no room for my suitcase on the floor

I can't imagine what kind of horrible places people are staying in that they would give this place a 4 star review (not just here, but on other travel sites). I've never posted a lodging review in my life, but I just had to make an exception for this place. I was in cabin #1, for 3 nights. First of all, it was not clean - there were used coffee grounds in the coffee maker, and long dark hairs that most assuredly were not mine on the shower stall wall. Made me wonder what else hadn't been cleaned before I was given the cabin. The electric outlet in the bathroom was partially out of the wall, I was afraid to touch it, much less use it. The cabin wasn't "cozy", it was SMALL. I have a bathroom in my house that I am pretty sure is bigger than this cabin. There was no place for my suitcase - it stayed on the bed with me, on one side of the bed, and I slept on the other (good thing there was no other person with me). I had to access the suitcase from my side of the bed, because my two small dog beds were in the narrow space between the bed and the wall. The only other horizontal area for placing things in the room was 1 1/2 tv trays (one of them was 1/2 taken up with a toaster and a coffee maker), and two narrow wall shelves near the bed (too narrow even for my purse). The microwave had no space on top because the approx. 15 inch tv was on it. There were two burners and a sink. with no counter space. When I made a cup of tea, I had to place the cup in the sink when I wasn't holding it. When I ate in my room, I had to place my dish on the bed, and sit on the bed (there was no chair in the room, either, and certainly no couch). Obviously, the larger cabins would solve the size problems, but I was paying (with pet fees) almost $200/night for this shoebox. It wasn't pet-friendly, it was pet-tolerant. According to their rules, they charge you a large fee if they find pet hair on the bed. For what I was paying in pet fees for those three nights, they could have bought a couple of new bedspreads. No one emptied the trash pail each day, which would have been fine (I've stayed in cabins before), I would have done it myself but they didn't leave any liners to put in if I emptied it. And yeah, it was "conveniently" located on the main road. Translation - it was noisy. Rt. 3 is a very busy road, with lots of traffic on it, including loud motorcycles, and even louder trucks with those outrageously loud mufflers (It didn't help that I was in the cabin closest to the road). There was no central heating in the cabin, only a couple of space heaters. I had to leave the bathroom door open and roll one of the heaters as close as I could to the door, otherwise the bathroom felt like a refrigerator in the morning. (I already mentioned there was no way I was using that bathroom outlet). One more thing - the wi-fi was unreliable. it would be on for 5 minutes, then it would drop my connection. There were other, smaller, issues, but I think you get the idea. I'd sleep in my car before staying there again.

    This is the horrible couch

Ok so we booked this cottage #4 - last minute which we never do and what a mistake. The site said the cottage had a couch which it does, but barely fits 2 people and it is CHILD sized. You are sitting literally a couple inches off the floor it is so low. Now let's talk about how the cabin is advertised as a winterized cabin but it is not. The floor is so cold that our dog will not even sleep on the floor. Finally - we will move to the animal that is under the cabin - scratching to get in or out - not sure which. It actually began scratching behind the fiberglass shower stall - not overly confident of it staying out and us staying in. Wanted to really like it but unfortunately the ridiculous couch offered as seating (seriously it's a joke) and the animal (whatever it is) trying to get in gets this place a 1 star. Stairs were covered in ice and snow making it dangerous to get in. Water faucet leaked constantly. Oh and an update on the additional resident - the animal living there. It has access to underneath the cottage, can access behind the shower stall and full access to the ceiling area. Take a look at the ridiculous piece of furniture they called a couch. Look at the height of the end table or even the wooden TV tray table in comparison to the height of the couch. Really?

    Beautiful cottage!

It's in Belmont about an hour from Ossipee Lake and about a half an hour from Lake Winnipesaukee. It's a cute set up with a few tenting sites as well as a majority of RV and cabin sites. Definitely a seasonal place we're regulars spend their time. Quiet hours are after 10pm and fire had to be out before midnight. There are privacy fences around the few tent sites. When we forgot our paddles for one of our kayaks they let us use one for free. They had paddle boards and kayak rentals as well. The beach area was as nice as it could be but it did have a lot of floaties and a good amount of guck on the bottom. It wasn't a deep lake and it was filled with river weed and plant like to the surface just after the beach. Definitely don't want to fall in out of the beach area ! The owners hand delivered ice and fire wood whenever we called the front office, among other things. They wouldn't take our tips either. They even had a small store. All in all the place is cute, the owners are nice and when we were in last minute jam they were very accommodating !!

This year was the first year that mangy was horrible as the camp ground was sold to modern America and it use to be a family owned camp ground . No one was ever there to meet us to check us in or there when we had to return the gate key . The first visit my uncle who is handicap the bathroom shower seat broke when he was on it , one of the mgt was there and did nothing but put a sign on the bathroom "use caution shower seat broke " 5 weeks later they kinda fixed it. We started a fire and half the ground from the site went up as the site was full of pine needles and leaves that were never cleaned up. We were asked to move our car from the overflow parking lot when the same lady told us to put it there. The last night of our stay in Oct of 2023 there was domestic with a gun at the entrance and not one person of mgt was there but my husband was with the police. I am so upset with modern America They every went as far as not renewing another family memebers seasonal because she asked very nicely when they thought the shower seat would be fixed (after 4 weeks) she politely stated there are lots of elderly and disabled in the park an she was just wondering .

Even without the familial connection, I'd be absolutely in love with this place. Family and friends gathered this past weekend for a memorial hike in honor of my dad, who passed in 2007. Leon and Nellie went out of their way to accommodate us, down to even offering additional rooms when some extra guests appeared and getting up extra early to make us to-go egg sandwiches we could take long on our hike up Mt. Washington. Both our group and the other guests at the Inn were treated like treasured friends in their home and it felt like a big old family reunion for us all. The Spruce Moose is the perfect location---a short walk to the adorable North Conway village, and a quick drive to countless hiking options. The decor makes you feel like you're visiting friends in a luxurious mountain home. Zeb and Avery, the two trusty labs, greet you at the door and will cuddle you on the couch for hours if you let them. The beds are comfy, and the rooms contain no tvs so you can truly enjoy the nature around you (though there IS wi-fi if you need your technology fix). Breakfast in the morning is delicious and filling. Tea and coffee are available at any time. It was an amazing weekend, in no small part to Leon and Nellie. I will be back to the Spruce Moose the next time I come to North Conway!

Avery and Jed are the most welcoming doggies, I was only with them for one night and I miss them terribly. The breakfast was excellent, coffee and tea are available all the time. My room was beautiful, the shower had great water pressure, and the lodge itself is super warm and cozy. I honestly felt like I was visiting relatives I just hadn't met yet.
