I genuinely don't understand how Sun Tan City manages to stay in business. The entire place feels like it hasn't been properly cleaned since 2009. The beds are always "freshly sanitized," yet somehow still feel sticky, which is honestly impressive in the worst possible way. The staff seem either completely uninterested in helping you or aggressively pushing overpriced lotions that cost more than the actual membership. Emily in specific has provided multiple bad experiences and from what I can see treats her staff disrespectfully. The "membership deals" are also a joke. good luck trying to cancel without feeling like you're negotiating a hostage situation. if you enjoy wasting money and dealing with horrible staff and a terribly run business then go here. read more

I walked into sun tan city to have a nice day with my sister who had a gift card from her bridal shower. This was my first time going there. Siona was at the front desk when we walked in and she was super pushy and kind of rude about selling products when we already had our own. Her attitude needs to be checked. I plan on coming in soon on my own for a spray tan, but the whole process to sign up is very inconvenient. read more

I am a Vip member as I was last year...the business I go to is always clean and for the most part very up to date on new equipment..I understand that there are constant new employees and understand they are in training..when I came in today i had checked in and told what I wanted to do in order..the tanning bed first..when I got out and wanted to go into the full red light therapy bed, I was told that someone else up front working said I needed to go into trim spa first which I did not want but went ahead..as soon as i got out i was ready for the full poly red light bed..I was told by some girl i'd never seen before that someone just went in and I had to wait 19 minutes...I couldn't wait and felt like they had changed me around for a reason...the girl up front was very smart mouthed and I just left..she should not be in customer service with the attitude she had..totally uncalled for... read more

Going downhill quickly. There seems to be some turnover in personnel and they are not as customer service oriented. I was waiting to be told what room I could self tan in, and three employees walked by without even acknowledging me...just scowls and turned up noses. When one of the three walked past for the second time, I said "excuse me, I just need to know the room number for my spray tan." She immediately corrected me with "you mean self tanner". Really?? You can ignore me standing waiting for help, but you have time to correct my words?! Then I go this morning, wanting to be in and out to start my day. 10:00 am and no one is there to open the store and take care of customers...by 10:10 there was me and three other customers , but no employees...I don't know when an employee showed up because I left. I said maybe, because this used to be a good place with nice attentive employees, and just recently has turned bad, so I'm hoping they get this under control quickly. read more

I just moved to Carmel... 1st time going to Sun Tan City. I purchased a special on the app that I was told had expired. It was not clear! I thought I had until 1/31 to use but was told that's when the special expired. I am black and the ee's were looking crazy like why am I here. Borderline rude! The music was so damn loud I couldn't hear myself think!!! I ended up spending $40 with no receipt and I have no idea what I have but one more tan session and some spa something. I needed goggles and a packet of lotion. No receipt so I have no idea what I even paid for each item. Also, the ee called me on the phone to see if I was still in there!!! I am appalled! I will give the Fishers location a try next time. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THAT LOCATION AND I WILL BE WRITING THE CORPORATE OFFICE! read more

The manager and employee were beyond rude. Walked in with my daughter and didn't even get to say a single word before they rudely told me my 4 year old daughter couldn't be in the establishment. No where does it say minor are not allowed on the premise!!!! This is considered age discrimination! Colleen was so rude to my friends , tried to up-charge them several times, and tried to not take their gift card as payment which was literally a sun tan city gift card. The whole experience was just frustrating and ridiculous. The normal staff here is so friendly and accommodating, which is why I was so put off by the cold behavior. I really hope they can have a chat with some of their employees about being more friendly, and especially about being kind even if the person is getting your cheapest option. I know this sounds a little nit picky but you really never know what people are going through and how these interactions can put people off from a lot in the future. I just feel like especially for establishments where their purpose is caring for or pampering yourself in any way, you should be especially considerate of being a warm and welcoming environment. The establishment as a whole has always been incredible, I have continued going back to this location instead of trying any others because I really do enjoy it here and the employees have been so amazing at welcoming you and making you feel safe and wanted there. So i'm really hoping this is an issue that can easily be fixed and the last thing I would want out of this review would be for it to cast a negative light on the staff and establishment as a whole :) read more

Convenient location right near Meijer! Staff is usually pretty Efficient and the beds are well maintained. Great place to get a tan and see true results. Definitely the best company when it comes to tanning. Well versed group of ppl that know what it takes to look good and stay healthy. I love this sun tan I go here frequently all of the employees are very straight forward and extremely kind. However Emily (who I believe is the manager of the salon) has been extremely rude to me on multiple occasions. Almost everytime I'm checking in she rolls her eyes, talks down to me, has an attitude etc. I'm very upset because i truly do enjoy everyone there creating a great environment but I'm choosing to cancel my membership because of the multiple experiences I've had with her. Most recently I asked her about a specific package and she had so much attitude when I would ask her simple questions. Sun Tan City is just the best place to relax and enjoy some rays without being in Florida! I always leave feeling happier with my dose of Vitamin D for the day. They always have promotions and specials going on so that's an extra bonus! This actually took place at the West Carmel location, but they have not been added to Yelp. It's a brand new location that is now closing at the end of the month. How can one quick trip to the tanning salon produce three complaints: COMPLAINT 1 of 3: I walked in to the West Carmel (Indiana) salon, sign in, a girl is at the computer. My friend walks over to the other girl and is being taken care of. I stand there, never being acknowledged until she looks up and says "Did you join here (see complaint three for more information)." I said, I am member here and you seem to just be ignoring me tonight. "Oh, I am off the clock right now." SERIOUSLY, if you are OFF THE CLOCK, get AWAY from the front desk. Or politely acknowledge a customer when they enter and tell them another associate will be with you momentarily. COMPLAINT 2 of 3: I have several upgrade credits on my account. The weekend is half price upgrades. I was excited to take advantage of that. I upgraded to the "faster" tan (another pet peeve of mine that there are so many options), and she said that was $2.75 with tax. I said okay. She said I had to pay cash for my upgrade. If I used my account, it would charge the full rate of the upgrade rather than the special. Are you freaking kidding me? These options, upgrades, etc. are just made to confuse the customer. COMPLAINT 3 of 3: So the reason I was asked if I joined that location was that anyone who joined at that location was going to be terminated at the end of the month unless they were transferred to another location (makes no sense since the entire computer system is networked). Six to eight weeks ago, you remodeled a tanning salon. A banner hung outside with "Sun Tan City" on it for a while. Two weeks ago, you new sign went up. Today, we learn you are closing this location at the end of the month. Smart, economic move! read more

Never tanned in my life, and really don't want to be tanning but after moving here from Arizona 2 years ago I just NEED the vitamin D. And I know as soon as it gets hot enough to tan outside I'm going to sizzling if I don't get a base going. Very easy to join, a little pricey (not sure what to compare it to but seems spendy). BUT the place is spotless. The staff is friendly and there is hardly a wait. If this is your first time tanning, I would lather up your face, neck, ears and top of your chest. I just use 15 SPF tanning lotion, I really don't need more freckles or any skin damage. And my skin still looks even it's just more protected than the rest of my snow white skin. Also, I prefer the stand-up booth, there are handles so you can stand there with your arms up and not worry about white spots. I usually get my groove on while in there, gotta dance to the music man. I plan to just use this month's membership to get my base and then let the natural sun do the rest! read more

The attendants are usually always pleasant and it's usually as quick as possible considering the limited number of beds. However I do have two complaints. They have no way to maintain a plan without your card being charged every month. You will be charged the first of the month unless you cancel beforehand. I personally don't like this method as I feel it takes advantage of the consumer. Also, this is a complaint about Sun Tan City as a company, not this specific location. However, the one thing to be aware of about this location is that some offers aren't accepted here because they don't have their lowest grade bed. This means that the ads you will here about tanning for only twenty dollars a month aren't valid because they don't have that level of bed. Get it together, Sun Tan City. read more

I moved here from San Diego about a year and a half ago and, due to the lack of sunshine, I am whiter than I ever have been in my entire life! I had a cocktail party to attend, so I stopped in here for a spray tan. They have lots of specials, so be sure to ask. For example, on certain days spray tans are only $10 which IMO is a great price! The facility was very clean and the spray units seemed to be top-of-the-line. I have been to other facilities where the spray units do not dry you off adequately, so you're still a little tacky after. That was not the case here. My tan turned out even and dark without leaving me with an orangey "Oompa Loompa" tint. The staff was super friendly, customer service oriented and incredibly helpful with any questions I had regarding the spray tan process. I would highly recommend this place if you're looking for a good spray tan. read more

Went to Carmel location looking for a few weeks of tanning prior to spring break and paid over $80 for my wife and I. Went in to cancel and was informed that I have to pay for an additional entire month before I could cancel for another $80. I was informed that this was disclosed to me at sign up, I don't recall this and disclosed to them at sign up I was only interested in a few weeks. I've never spray tanned before. I'm fair skinned and wanted to look bronze before my trip to Florida this weekend. I did research on the process before coming in but I was very nervous and wasn't sure which tan to choose and what to do. Sara greeted me at the front desk and was AWESOME. She answered all of my rookie questions with a smile and helped me pick the best option for my skin tone. She told me about the different products and how to use them. She also walked me through the whole spray tan process and again answered any question I had. I was so nervous I ended up forgetting the 'barrier' step and panicked that my hands and feet would turn orange. Sara handed me wipes and assured me that it would be okay. I had a great experience today and its been fun watching my color develop tonight. I never felt rushed or judged during the entire visit, it was very comfortable and fun!
