Having dark hair and wanting highlights and lowlights to give your hair dimension is not always easy. Processing dark hair can take on reddish or brassy hues. Not with Jenna- I always leave the salon with a smile on my face and stylish lob with subtle layers. The vibe at the salon is comfortable, friendly and inviting. We are new to Acapello Salon. I scheduled an appointment for my teen daughter, who has very long, thick hair and was looking for a transformation. She scheduled with Nicholas for a cut and color. After the initial consultation, we chose a style and color a few shades darker. He did an amazing job! The cut and style was absolutely gorgeous and really complimented her facial features. The darker color was perfect and I am glad I trusted his recommendations. Her hair is so soft and shiny. He suggested products to help maintain the color and care of her hair, which we purchased. I booked an appointment here to have highlights/roots touched up. I got there, everyone was nice and the vibe was great. When the appointment was over, my hair was still damp, so after I got home and dried it, the roots were orange and the bottom was calico like. I called and explained, they rebooked me for the next day. Went back in and left with still left with awful hair. The girl who did my hair apologized repeatedly and seemed as though as sorry as she was, she wasn't admitting her mistakes but she knows she did an awful job. Other employees and the owner all stood by and said nothing! This has been the worst hair job to date for me. And 200 dollars for this hair!?!? Next time I will take my chances with a box dye. Before I start, I would just like to say even though I don't recommend the salon highly, I think the stylists do their best with what they have. Salons were just opening back up after COVID-19 and I wanted to get my hair done finally. I wanted to go from medium brown (my natural color with year old highlights) to lavender purple. The website said it would be $88+, for a Double Process, and this seemed to be the best option to book for what I wanted, even though there was nothing explaining what a double process actually was. I walk into the salon, my stylist was very nice and polite but she tells me I booked the wrong thing for what I am asking. I explain I booked a double process and there didn't seem to be anything that was a better fit for what I wanted. My stylist explains it may take longer and that I may have to come back for a second session but she begins the lightening process in my hair. From lightening my hair to then dying it to get to what I wanted took five hours which they did explain to me and I was alright with. Cutting and styling also came with the package. When asked if I wanted it cut I said, yes a few inches and my stylist said she would, but I don't believe she ever did aside from two pieces in the very front. When the process was over the color was very nice, (there was never anything done to the roots as per request) but my hair felt extremely damaged. Now, since it took 5 hours I was expecting something a bit pricy, $120-170, maybe even $200 at the maximum was what I was expecting. They charged me $260. They never told me they were adding anything or what my price would add up to along the way. After tax and tip it was $290. I left the salon with $20 dollars in my bank account. $290 is more than a weeks pay for me at the moment. I was upset at all that money but at the time I was very happy with the color so I was okay with it in some capacity. I wash my hair one time (with not color lasting shampoo because I didn't have any money left to buy it) and the color immediately faded to a very light grayish purple, with my hair also being extremely damaged, and there were still some brown spots left in the back. The back of my shirt also got bleach stains on it but luckily I was only wearing an old t-shirt. I was heartbroken and a few days later I scheduled an appointment with them to fix it. I get there not expecting them to charge me anything, because they were fixing something they already charged me for, right? They wanted to charge me $40 for fixing it because I didn't use Aveda brand color lasting shampoo. I told them I couldn't afford that and started to walk out when they said instead of charging me I'll have to buy the shampoo. (An 8.5 fluid ounce bottle for $25.) I didn't want to leave with -$290 AND gray hair so I gave them my emergency money and bought the shampoo. When I got home I found there were STILL brown spots left in the back. It's been about 3 weeks now since I got it fixed and the hair is already going blonde near the top along with the pieces of brown and odd colored pieces in the back. I've only been using the shampoo I bought from them along with a color lasting conditioner. I wash my hair every 2-3 days. I am extremely sad I paid so much for my hair to not be the way I wanted it. I am also not displeased with my stylist or any of the others but the salon itself. PLEASE do your research before going for a color or bleach job. read more

If i could give this place zero stars I would. If you dont have white girl straight hair DO NOT COME HERE. My stylist had ZERO idea how to do my hair. The way she blow dried it left it so frizzy and she was seriously going to leave it that way. I basically had to tell her how to fix it with the hot iron. You could see how upset I was all over my face and I definitely let her know how I felt about the horrible job she was doing. Always happy with my hair after I get it done by Nic. He has done my hair since I was in high school and he's the only one who has ever understood exactly what I wanted when I asked. I've followed him to a bunch of different salons and will continue to do so if I am able to make the drive. I'm so happy he's back in Maine, and encourage anyone nervous for a new stylist to book an appointment with him. He is very easy going and makes you feel comfortable. This is the BEST salon I have ever been to. I cannot give enough praise to the staff of this salon. For $115, you can get: -cut, style, wash, dry ($35) -highlights ($55 for partial foil) -flat iron ($10) -eyebrow wax ($15) -makeup touch-up (free- kudos to Vickie for a great job!) Not convinced of how great this place is yet? Let me tell you how amazing my hair looks. I've been looking for a good stylist for years. Cassie is now that stylist. My hair looks amazing. I have never had so many compliments on it! It is just the right color and Cassie really worked with my hair to create a style that is very manageable while still being chic. This particular Acapello is in an old house. It's so beautiful and comfortable inside. The staff will take you on a tour and tend to you to be sure that you are enjoying your experience. The range of salon services here is great and everything is reasonably priced. I live in Massachusetts, but I promise you I'll be headed back up to Maine every time I need to get my hair done. Horrible and incompetent service from Maggie at the Falmouth location on July 23, 2022 and March 5, 2022. Inexcusable treatment I received after the service when I attempted to contact the salon and the manager, Tina, about it. I asked for my hair to be a cool, ash blond with no gold and instead had my hair bleached out and bright gold. This happened not once, but twice. The first time was in March 5, 2022. Maggie said that she wasn't sure why it came out gold as she had mixed the formula for the cool ash blond. She said maybe it was the lighting and it would look different in the natural light. She said to call in a couple of days if it wasn't right and we could do something different next time. It never got better. I called the salon on March 8th and left a message with the person who answered the phone but didn't get a call back from Maggie. I decided to email her but received no response to the email either. I emailed the manager, Tina at the Scarborough location. Tina finally called and after we talked, she had me come back to the salon on Friday March 11th so Maggie could correct the color. When I was there, Maggie said that she thinks the problem was that she used the Paul Mitchell formula instead of Aveda and would use the Aveda formula. It came out much better but still with some gold in it. She said she appreciated the second chance. When I went back on July 23rd for a routine root touch up, the same thing happened which happened the first time, except it was worse. I had no idea anything was wrong until she was shampooing out my hair, and said she was going to add a toner to take out the brassiness. She came back and said she was going to do a bleaching shampoo. She applied the bleaching shampoo and shampooed that in for several minutes. She rinsed that out and added the toner and let that sit for a while. After she shampooed that out, she said we were all set and brought me back to the chair. I was shocked by what I saw. My hair was a bright orange gold and bleached out. She clearly knew she had done something wrong but didn't say a word. I called the Scarborough salon on July 25th and left a message to have Tina call me and the reason for my call. Called twice more with no return phone call. On July 29th, I emailed Tina at the Scarborough email address outlining the problem and asking for a return call to discuss. I received no phone call or email back. I finally emailed Tina again on August 6th, and requested a full refund, since she obviously wasn't willing to work with me or even acknowledge the problem. sent a regular letter to the owner, June, which was received at the business in August. I again received no phone call, email or any response whatsoever. Completely unprofessional and not at all what a true Aveda salon should be. I had to go to another Aveda salon and had it fixed in one, simple visit by an experienced, professional stylist. Avoid the Falmouth location, unless you want your hair ruined. I am so so so happy with my haircut. I had long, thick, dark black hair, and I was really scared about getting it cut. But my stylist, Monique, was simply amazing. She listened to everything I had to say before we started, and she was very receptive to my concerns/wishes. But at the same time, she had a creative mind and knew exactly what to do with my hair. She has a really good sense of style, and she is willing to work with you to find a cut that would suit you. The salon itself is very nice too! Its really well designed, clean, and has a great environment. The service is really friendly, and I love how they have turned an old house into a fancy/modern salon. I went here with a bridal party to get out hair done for the wedding. All of the girls were really sweet and the salon was incredibly accommodating. They allowed us to bring champagne and have some mimosas as they did our hair. They also let us play music too! The bride's mom needed nail polish to fix her nails and they let her borrow some, which I thought was generous. In terms of my updo, I had no idea what I wanted and was really indecisive; however, my stylist, Steph, was patient and took me through every step to give me options as we went. Have been to Acapello salons in the past and had great experiences. However, my stylist moved away and I moved to a new area so I thought I'd try the Saco location. It was horrendous. The inside is trashy and I had to the misfortune of Cerisse. She was 20+ minutes late and offered no apology, nor did she introduce herself. She was overly aggressive with my head (and I can take a lot!) and never once spoke to me, opting instead to talk around me. The shampoo room is usually my favorite, quiet part but she took even that from me by leaving the door open and the lights blasting in my eyes. She didn't dye my hair properly, leaving a huge tuft of gray at the temples. The color was fine overall, though she made unusual choices with where she dropped the light pieces (underneath). She seemed very surprised that it came out okay. She didn't listen to what I wanted for my cut but by then I was done. She did not offer to rebook me which is fine, I won't be back. read more

I have been to several different Aveda Salons but this is by far the worst!!! The girl that did my brows made them uneven; one side was normal while the other she ripped out too much in the center to the point of there only being a few hairs just in the center arch. She really messed up. I voiced my concern to the lady at the front desk who looked closely and said,.. oh it looks like you have some blond hair... Are you kidding me!?!!! I don't have an ounce of blond hair on my body. Don't make excuses and tell me I have blond hair when I clearly have no hair! She then proceeded to tell me that I needed to fill it in. Yeah,... Because YOU MESSED UP!!!! They don't stand behind their service or offer compensation or anything when they clearly rip only ONE of your brows almost off. The lady I went to was supposedly one of their best at brows. I was so embarrassed to go out in public for the next few weeks. Worst experience ever! Never again!!! Save yourself & instead go to the professionals at the Brow bar at Ulta in Portland. They are quick, professional & highly recommended. Well worth the drive!!! Also, if you need something in town Sparrow hair studio in Saco is pretty good with brows for only $12, but you have to leave a vm and they will call back with an appt. read more

I unfortunately had a very poor experience recently. The stylist seemed uncomfortable doing foil highlights, they look much longer than I'm used to, and it was quite painful. She said my hair was so thick and kept sighing, I felt the need to apologize for having long/thick hair, which I did, to which she replied "Your hair is testing my patience."I felt very uncomfortable throughout the experience and looking back on it, I should have gotten up and left right at the beginning. Once the highlights were done and she started cutting my hair, I noticed that the highlights were not very apparent at all as I had hoped. I let her know I just wanted the ends trimmed and the front reshaped with a few layers throughout. She ended up cutting the front right side of my hair extremely short, chunky "shelf-like", without blending. It was not the same length as the other side of my hair at all. I brought it up to her when she said she was done and asked what I thought. I asked if she could blend the right side more. It was appearing like a distinct shorter shelf compared to the rest of my hair. She was clearly upset that I brought it up, and proceeded to cut my hair on that side only, even shorter. I was really uncomfortable, almost in tears at this point. I just said it was fine, and got up and left. The front desk associate could tell that I was upset, but I wasn't able to formulate my thoughts at that point, plus the stylist was right there. I contacted her by phone and setup an appointment to have my hair fixed the next day. I didn't feel like there was empathy or understanding on the other line, unfortunately. The following morning I cancelled this appointment, and decided to go elsewhere to have my hair fixed. I attempted to contact the owner several times via phone/email to discuss my experience but I never heard anything back. I paid $105 for services that I had to take time out of my workday the following day to get fixed. I work in customer service management, and have for almost 10 years. Knowing the importance of listening to our customers, and ensuring that they feel comfortable at all times for our own business, makes me all the more disappointed that I was not at least contacted by the salon owner. read more

Went there to get my roots done (I'm blonde), I work in the area and I had time to kill. Was quoted $83 on the phone. They charged me 120 when I went to leave bc evidently the hairstylist did my hair a different way then the 83 dollar way, without asking me! Then I look at my hair and realize I STILL have roots! So after getting convinced by my friends to call (I am not one to complain) I called back..first (before I said anything) I was put on hold for several minutes until the line disconnected, then I called back and got the voicemail. Finally after the 3rd try I got someone and they said they would redo my hair. I went in the next day and the woman who did my hair (not the original person) was so rough yanking on my hair and head that I left with a massive headache, then she told me the previous person left a big chunk out of the back of my hair so she was going to fix it...lo and behold after she was done and after all that I had roots!! ALL I EVER ASKED FOR WAS TO HAVE MY ROOTS DONE, HOW HARD COULD IT BE? ! Side note: the place is in a house and the coloring gets done upstairs (not handicap accessible) at a circular table with other customers sitting around. The table has a stained, dingy cloth (both days I went). So just in general, not impressed. Don't waste your money when you could get much better service and environment for the cost. read more

The hairdresser next to me was doing her sister's hair. They ordered pizza, french fries, and a sub which they proceeded to eat next to me while I was getting my hair highlighted. The water alternated between very hold and ice cold the entire time my hair was washed. When I went to the chair for my cut it was covered in hair. The hair dresser Cassie quickly used a blow dryer to get the hair off but the chair was still coated and the floor was covered. Was never asked if I wanted a glaze or informed it would be an additional $40 charge. Unsanitary and not good customer service. Would not return or recommend. read more

The spa in Saco is an old building converted to a spa and salon. The owner tried to keep as much of the antiquity they were able to giving this spa a unique quality compared to other spas I've experienced. It is a beautiful calming place however while I was having a facial I could hear people chatting in the hallway outside my door but only for a few minutes. Other than that it was a wonderful relaxing experience. The staff is eager to please and accommodating. Their aesthetician Brea, is bubbly and friendly, and exuded a very calm demeanor during my facial. She spent a little extra time on me since I hadn't had a facial in a while. Their massage therapist, Christine, is a very calming and focused professional. She knew exactly what to focus on to help me relax. I would recommend this place to any of my friends and family and I am definitely going back. read more

Disclaimer: I never got my hair cut. I called at 10am to price out a simple cut and blow dry (they opened at 9). I was put on hold for several minutes when a different woman picked up the phone and asked if I had curls. I said no. Fast forward to another few minutes later when the original woman on the phone picks up and says cuts start at $40. I asked what may cause a cut to cost more, and she said " a variety of things". Overall, my experience was ok. I have very curly hair and came in for a partial highlight and root touch-up. I found it odd that you have to move to several different parts of the house for different types of work. For example, I had to go upstairs to a room with a circular table for my color...everyone getting their color done sits at the table together. Odd. Then we went downstairs to rinse/wash my hair. The chairs were incredibly uncomfortable. I'm not sure if it's because I'm short (5'2") but man, I've never been so uncomfortable getting my hair washed. We went back upstairs for some reason, I don't recall why but I know we went back down for her to dry my hair. It's pretty rare for stylists to be able to get my hair to look ok unless they full out straighten it, but she didn't...it was just frizzy. I don't judge based on that since i've almost never met a stylist that could make my curls look good. If we stopped there, I'd rate a four star because the stylist did a good job with the coloring...what shocked me (and is the reason for only 3 stars) was the total. Partial highlights and root touch-up and a hair oil was $220 BEFORE tip. Even if the hair oil was $50, that would have been $170 for the highlights and roots which still seems outrageous. I did not get a haircut, I didn't get a style so I was genuinely shocked at the cost. Anyway, I haven't been back (this was in February) but not because of the work, simply because of the cost. If it was less expensive, I would definitely rate it higher and be back. read more

I have found my HG salon in Maine. Amazing! I walked in there (hesitantly) after a complete disaster experience at Hair Excitement in Biddeford. I had gone in for a color (medium to dark ash blonde), and the stylist colored my hair what came out a level 4 or 5 shade which was bad enough, but only a "band" of my hair including my root, and put a toner only on the remainder of my hair. I left the salon with my hair two very different colors, very dark, with almost 6 inches of hair cut off and layered - which I had specifically asked for him NOT to do. So after 2+ months, I finally got up the courage to go for a corrective coloring. An appointment was made with Alex and what she did with my hair was short of a miracle! She had to deal with the color correction, in addition to 1.5 inches of dark roots with lots of grey. Quite the job. And my hair is now absolutely gorgeous. I was thrilled with my experience from my first call to Acapello (Michelle is a lovely receptionist) to walking out the door at the end of my service. Incredibly professional and warm staff, beautiful and comfortable salon and setup, and they know their stuff! Alex is definitely top notch - in addition to the beautiful corrective coloring, she also blended the choppy cut I was given (literally chunks were taken out in the 'layering process' that i specifically asked not to have done at the other salon) - and she did it without sacrificing any more length. And I walked out paying far less than I thought it was going to cost me to fix everything. I will never go anywhere else in Maine again. Highly recommend. A++! read more

I had two bad haircuts in a row. I came to Acapello to fix it and I am really happy that I did. I was able to book an appointment the same day I had called, and I saw Cassie. We had a really good consultation, unlike so many consultations I've had at other salons that take 5 seconds before the stylist starts snipping away. Cassie asked me a bunch of questions about my hair and about what I wanted in my haircut, and I feel like she really listened to me. Plus, she was friendly, smart, and gave me a great haircut, communicating with me the whole time to make sure I was getting what I wanted. Plus, it was only $40 for a wash, cut, and dry. First when you walk in they immediate ask you if you want something to drink and the experience is the equivalent of going into a store that pay's commission to the sales people that say "Can I help you?" Acappello folks will say "Want something to drink?" next person comes by "Want something to drink?" It would be nice if they at least say "Hi" first. During my hair cut, the stylist gave me a sales pitch for every product she was putting in my hair. Not a relaxing time. I was held captive by the used car salesman. On my way home, my head started to itch really bad and called and the hairstylist just said that she would put it on my record. By the time I got home my head was burning. I couldn't wash my hair fast enough to get out the mess. $42 flushed down the drain in a matter of minutes and the hair cut is horrible my back is 2 inches shorter than my sides. I have to get it fixed. Cleanliness: The hair salon is dirty. The back of the hair dryer's screen is so filthy that it looks clogged. Just waiting for a fire to start. Base boards are dirty with the splash. It looks brown water splashed. I had the pleasure to look into the laundry while getting a hair cut and could see the strings from the towels all over the floor and stylist walking by and no one bent over to pick it up. This is a spa. I guess it's too much to ask for a clean experience. Worst Experience EVER! read more
