I only tan when preparing for a vacation with the hopes that I can get a base tan so that I don't burn while on my getaway. I always make sure to go to Sun Tan City because they offer a variety of beds and their prices are decent for what you get. I always love the fastest bed, which is comfortable and has a specific feature that tans your face evenly. This location has always been a go-to, however, from my recent visits, it seems as though the service has gone downhill. When I went to go sign up for my month's worth of tanning with my husband and a friend, there was only one person working, and apparently signing up is a long process. Due to one person working and one person trying to sign us all up, there ended up being a very large line of people just waiting to get signed in to tan behind us. Being an already anxious person, the heavy breathing and eye rolling that ensued from the customers behind us made the experience stressful. On top of that, the one person working felt like she needed to explain to me and everyone in the building that she was the only one working and that someone else was supposed to be working at that time but that they hadn't arrived yet. It was clear that she was stressed and everyone else was stressed because of it. Finally, the other worker came in, and even though she saw the line of waiting people, she took her time taking her jacket off and then she tried to start having a conversation with the worker that had been there by herself. Being that there was a substantial line, I would have thought that she would have been more prompt in helping sign people in... Also, I'm weary of the cleaning procedures at this location. Prior to my recent visits, I was always comfortable in knowing that my tanning bed would be clean, however, there have been a couple times when I have gone to tan and a worker needed to clean a bed. Each time this has happened, they go out back for LITERALLY 20 seconds and they are miraculously back to tell me that my bed is ready. Now I make sure to wipe down the bed myself with a towel. This location definitely has some things to work out as far as their workers and customer service. read more

I stopped going to Sun Tan City in Biddeford because they were always so rude and dysfunctional. I was in the area on July 24th and needed a quick tan and thought..maybe there are new people and the rude manager Paige has been replaced. Iam now alway greeted with a hello and especially want to recognize Julia. She is an outstanding employee who goes out of her way to make you feel comfortable and get you what you want. You definitely need to either upgrade or invest in a new computer system because it never fails to be down each and every time I had come in the past..including today. A music system that works would be great too. Please let Julia know she is doing a great job and acts very professional. She has a can do attitude instead of a can't do. Give her a raise or at least a bonus. Great workers are hard to find!!! read more

This Sun Tan City certainly has some work to do. About 2 weeks ago, I came to the Biddeford Sun Tan City to start up a membership in preparation for an upcoming trip at the end of February. We arrived around 9:30 AM and were the only current customers in the store. It appeared there was only one staff member working at the time. We indicated to her that we were looking to start up a membership and she gave us our options and had us start filling out some paperwork. As we were standing there filling out our paperwork at least 7 guests came into the store to go tanning. The woman working greeted everyone that walked in and stated that she would be with them in just a moment; apologized for the wait and started talking trash about how her co-worker was late (not really our business and extremely unprofessional). The staff member continued working on our membership paperwork as the line continued to build. I understand that we were there first, however this line was all people just looking to go tanning. To get someone set up in a bed all that needed to be done was to scan a badge, select a bed and scan your finger.... super simple. We would have been completely understanding of the one staff member to ask us to briefly wait so that she could quickly get these people in their tanning beds..... I mean after all we are there trying to BECOME customers and watching her make people wait did not make me impressed as I would have been very upset if I was one of those customers in line. Finally another staff member did show up. Despite recognizing this long line of people, she decided to talk to the other staff member about the long line and how busy it was rather than jumping in and helping..... like really, c'mon. Finally we were all situated and signed up. Given the amount of people that had come in while registering, there was a short wait for my bed. As I was waiting, a friend that I had come with was tanning in bed 4 (pretty sure it was #4). After he exited the room he came directly to the waiting room to sit with me. Neither of the 2 staff members went to the room to do any cleaning or sanitizing and within 30 seconds they advised a waiting guest that room 4 was all set..... again, really! Even if it is a stand up, you need to go check the room and make sure that it is clean and that there is a fresh towel for the next guest!!! Pick up your game Biddeford Sun Tan City! read more

I've been an on again off again Sun Tan City member for many years. A few months back I went to receive a spray tan at the Portland location and had an absolutely frustrating experience that led me back to the Biddeford location. In Portland I had purchased a sunless product bundle that included 2 spray tans and was so put off by my experience. The spray booth smelled like urine and it did not last as long as they usually do. I've spray tanned for many years and ensure I maintain it so that was not due to user error. About a month or two after that experience I went to the Biddeford location because in the past I had always had good experiences there. I was under the impression I still had a spray tan from my bundle and was informed by the manager at this location that they have an expiration date when purchased as a product bundle. I was upset because the girl who sold it to me initially did not inform me of that at all! The manager understood and could clearly see my frustration so she made the effort to call customer service and get a courtesy tan for me! She went above and beyond for me and ensured that I felt welcome in her salon. I was so satisfied I signed up for a membership and have had nothing but wonderful experiences every time I am there! The manager and her staff...especially Briaunna...are all fabulous and make sure I know about the current specials and any new products that they think would work for me. I can tell these women work so hard to keep their salon in top shape and despite how difficult it can be to find good consistent help I think the management here works over time to make sure her clients have a positive and welcoming experience! I'm completely disappointed in your sevices...I was lied to on the phone by a girl named Christina stating first time customers would get their first sunless tan for free...and Sami was telling me she couldn't do it. So I drove here with the impression you could do it because that's what Christina told me! I'm disappointed and certainly will never use your services again...I'll also spread the word....unfortunately first impressions count in my book...and so doesn't honest customer service! I really like the tanning here but the staff is rude and clueless. They are always short staffed and hire the dumbest people. Honestly, buying a tanning package should be a simple process. Everyone here seems confused about how to work the computer system and also seem confused about how to act in a business environment. I give Suntan City negative stars. I am caught up in the teenage daughter I need a tan phase. Suntan City forces a working parent to go to the location to cancel or put a membership on hold. Before the holidays I called the location and tried to cancel my daughter's membership. I called corporate saying it was a very busy time at work and I didn't have the time to walk into our location to cancel. They proceeded to talk about a contract I signed and what was in the contract but I was never provided a copy of the contract. Furthermore, there is a fine line between cancelling a membership and putting a membership on hold. Do you think they should have explained that to me? Most definitely. So when I walked in to renew the membership they told me because I cancelled the membership they were going to charge me for a renewal. Imagine my surprise when I went to "renew" my daughter's membership. So instead of renewing because if I wait until the 23rd I can renew for a dollar (why not give it to me now) I signed for 5 visits for $10. No where in there papers or on there website does it truly describe what this program means, The poor girl at our local location got the wrath of my confusion. And to top it off, the poor trainee was left alone with me while the manager was hiding in the office 2 steps away and couldn't come out and help her. Suntan City is a racket. I think it is by gangsters. The business practice is very sketchy. And the fact that the local locations have no authority is really devious. At the end of the day,they hang their hat on a document that you supposedly sign that you never get to see or read. Shame on me for catering to my daughter but it will be short lived. I notice they do not have locations in the biggest cities for a reason. Shame on all of us for keeping them in business. My rating is truly a negative number!!!! read more

Good pricing, affordable monthly plans, pleasant staff, and always have some kind of special going on. Very clean beds and booths, and they almost always get you in quickly. The only thing that drives me nuts is that they always ask you about your previous purchases ("How are you loving [Brand X] lotion?"). But I guess it's a good way for them to get feedback. read more

I thought that going to Sun Tan City in Biddeford would be easy and convenient as it's on my way home. Every time I have gone there it's been an unpleasant and downright UNFRIENDLY place and experience. I've had rude attitudes, had to listen to stories of the girls personal lives which some things should not be said in public, and have been ignored! Today...1/14...will be the last time I ever step into that business. I went to tan only to walk through the door and the first thing that came out of the woman's mouth behind the counter is " Just to let you know our computer is down". No "hi", no apologies, and then ignored. I do fully understand that she was frustrated and concentrating on fixing the issue. But keep customer service with you at all times as I work in customer service. I found a tanning salon which was much nicer, cleaner, and the staff is so much more pleasant AND they talked to me about all their specials going on! Island Tan in Saco. Terrible customer service, suckered me into buying a $50 lotion used it and then they told me not to use it on my face and that for extra money I could buy a face lotion. I also was not told to wear eye protection after two sessions someone finally told me. read more

I would just like to start off by saying, I usually tan at the Portland location however, recently I have been tanning at the Biddeford location and was very excited to found out that Penny, my favorite girl ever, (formerly from the Portland location) is the salon director for the Biddeford location! I have been driving 35 mins a day (each way) a couple days a week to tan in Biddeford and will continue to do so, Thanks to Penny!!! I love Penny so much, it was a pleasure seeing Penny as always! I'm looking forward to seeing her more! She has an amazing personality, always smiling, she's very friendly, always up beat and most importantly she goes out of her way to provide exceptional customer service, to every individual customer! WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE !!!! was calling in reference to a charge to my account and was asking question. Brianna at the Biddeford maine location was less than helpful and would just keep cutting me off and wasn't listening to what I was trying to explain. Basically her attitude was so sad to bad. As I was trying to talk more about this situation she said I have to put you on hold I have clients in front of me. I said to her really that I am a customer with an issue asked for her manager number said cant give out. asked get message to her well she runs 5 salons don't know when she would get back to you. Wanted to get this resolved and then says I have 3 clients coming through the door, told her she was being rude and she said I have to go and hung up on me. I got a sunless spray tan here. It turned out badly....It was all blochly and uneven all over my arms and legs. I have gotten a spray tan before in other places and this had never happened. The booth was really grimy. I could tell it had been used a ton because the grippy strips on the floor were worn off in most places. read more
