I lived at Sun Wood Apartments (they've now changed names to "Sun Wood Senior") for 5 years.
I moved out last December to relocate, otherwise I would have stayed even longer! The staff are nice and the maintenance guys are very knowledgeable.
I loved the location! The apartments are tucked in on N 99th Ave and it borders the Sun City area (a great area to drive around!) There's a CVS just down the road. It's very easy to drive to the 101 highway. Plenty of fast food options within a 5 minute drive, on both W. Peoria Ave and W. Olive Ave. For some nicer sit-down restaurants, I would do the 15 minute drive to the "P83" area up near W. Bell Rd and N 83rd Ave. You'll find movie theaters there, lots and lots of restaurants, a baseball complex for Spring training games, Trader Joe's.
I feel that the location of Sun Wood is a very safe area. On a rare occasion, there was some vandalism in the parking lot areas but Sun Wood then hired a night time security watch man.
If you are looking for an apartment, Sun Wood is a nice option. Just keep in mind that it is an older complex. Unless they have updated the laundry rooms since I left, the w/d's certainly are older and it would be great if they replaced them. For the most part, I used to just go to the laundromat... it was quicker to get the laundry done and with newer w/d's that I felt cleaned and dried clothes better.
Some apartment units are "upgraded" units and have their own small stackable w/d right in the apartment.
Since it's an older complex, I'm just giving Sun Wood 4 stars. If you have a choice of apartments, make sure to ask how old each of the kitchen appliances are and how old the heat/AC unit is. Go for the apartment with the newer appliances and heat/AC unit because it's not easy to get a new appliance unless it's truly on its last leg.
Overall, though, I'd choose Sun Wood again to live! Good location, has a pool area and community room, spacious units with a balcony or patio, plenty of parking, clean grounds, professional staff. read more
