I highly recommend air-tan! This was my first spray tan experience ever, and I was super nervous about ending up too dark... but also didn't want to walk away feeling like I spent money for nothing, ya know? Air-tan is perfect because you get to consult with an actual human expert who helps you decide how to best get exactly the look you're going for. I have gone twice now, both in the winter months ahead of fancy special events. I get the regular solution at level 2 (they could also do a 1.5 if you're nervous) and it is perfect. Just enough to give me a healthy glow. The price is also great, especially with the $10 off coupon for your first time when you check-in on yelp and a great refer-a-friend program. I'm glad to be able to incorporate air-tan into my self-care treat routine, just like you might consider a manicure, nice haircut, or wax. I, like most brides-to-be, wanted to have a little color for my wedding day. I picked Air-Tan in Broad Ripple based on their social media account, honestly. They were the only ones I felt were really posting and continued to show client photos. Their pricing was also a huge win! I booked a test spray first and I really am glad I did. I do not remember the girl who sprayed me first but I felt like I came out really really dark. After about 5 days I finally was the color I was looking for. So, when I booked my final spray for my wedding I talked to a new girl about what I was looking for and how dark I previously was. The second girl was so nice and helpful! I am not a shy person at all, but standing basically naked in front of a stranger can be uncomfortable for some. I felt like the girl spraying me was very welcoming and nice. I love how sweet the girls are here at Air-Tan! They always answer any questions I have and I can tell they really care about their customers. The actual tan lasts around a week and a half to two weeks depending on how well I take care of it (exfoliating before, moisturizing, etc) and has really nice olive undertones so I never end up with yellow/orange tints. I used to use harsh chemical-based self tanners, or would use tanning beds 3-4 times a week until my mom was diagnosed with skin cancer. I started asking around and a friend referred me to air tan because of their organic and organic plus solution options. This sold it for me. Knowing I'm keeping harsh chemicals off my body and still looking tan year round has made me a forever customer of Air Tan! This location has parking behind the building which is nice now that the street in front had the Red Line bus station put in, eliminating front street parking. I've been to air tan in broad ripple a handful of times. I highly recommend following them on social media (Snapchat and Instagram specifically) as they are known to post a lot of sales/specials! I have always had the same tech, Chelsea. She is so incredibly nice and makes you feel comfortable. They have different tanning solutions to choose from, I believe I may be allergic to their original solution as after my first tan my body was insanely itchy for days after. LOVE the Fishers location - it's easy to get an appointment and the people there are super friendly. I thought it would be mortifying to stand mostly naked in front of a stranger, but they made me feel really comfortable. Here's the rundown: --you go into your room to get undressed. You can wear their paper thong if you want minimal tan lines, or you can wear something of yours (hint - make sure it's dark, because there is a little bronzer in the spray they apply so they can see it go on). It's ok to be topless if you want. --you stand on some little paper shoes that stick to your feet, put your hair into a hair net, apply some barrier cream to your elbows and the backs of your heels, remove any makeup on your face (they provide Ponds wipes for you), take jewelry off, put your face mask on (optional), and turn the light on in the spray room within your room---that signals your air-tan technician that you're ready to go. --you stand in the spray room while an overhead fan ventilates the room. The technician will tell you how to hold your arms, which way to turn when, and so on. When it's time to do your face, they'll do a countdown so you can hold your breath. --after a few minutes, you're all done! See, that wasn't so bad, was it? Now you just have to avoid showering/getting sweaty for 8 hours. There is a *very* slight self-tanner smell on the first day, but nothing horrible at all, and I'm super sensitive to it. The tan usually lasts 7-10 days, and I found that my first one gradually faded instead of wearing off in weird places. I'm naturally VERY pale and went with a medium shade, and got tons of compliments about my tan -- everyone was shocked it was fake. I had a great experience at Air Tan in Broadripple. I had been a couple times but on a return visit I asked what I could do to improve my tan and the customer service response was great! They suggested that I do an ombré effect, since I often find that the tan on my legs usually wears off first and faster than my top half of my body(they said this is natural for everyone). I usually get a level 3, but she suggested that I get a 3 on every where besides my legs and get a level 4 on my legs. I did not even know that was an option! I love going to the Air Tan in Broad Ripple! The women who work here are always so kind and make me feel comfortable by explaining everything as they're doing it. The best way to bronze! I have been to both the Broad Ripple and downtown locations and I have never been disappointed! The tans can last up to two weeks and every tan I've received always has a natural look. My brother's wedding is in 3 days and I just realized I have a terrible farmers tan and my dress is strapless! EEK! A friend of mine had used MysticTan a few years ago with some success, but I didn't trust myself to turn around in the machine and get even coverage without falling over or hurting myself. I did a quick google search and found Air-Tan. Air-Tan is great. A person airbrushes the tanning solution on your body so you get even coverage and no drips! I am pretty awkward about my body, but my airbrush artist, Megan, explained the whole process and made sure that I was comfortable throughout. I opted to not go too dark because I didn't want to look weird. It evened out my farmers tan and gave me a nice glow, but I don't look too different. One even paid my parking meter one time because the credit card swipe wasn't working and I had no quarters! They make you feel completely normal (even when you're naked), and they always do a good job. The place does feel a bit dingy. When you stand in the creepy windowless room waiting for them to spray you, you can't help but feel a little weirded out, but I think it is bronzer on the walls that makes the place look a bit untidy. This is my favorite go-to spray tan location. I've been coming here since 2012 and I am never disappointed. They don't require appointments, but they are very recommended. Be sure to make an appointment in the warmer months as big events approach (spring break, prom, etc). They are always busy. They walk you through what their different levels of spray tans are. If you aren't sure, the staff is highly trained and educated on what would look good on you. I love that it's personalized, rather than worrying about being in a spray tan booth hoping that it gets every spot. I always ask the girls to make my face just a tad bit darker due to my preference. You can't beat the customer service. You have the option to wear a swimsuit/bra top or you can go topless. The girls are so friendly that in my opinion, it's never awkward topless. Plus, no tan lines.. hello! The broad ripple is my favorite location. I live downtown and the girls are wonderful at the downtown location as well. Emily (broadripple) is my favorite. She is a wonderful asset to the company and her customer service skills compliment the company very well. Make sure to wear loose fitting sweats on your way out so that you don't ruin the spray tan. Standing naked in the middle of a Tiffany-Blue tiled 7'x7' room (approx) while someone sprays you with a cold mist is not the best part of my Air-Tan experience (surprisingly!). No, the best part is getting a sun-kissed glow without the harmful tanning bed lights. Many sunless tanners LOVE a spray tan *machine* like the ones offered at Tanning Salons. I prefer the hand-applied artistry offered by Air-Tan. Here's how it works, and why it's different (better). You make an appointment, like a salon, or a massage. When you arrive, you sign in, and if it's your first time, the super friendly staff gives you the run-down of what to expect, and will introduce you to your personal spray administrator. She talks to you about what level of tan you want. THIS is the BEST part! It's entirely customizable. They have "levels" yes, but if you need to be 'in-between', that's totally fine! For me, even the lowest level, a level 1, is too dark (yeah, I'm super pale) - so they have been able to create more of a "1/2" or half-level for me, if you will. Then, she leads you to a room where you'll get undressed (you can leave on what your comfortable with, ie. underwear, bra, a particular bikini you brought with you - and if nothing else, you at LEAST have to put on the paper underwear they give you). When you're undressed and ready, you push a button, and the nice lady comes back in and you step inside the room that is within the room you are in - which, I admit, at first appears to be a small scary dungeon, but trust me, it's where all the magic happens! Following her instructions to "spread 'em", you raise your arms, move your legs, turn around, and do the hokey-pokey, while she literally air-brushes you like the most sought-after t-shirt on Myrtle Beach during Spring Break! I decided to get a spray tan as a last minute decision before a wedding. I had heard people mention Air Tan and it is in my neighborhood so I have it a shot. I was able to make an appointment for the next day and once I got there walked right in. Yelp offers $10 off when you check in so the price is about $25 before tip. It's just you and the sprayer in the room and they make you feel very comfortable. The whole process takes about 15 mins. I noticed that throughout the day I turned kind of a dirty green color bit after a shower that night I had a lovely, even tan. It has been over a week now and the tan is starting to fade. Siera at Air-Tan (at the downtown Indianapolis location) kills it EVERY time! She always makes me feel comfortable, and she is super fast. The appointment was easy to make, and the I was in and out the door in about 10 minutes! The woman was very friendly, direct and helpful. She walked me through all my options and provided a detailed description of the air tan process. She even gave me an after care card so I didn't have to memorize everything she said! I absolutely love this place. I have been looking for the perfect spray tan spot for years and I've finally found it! I've been an unlimited member (I've been going every week) since February and I have never once been disappointed in my tan. The staff is super friendly and make the whole experience of being naked in front of them seem oddly normal. The salon is always clean and most of the time they have appointments available for the time you're interested in (always book ahead though!!!) They have 5 different levels and the girls there are really great in helping you choose what level would look best on you. They are also super helpful in explaining how it all works so you understand the process which I love AND whole process takes only about 15 minutes at most. Although the employees do a good job and are professional during the spray, the tans always come off very quickly. Moreover, I am rating this way because of the customer service. I am a semi- regular customer and I am always shocked at the terrible customer service when I arrive. I always make an appointment, but I am never greeted or asked my name/given information about when I will be called back. Every time I have been- there are multiple employees standing by the cash register- talking and gossiping. It's extremely unprofessional. I understand there might be times that rooms are being cleaned etc, but this is NEVER explained to the customer. The last time I went there were LITERALLY 3 employees chitchatting while there were 6 people in the waiting room. Again, had it been explained what the wait was about- it wouldn't be an issue. However, I didn't hear them talk to anyone, greet anyone, explain WHY they were standing there while I had to wait ten minutes for my scheduled appt. etc. It has definitely gotten worse in the last year or so. Customer service should be more of a priority. I have heard this from multiple friends, including one who was a very regular customer but stopped going because of the terrible customer service. read more

Before I went to air-tan I searched for reviews and checked out their website to see how others liked it. All reviews were great and the website was nicely put together and provided the information that I needed to reassure me that this would be a good option. I've gotten spray tans before and have had my fair share of good and bad results. When I went to air-tan, the employee working was nice and helpful. Before the spray tan I was fairly pale and asked for a natural medium color. She recommend a 3. Directly afterwards, the color looked pretty good! If only it would have stayed that way... Within the next 24 hours I was 8 shades darker and looked like an umpa lumpa. It was COMPLETELY unnatural looking, not to mention the color seeped into my pores and looked like brown dark dots on certain areas of my body. And the color settled weird around my nose and mouth, and I looked like I had a mustache (and still sort of do)! I'm so disappointed. I did all of the before and after care steps, so I know that its not my doing. Also, my face and body is already getting blotchy and discolored (and i just got the spray tan 2 days ago)! I plan on going home right after work and attempt to scrub all of this spray tan off. I would not recommend going to air-tan. Even if I had gotten a lighter color (such as a 2 or 1), the application was uneven and the formula easily settled into my pores (and my pores aren't big!). read more
