Never buy from this store. They are very rude. Didn't want to help us with our questions and rush us to do the payment.

I made an online purchase early March and the transaction went through on my credit card, but they cancelled the order, which I found out accidentally by confirming the pick up time for April 1st. The store still doesn't appear to be open, even though it's gardening season. They aren't checking VMs. I sent an email, which they advise on the website, but still no response. Their website simply states they re-open the beginning of April when weather permits. Very unprofessional. They must not need clients. read more

Davenport Garden Centre is overflowing with beautiful flowers, herbs, and hanging baskets for your yard or patio. While prices are a bit higher than the average place, they are not bad. Customer service is good here. They know their stuff and are generally helpful with advice. (It is advisable to ask before you leave if you don't know much about caring for plants.) read more

I don't remember the last time I left a store feeling so mistreated. I was treated with such disrespect by Carla, the owner of the store. I was pre sold damaged plants online during covid, at a time when I could not choose what I was buying. When I came to speak to Carla the least she could have done was help me understand how to replenish the crappy birds of paradise plants she sold me if she wasn't willing to exchange them for the beautiful ones sitting in her store on display 10 days later. Carla's time was to valuable to give me more then 10 seconds of her time. Carla aggressively dismissed me as if she ran the only garden centre in Toronto, like she is some big shot. Carla the owner is an angry person, who is disgustingly rude to pretty much anyone and everyone. If you want to be mistreated, go to Davenport Garden Centre. Flower shops are a dime a dozen. The prices are high and the quality is hit or miss. I spent a lot of money in her store over the last couple months. I was completely dismissed as if my money wasn't worthy of her time so I will take my business where I am treating like a human being with dignity and respect. read more

I went to the Pape Avenue location which I didn't see here but I'm sure they are all the same. Same in that they have fantastic plants BUT...be prepared to pay prices that are significantly higher than if you buy anywhere else. In fact, there's a variety store on the corner from these guys and I found stuff almost $10 CHEAPER!!! Staff-wise there were two people there - a woman who did NOT seem all that approachable or helpful and a man who was way more engaging. Every year I get my garden from many sources: Supermarket Garden Shops, Home Depot, Rona, Canadian Tire and above-mentioned variety stores and after seeing what Davenport has to offer, I will be going back to them. I love my garden but not if it's going to bankrupt me!! I went there strictly out of curiosity. I thought they'd have a great selection, which they did, I thought a very knowledgeable staff member could give me some help, which he did but unless he was willing to pay for them, I walked out empty handed. read more

Visited the Davenport/Dupont location for the first time. I've become a Crazy Plant Lady(tm) so I've been obsessively seeking out house plants this season. Here are my completely arbitrary and subjective opinions: PROS: * Staff were super friendly and helpful. I've lost track of how many times I've tried to talk to someone in a big box nursery or in a mom and pop corner store to ask something as simple as "What is this plant?" (because it was unlabeled) or "How much sun does this need?" to be met with a blank stare or bored indifference. * Plants were in good condition. They were not soggy and over-watered (which can attract spider mites or fungus gnats) and the roots were not overgrown and growing out of from the bottom the plastic nursery pots (which indicate that the plants have been sitting there for a LONG time.) * SO! MUCH! SOIL! I look for a very specific soil as it's considered the best in the market (ProMix, FYI) and I had to make separate trips to Home Depot, Can Tire AND Rona to find the different types I needed (basic soil, cactus, tropical) as they don't stock them all. But the Davenport location carries all the types. Huzzah! * SO! MANY! POTS! I love me some basic terra cotta pots, and they carry pots that are made in Italy and Germany at prices that are comparable to big box stores. (The pots themselves are heavier and sturdier, and have a waterproof finish so that the clay doesn't absorb water.) CONS: * The plants are more expensive than a big box store, but it's not extortionate. I'm also more than happy to support a local independent business by paying a few extra bucks. I've bought plants at the Evergreen Brickworks Garden Market and the prices are on par with them. * One of the plants I bought was a bit yellowed, as it was underwatered. (I actually prefer to buy drier-looking plants, as there's less of a chance of it being infested.) In hindsight, I could've probably asked for a bit of a discount on it. (But the plant itself is still healthy and blooming, so it's not a big deal.) read more

This is an update on a previous review that I gave 3 stars to that said, "Good selection but pricey". I purchased 4 pots of African Daisies (Osteospermum 4" pots) and they never did bloom more than a few small flowers even tho the clerk said they would flower. Not impressed! We have bought from them for years - but no more! PLEASE do not buy from Davenport. We are experienced gardeners; NONE of the plants we purchased this year did well, and we had to replace many of them. In contrast, those we bought at the grocery or corner store were terrific. It is very clear that, for whatever reason, the owner and her staff have completely lost interest in their products and their customers. It is a huge disappointment, though in truth we have observed their waning interest in quality for a couple of years now. The staff is no longer obliging or well informed - clearly it is "just a job" for them. And the owner - who used to be ubiquitous at all locations - is rarely around and, when she is, totally disinterested. You can easily spend hundreds of dollars on plants, and get nothing in the end. Toronto is a very difficult city to shop for anything in the plant and garden category when you don't have a car. Fortunately Davenport Garden Centre is accessible to bus and subway users. On top of that, the service is stellar and the selection is top notch. Of course, you get what you pay for, and all that good stuff doesn't come cheap. But then again, neither does a car! So there's your trade-off. We went today for a wreath and some holiday garland. Ended up with mistetoe too. Ooh-la-la! Not cheap, but the stuff is in great shape and they took care of us lickety-split and with ease. In a town where runners spit on me on the sidewalk*, there's definitely something to be said for service! *yea, for reals. Toronto is getting just as bad as NY for crazy rude people. I was walking up Yonge Street last week and some deranged runner passed me and (Maybe I didn't move out of his way fast enough?) turned and spit in my general direction. Don't worry! I'm from New York so I of course yelled after him and called him a loser. Which he was. He then proceeded to get into a fight with a cab driver at the next traffic light. So now you see why I am becoming more and more appreciative of polite and kind service. Have a nice day! read more

I just started giving gardening a try. It's been a very interesting experience so far. I went to Davenport Garden Centre last Saturday to get a few seedlings. The lady who helped me was friendly but it didn't seem to me that the plants were in good conditions. She knew it too so she suggested that she gives me a 50% discount on everything purchased. I called her later to ask for advice on how much I should water the plants. I don't think she was very pleased with my call. She sounded a bit rude over the phone and then before I could get a chance to speak, she said she had to let me go because she was with a client. I wouldn't go back to her as neither her plants are any good nor she is willing to give some advice to people that are just starting up. read more

DO NOT BUY FROM THESE RIP-OFF ARTISTS!!!! I purchased 5 Hicks Yews through their online website March 28 at a cost of $355.89 for my hedge comprising of Hicks Yews. The 5 bushes I ordered from Davenport Nurseries are clearly NOT Hicks Yews, but possibly Dense Spreading Yews which only get to 4 feet in height and spread up to 12 feet in width Clearly, not what I had ordered. Of course, it was impossible for me to know at the time that the bushes I had received were not Hicks yews because Yews look the same until you see their growth pattern. Management is refusing to refund or exchange my purchase. How am I at fault for their negligence?????! read more

I'm at that age where friends keep getting homes. Not apartments, not necessarily houses they own, just really grown up nice places to live with outdoor spaces and empty corners of big beautiful rooms. Enter Davenport Garden Centre. A plant and a bottle of adult grape juice, both with bows. This are my go-to gifts for my lucky buds, and DGC is where I buy half of this bundle. Lovely selection of flowers, priced appropriately for The Big Smoke, and rows and rows of herbs to boot. Just lovely. read more

I went here a few weeks ago with my mother to put together some flower arrangements for the planters on my balcony. I was blown away by the friendly and exceptional customer service that received at Davenport Garden Centre. The owners were patient while I spent over an hour deciding what to take home. They went back and forth in the pouring rain with me as I tried several different arrangements, and continued to offer honest advice, despite my indecisiveness. I ended up with gorgeous flowers and I love my self-watering planters. After spending time in other garden centre's prior to this one, I was so pleasantly delighted at this positive experience. What a warm, enjoyable place to shop for something that should, in fact, be just that, joyful. I will never go anywhere else for my plants or flowers. Garbage people, never helped. Go here and expect to be hated and yelled at. I went here with my sister and I got so disrespected by the owners, this place is run down, messy, unorganized and just plain nasty. 100% would not recommend. NEVER GO HERE. These people do not know how to run a business very rude. Just overall the worst experience I've ever had also everything is way to overpriced. I understand that times are challenging, but the Davenport Garden Centre should not be offering delivery if they can't actually follow through. I don't have a car and no local garden centre, so was delighted to discover that the Davenport Garden Centre would deliver, with understandable delays. Made an order for potting soil and plants. Did not receive their first confirmation, but noticed that I had been billed, so when I reached out, they resent it. Six days later - fair enough they had said that it would take some time - I received a note this morning saying an item was being credited to my credit card due to being out of stock. Immediately thereafter, I received a note that my delivery was "on it's way". Without, of course, the item that that was out of stock, which was the soil - the one item I needed from them. I can't plant the plants without the soil, so I called (no answer) and emailed and texted the delivery notices to tell them that I did not want the delivery without the soil and could I get a different product. No answer. Delivery arrived to my door (contactless so no way to refuse it) and now my plants will sit on my deck dying until I am able to go somewhere by TTC to get soil, which won't be soon with COVID. A call to see if they could replace the product would have been nice, but I guess then they couldn't charge me for the plants. A complete waste of money. read more

The owner of this store is a bona fide crank. They specialize in ripping people off. They do special order arrangements for exterior urns, and when I came in to pick up what I had ordered, the price had gone up from the quotation I had obtained only a few hours earlier, and it had not been done to my specifications, either. Needless to say, I walked out and will never return. Dont waste your money! Sheridan Nurseries can do everything, and witha smile, too. read more
