Avoid Sheridan Nurseries at all cost! Fresh cut Christmas trees average $200 and they are…read moreridiculously skinny, have huge gaps between the branches, rarely have a "good side", stop absorbing water within days of being brought inside (even if freshly cut minutes before putting it in a stand full of water), last less than 10 days before they are totally dried up and dead, drop needles absolutely everywhere and there are very few trees left to choose from unless you are looking for a short Balsam. It is shocking to me that people are still being scammed into buying exorbitantly priced trees from them given how incredibly terrible they are. People might as well go to a supermarket and buy a tree for $50 since they would be getting an even better quality tree than they would get at Sheridan Nurseries. This sort of practice should be prohibited from continuing and the company should be called out for their false advertising (website and posts showing gorgeous trees, different types and heights and ample selection) when in fact they started letting customers pre-order trees starting in early November so when they receive shipments, the employees search through the trees for the nicest ones and those trees then go to fill all the pre-orders, leaving only the awful trees to choose from. They lie to customers to get them into the store and only then do the customers realize the trees that are left are nothing like the ones advertised. Sheridan Nurseries knows that many, many customers cannot shop around at different stores for a tree so they are essentially a captured audience who then feel compelled to buy a tree despite the atrocious quality and outrageous price tag. Sorry for my rant but I am so tired of businesses ripping off their customers, especially when discretionary spending for many people is now a huge struggle. Customers' expectations to get what they pay for are completely legitimate and they shouldn't even have to think about the possibility of receiving an inferior product or service when paying a premium or the top end of the market. I truly hope people will stop supporting them.

Visited the Davenport/Dupont location for the first time. I've become a Crazy Plant Lady(tm) so…read moreI've been obsessively seeking out house plants this season. Here are my completely arbitrary and subjective opinions: PROS: * Staff were super friendly and helpful. I've lost track of how many times I've tried to talk to someone in a big box nursery or in a mom and pop corner store to ask something as simple as "What is this plant?" (because it was unlabeled) or "How much sun does this need?" to be met with a blank stare or bored indifference. * Plants were in good condition. They were not soggy and over-watered (which can attract spider mites or fungus gnats) and the roots were not overgrown and growing out of from the bottom the plastic nursery pots (which indicate that the plants have been sitting there for a LONG time.) * SO! MUCH! SOIL! I look for a very specific soil as it's considered the best in the market (ProMix, FYI) and I had to make separate trips to Home Depot, Can Tire AND Rona to find the different types I needed (basic soil, cactus, tropical) as they don't stock them all. But the Davenport location carries all the types. Huzzah! * SO! MANY! POTS! I love me some basic terra cotta pots, and they carry pots that are made in Italy and Germany at prices that are comparable to big box stores. (The pots themselves are heavier and sturdier, and have a waterproof finish so that the clay doesn't absorb water.) CONS: * The plants are more expensive than a big box store, but it's not extortionate. I'm also more than happy to support a local independent business by paying a few extra bucks. I've bought plants at the Evergreen Brickworks Garden Market and the prices are on par with them. * One of the plants I bought was a bit yellowed, as it was underwatered. (I actually prefer to buy drier-looking plants, as there's less of a chance of it being infested.) In hindsight, I could've probably asked for a bit of a discount on it. (But the plant itself is still healthy and blooming, so it's not a big deal.)

The staff (specificaly Cheyenne) were so enthusiastic offering ideas and fun facts about how to care for the plants at home. I went to buy some plants to grow along side my daughter. (I was pregnant and thought it would be…read moreso nice to have a plant like that!) I didn't notice at first, but there was someone tailing me. I walked back and forth to be certain. Soon he was just standing two feet away from me. I ended up buying some plants (which I probably shouldn't have. One had some sort of blight.) I was going to ask for help at the counter. However, they were pretty rude at the cash and it was then I realized the follower worked there. Then two of them followed me all the way to the car. I don't know if they thought my pregnant belly was a plant or something, but I was just wearing a summer dress and sandals. No where to hide anything. Plus I was holding my wallet. No purse at all. Honestly, I was scared of the two workers following me. I called my friend to tell her just in case they decided to jump me. When I got to the car, they stared at me and quickly put my plants in the back, then drive away. I have never seen such behaviour and I'm still wondering if they were planning to jump or attack me. I will not shop there again.
