighters that benefited greatly from the information that he presented that evening. Overall, Hudson Solar has been a pleasure to work with. No pressure through any of the process and they were there to answer all our questions. Would highly recommend them for a solar install. 5 stars for all phases of the job from design, implementation, financing and customer service. So far the production looks great, and time will tell just how well the system functions, but so far so good. Looking forward to sunny days. read more

I wanted to use a local/regional company that had been in business for a while. They were doing solar panels before it became fashionable, so I valued their experience and their record of success was not from massive national advertising campaigns. If I had a problem, the phone wasn't answered out West somewhere, but in the Hudson Valley. I also know many issues are from many companies using less than quality components. Hudson Solar uses all quality equipment. I had done a lot of reading, so I didn't really need to be sold. Hudson Solar handled all the paperwork and did all the contacts, from the filing for the building permits, filing with the lenders (I bought, not leased), arranging things with the Utility (Central Hudson), arranging for inspections, dealing with NYSERDA for the rebates. In addition, they easily dealt with a special issue with my install, as I had a generator hookup at the meter. They engineered a solution that would still allow me to use the generator if needed during an extended power failure (say at night when the panels aren't operating,) As with any outdoor construction project, you are at the mercy of the weather, but the install was done within the week. The install crew were friendly, professional, accommodating and informative., To be succinct , they knew their stuff. They left the worksite neat and clean everyday. Upon completion, the Project Manager Josh explained how the system worked, the controls, the monitoring system. I haven't had to do any follow-up, but even after they had my money, they were very responsive. Joe Zietz helped design my package with me and talked through all of my questions, from tech to finance. Super helpful, patient, and thoughtful. Sam Wilo oversaw the permitting and install and has been great - super helpful, patient, and thoughtful. The install crew is wonderful too, taking their time to explain everything and working with me to make sure it's the best and meets all my needs. Pete Vandenshay (best electrician ever!) and Chandler Burger prepped the electrical area for my inverters and did so in a way that really works with other household needs. Jameson LeCompte and Nick Calamari did really careful excavation and trenching work, keeping the area clean and cared for. Josh Doherty and his team, including Eric Bush, Dave Plummer, Ibra Ndiaye, Michael Schilling, and I think another team-member, did a really amazing install. Everyone worked together seamlessly and took excellent care. They left the job site super clean and paid great attention to detail. This is definitely the team you want to do a big project with. Nice, thoughtful, talented people. They just completed the install so now we're waiting for the utility company to sort out paperwork and stuff on its end. Once that's completed we'll be up and running. I suspect everything will be perfect, and if there's any problem I feel really confident that this team has got my back. So Glad we went with Hudson Solar! As a homeowner who recently had a Solar system installed by Hudson Solar, I can't say enough good things about this company. From the beginning of inquiring about purchasing a system to a year later today, they have been friendly, professional, and very fast getting our system from first concept to completed and saving us money daily. Whether it was getting us information, explaining the financing details (tax credits and rebates), and following up with us through the entire project (even a months after completion), our representative Chris has been nothing short of fantastic. As far as the system itself, the installation process was seamless and impressive. Wes and his installation crew are very skilled at their craft. The job was completed quickly, they do extremely clean work always with a mindful eye on the overall aesthetics. There was virtually no interruption to our daily lives while the install was happening. It was obvious that they truly care and are passionate at their craft as well as happiness of their customers. Finally went on line on November 30, 2011 after a three month delay due to damage from the hurricane Irene. HVCE is an excellent company to do business with. Brian was very patient and provided many estimates as I assessed different options of both a roof top and a ground installation. Finally went with a four pole 48 panel ground installation. I am a retired electrical engineer, so I had many engineering type questions. HVCE promptly answered all of them. This is not the case with other solar contractors that I talked to. The entire HVCE crew from engineering to the installation crew were very friendly and courteous. They did not hesitate to answer my many questions. Although the occurance of a hurricane the day before final electrical inspection is a very unlikely event, I advise one to review their insurance coverage to make sure that one has adequate coverage on a timely basis. It was my belief that I was not liable for any damage until after the final electrical inspection. To make a long story short, my insurance policy covered the damage, essentially one of the four arrays was completely destroyed by a neighbor's tree which was felled by the hurrucane, thank goodness read more

We looked around a lot before going with Hudson Solar. The weren't the cheapest, although they did offer us cheaper alternatives, but they also didn't offer us what appeared to be the unrealistic returns that we got from some other providers. Our project manager Chris Patek was there to answer each and every concern that we had and to offer his experienced opinion. He listened to exactly what we wanted and designed a system to fit our needs and wants. The engineers and installation staff were clearly experienced, helpful and accommodating. We went live last September and have been incredibly happy. They continue to monitor our production on a regular basis to insure the system is working as it should. We had HVCE do a solar panel install on our house in 2009. They also have done a battery backup last year. We found them to be very professional and thorough. Everything is explained and labeled. In our discussions with the people installing the hardware, we found them to be well informed. There was a pipe protector that had separated in the several years after the original solar panel install. A gentleman who was working on the battery install noticed it, called it in, and someone was here to fix it very quickly. We live out in Ulster county, pretty far from the shop but they have not stinted in making sure the solar install is working properly. I highly recommend them. read more

There are three main aspects I would mention as a review: the product and it's construction, the installation and the staff. Since I began looking at ground mount systems I've looked at several other systems in my area and I would rate Hudson Solar's the highest. The plan for installation and engineering group was flexible with all my requirements and the completed system is neat and professionally installed. As for the staff, every person from Hudson Solar has been and continues to be professional and more then willing to make the relationship positive. HVCE installed my PV system in Nov. 2009. They were very professional in the presentation. They took care of all the required applications and paperwork involved. stay clear of suncommon post bankruptcy. My panel mounts have plastic pieces falling off them, the meter isnt working correctly since install. NOW Suncommon wants a payout for what never worked correctly to begin with. The company offers no help, just wants more $$$$ for what they were already paid for, an operating solar panel system with powerwalls. My issue has existed since day 1 of install. read more
