Even from our first consultation, we exchanged contact information and before my first appointment had time for me to send pictures from Pinterest of what I wanted my dyed hair to look like. Not only that, but she then did her own looking online to find similar ideas and photos to send to me to really verify that she was certain about the specific look I was going for. You can feel that they really CARE about how your look turns out here, which is a nice feeling - instilled from the first moment I walked in and was immediately offered a drink while I waited on a comfortable couch for my appointment to start. (their shop is SO CUTE.) When it came to actually getting the hair dyed and trimmed, again the process was very communicative and all about MY input on what I wanted, which was great. Natalie also is a joy to talk to and kept me entertained with a string of friendly conversation the whole way through. Price-wise, I have had my hair dyed at a fair amount of places and this was definitely the cheapest, by at least $30-$40 dollars, yet I had not a single complaint with my hair and have been so incredibly happy with how the dyeing turned out. Led by owner Guy Eau Clair, he and his staff treat their clientele to the best in quality and innovation in hair care. I'm one of a very few men who I've seen here, but I can assure you that years of barbering at other places gives me a superb perspective on what right looks like. I won't go anywhere else. The quality standard is such that on several occasions, Guy has had another Salon professional take care of me to the same universally excellent standard. The Salon environment is hip, comfortable, and attentive. You won't sit without a beverage. Appointments are always executed on time. I told her I'm really bad at explaining what I want but I just want to freshen up my roots for this weekend which I have a special event and my hair was looking too dark on the top and light on the bottom. I showed a few different pictures hoping she could choose one that was realistic and worked with what I have, making it clear I don't really know or care what exactly I want done but overall just needed to lighten the roots even just a little bit kinda pull a little lightness up for a fresh and cleaner look. I told her I understand it's not going to be exactly like any of the pics or perfect in any way, but she wasn't willing to try anything.. literally asked me to leave, saying we're not a good fit. I was shocked. I asked if she could at least do something, like a few highlights or even just toner or SOMEthing, and that I would come back again so we could work toward my desired look little by little. She didn't even offer to blow dry it so I would at least have nice hair for my event, she just kicked me out because I didn't have an exact specific thing I wanted done, or I guess it wasn't clear enough to her. I was forced to leave the salon with the same frizzy salon-day-just-woke-up-hair/ ready-to-get-my-hair-done hair, which completely ruined my plans for the day and the weekend as now I have to make time to wash and style and do my own hair on a very tight schedule. I almost feel like I did something wrong since I literally got kicked out of her salon, like I'm being punished. I'm a pretty shy/polite person; I was smiling the whole time and just wanted her professional input. After getting asked to leave I sat in the parking lot for an hour, sort of in shock, and started calling other salons to see if I could get a last minute appointment. But of course now it's late on a Friday afternoon so I have no choice but to make do with this frizzy mess for my special weekend. I'm in absolute shock. Very cold and unfriendly atmosphere. And then I read about this rare (what I thought was a mythical) creature - a stylist who actively cared about what her clients wanted, while also providing brutally honest feedback about their current hair situation and their hair vision, but then worked with them to achieve something otherworldly. Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating, but that's how I've felt. I came to Kaitlyn with a tangly brown limp mess. I wanted an ombre (a multi toned hair effect) of my natural hair color to white then blue. Instead she offered up a moderate balyage (highlights blending seamlessly) of aquatic. The next time I saw her, more of my hair was balayaged with aquatic, and now basically my whole head is aquatic colored. She transformed me into a sea queen, and everywhere I go people compliment my mermaid hair (no, really, they do). And I legit had nothing to do with it. I never thought I'd have ocean-inspired hair, but it looks so natural that the first time I did it people were like "yeah, that's how you were always supposed to look." WHAT? She also trims me up and offers advice on how to manage the style (french braids are a go, messy buns always work, pony's should be avoided, and can we bring back the scrunchie already?). And I know, without a doubt, that the moment I were to walk in and say, "I'm done with this, could I have something 'normal' please?" she'd find the exact perfect look for me, my face structure, my skin tone, my personality. My partner also sees her every four to five weeks; she keeps his hair and beard line fresh. Love the studio itself - it's small but very modern, minimalist chic. There's ONLY street parking, so if you're in it for more than two hours you might wanna consider Ubering. Also, there are other talented stylists who work here, so maybe go see them? A SHEAR-NIGHTMARE!…read more My friend Jenn referred me to Salon Paragon and said the owner, Shawn Durost does a great haircut. Upon calling the salon, I had left 2 messages before finally getting a call back- 5 days later. I should've taken this as a sign to walk away, but, I figured maybe they were just busy and decided to scheduled a cut and highlights with him anyway. The moment I arrived, I felt like it was social hour. Stylists were goofing around and had an overall-lackadaisical behavior; more like I was in a coffee shop then a professional establishment. I sat down and proceeded to discuss with Shawn what I was looking for. I asked for a touch up of my natural honey colored highlights and a trim to take off the dead stuff. Where did things go wrong?! I received CHUNKS of SILVERY WHITE hair!! I was horrified! It made me look like I had old witch hair! He saw my face and quickly turned me away from the mirror and said it would look different once it was dry. As he began cutting, I could see my hair was being cut REALLY SHORT, with tons of layers. He then starting cutting with these big, chunky scissors with "teeth". I had never seen these before and couldn't see exactly what he was doing, but I could feel hair being cut close to my roots. After the blowdry, I was turned to the mirror. I was so upset that I fell silent. The pretty hair I walked in with had been transformed into a hideous, Halloween-like wig. It was now a dirty GREYISH blonde color that felt dry and gross (despite all the greasy product he put in to "hide" it). My length was taken off and replaced with short, mullet-like layers; I felt like I had "Joe Dirt's" hair. Looking back, I shouldn't have paid and/or requested a refund. Upon "inspecting" Shawn's work later that afternoon, and, just when I thought it could get ANY worse, I saw that the front of my hair had literally been CUT OFF at the root!! It was a big wide CHUNK of hair- just gone; MISSING!! I was so angry, I almost called to get his insurance policy and file a claim for damages. My husband talked me down from pursuing legal action. My girlfriend Jenn was mortified, saying she doesn't dare return. It is terribly upsetting and frustrating that an OWNER of a salon would be so AMATUER and NEGLIGENT with someone's hair.
