Today was my first time at Sun High Orchard with my friend and her daughter and we had the best time. Place was beautiful and relaxing and the people were very nice. As we walked around the pumpkins were beautiful and the animals that were there was a plus for the children. Inside the market was amazing with all the apples, pies and donuts. Excellent place for young children (3-8). I brought my class on a field trip and the guide was very friendly. She tailored the program to the age group (kindergarten) and the students got to take a pumpkin and apples from the farm. They loved seeing the animals and walking the farm. A farm market for vegetables this place isn't that great. Barely any selection and you can do better at most supermarkets or Burinnis down the road. As a pie bakery this place is 5 stars - its the best pies in the area no contest. I also recently tried the homemade ice cream which was very good as well. So we hit Sun High at the end of the apple season last week, but they still had plenty of fruit. The farm is a decent size with apples to pick, pumpkins to choose from, hay rides, and farm animals. We brought the kids and they had a good time playing with the pumpkins, getting their pics taken at the cut-outs, seeing farm animals for the first time, and picking their first apples. They had a little store where they sell produce in addition to the apples, some knick knacks, apple cider, pies, and dumplings. When I entered the store, I smelled fresh apple pies that just came out of the oven. Too bad they didn't sell by the slice. Their apple dumplings looked good, especially seeing several people eating them out in the field. One look at them, I stopped in my shoes. There were flies buzzing around them inside the plastic box that housed them. And their pies (apple, cherry, pumpkin, etc.) sat in wood cases that may also see a fly or two. I opted for the apple cide in the refrigerator case. The animals seemed a little depressing. Although it had rained all weekend, it didn't seem like the owners take good care of them or their enclosures. The cages were beat up and under maintained. All in all, this is a good place to pick different apple varieties. We should have better luck next year when we go in the beginning of the season. read more

Wonderful local farm. Apples, peaches, corn, lettuce, zucchini, eggplant, asparagus, Jersey tomatoes, green tomatoes, kale, Swiss chard, sunflowers, zinnias and more are grown in their fields and orchards. All produce in the market is fresh and what isn't from their fields is from other local farms. Like their honey, strawberries, blueberries, cucumbers, pickles, peppers and much more. Apple picking starts in September and I go every year with my family. A fun Fall day! There are some animals on the property you can feed, also. The market also bakes fresh pies, cookies, muffins, turnovers, breads and their famous cider donuts! I love going to this farm!! read more

If you want to pick apples, don't go in October. They charged us to go in, yet we walked the entire farm and every single tree was bare. The floor was covered with rotting apples. It's clear that people walk through the lanes, picking apples, taking a bite and then toss them. I was pretty horrified by the condition of their animals. They seem unhealthy, unhappy, and neglected. A horse was foaming at the mouth, the pig looks like he's in pain, the pens all looked dirty and like they hadn't been cleaned in a very long time. This is not the way you treat animals. They're not here for our entertainment and for you to take a selfie with them. The people that work here are pretty rude, and the cider donuts weren't that great. Won't be going back. read more

I went there today to buy peaches. They had a lot of them outside in baskets of varying sizes. I read all the signs. The signs clearly said 1 quart of peaches was $4. 25, a 4-quart basket of peaches was $15, and 4 quarts of peaches were $12. I opted to get 4 quarts since that was obviously the best bargain. When I brought it inside the girl charged my credit card incorrectly and had to call the manager (owner?) over to correct my charge. She put in 4 times $4.25 instead of the discounted price. He said that he could not honor the 4-quart discounted price. First he tried to say that the 4-quart price was for plums except for the fact that the sign said "peaches" He then went into a long explanation about how I obviously didn't understand how to read the signs and I didn't understand what a quart was. He was very unpleasant and condescending. In addition he quickly removed the sign with a 4-quart price. Obviously he saw that it was a real sign and didn't want anybody else taking advantage of the better price I purchased the peaches anyway since the charge had already gone through. In retrospect I should have just walked away. I also purchased a watermelon. When I cut it open it was all dried out in the middle and most of it is inedible Although the peaches smelled good, when I ate one at home, it was very hard. We've been coming for years. It's a lot of fun, particularly if you have little kids old enough to walk around on their own and see the petting zoo animals (a large sow, goats, rabbits, miniature ponies available for a short ride, ducks, etc.). The orchard, when we visited in September, still has plenty of apples to pick, although last year this time I believe the highly valued Honeycrisp trees were picked "to the bone" (probably by pre-season VIP guests is my guess). Still, lots of other apples to chose from, and no matter the type, all priced at $1.99 per pound, which is not a bad deal. In their own Sun High store, for example, Fuji apples were selling for around $2.50/lb. So as a frequent visitor, here are my pros and cons: The Good: Apple Cider Donuts - Plain, powdered, or cinnamon Plenty of large apples on trees in mid September Indoor/Outdoor Farmer's Market with great local vegetables, freshly baked pies and cakes, and excellent ice cream for sale Nice selection of Jams/Jellies/Preserves etc. Friendly Counter staff The Bad: WHERE TO? A hastily-drawn map of the orchard on a large wipe-erase board is not sufficient to guide folks to the apple variety they seek. Proprietors could print a map on each of the apple bags they provide, perhaps. Or if the trees very slightly from year to year, they could post little maps with "You Are Here" here and there, with an accurate depiction of the orchard and what apples grow where. It would make a big difference. GRUMPY GUY I have not experienced the "Grumpy Manager" but many reviewers say they have, so let me just say, king of the hill or not, be nicer! THE LOO Porta-Potty rest rooms. Come on guys. It's time. Pony up for some clean indoor plumbing. I don't know your finances, but it looks like you're making a killing out there. WELCOME! NOW FIGURE IT OUT Signage - Newcomers just need a sign saying "ORCHARDS THIS WAY" as opposed to relying on tradition. "They'll figure it out" is not a good way to deal with customers. And a terrible way to keep customers from wandering into your food prep areas looking for the orchard entrance. BEE CAREFUL I had something in here before about how the owners should do something about the prevalence of yellowjackets buzzing around the payment line, but honestly, it's a farm - There Will Be Bees. Not much they can do. But about that payment line... SPEED UP THE OUTDOOR PAYMENT LINE You can spend upwards of 30 minutes in direct sunlight carrying 20 pounds of apples or more, waiting to pay. Today there was one, albeit very friendly, guy in the little garden shed with his register and scale doing his best. But people show up with wagons full of individual half peck bags of apples, and time moves slower than the delicious molasses they sell in the main shop*. There has to be a better way. Maybe an Apple Pay scanner plus one of those portable hanging scales like the ones you use to weigh your luggage? That may not be an official enough scale to sell food because of NJ state regulations, but something needs to be done. Another helper or two? A cash only lane? More official scales-on-wheels? Selling by the bag full, not by weight? All of that aside, we do come back every year. We get there early so we're not parking on a grassy sidewalk 3 blocks away, we always come home with amazing apple cider donuts, fresh cider, and a pumpkin or two, and we always have a good time. The kids love it; the negatives above were the grumblings of a dad who has maybe grown out of being able to see the simple joy of a place like this through a little kid's eyes. * Full disclosure - I don't actually know if they sell molasses in their shop, but it was a good fit for my comparison. read more

Sun High Orchard is a favorite for us to have a nice visit, the pies are to die for and the home made zuchini bread and other breads are very good.Fruits are highest quality. Lots of packaged and jarred specialty items as well as decorative items. My daughter had a birthday party there and it was perfect in October! The owners are active in the community, which is another reason to enjoy what they have to offer. It is a gem of Morris County within easy reach of many residential communities that surround it. The owners are very personalble. And oh the peaches, tomatoes and apples are to die for when theirs are available!! read more

This is a great place to get a Christmas tree. They also have firewood and a petting zoo and and homemade jams and sweets and all kinds of breads. The staff is nice and helpful without being pushy. We come back every year. It's worth the extra minutes of driving. read more

Let me start off by saying, Fil the owner was very rude to one of my family member, even the staff at the farm agreed upon seeing the way my family member was treated. They have a fee for EVERY THING. The hayride doesn't drop you off on the field, it just takes you around and you have to walk. The donuts are not fresh. There are BEES EVERYWHERE, the kids kept having to run away from it. Just a bad experience overall. I do not recommend this place at all. read more

We visitied Sun High Orchards in Randolph the weekend of 10/5/13 to pick apples. It was a little more crowded and commercial than I had hoped but not as bad as the place we went last year (and I need to keep track of these places better). But overall pretty nice. Once you get in the orchard, it doesn't feel crowded. No charge to pick but apples were 1.79 lb which seemed a little high from past experience but not too bad. There were pony rides ($7!) and a hayride ($1). Farm animals to feed and look at. There were some shaded tables which was nice because it was so unseasonably warm. Donuts (.90) were ok, not the greatest. Cider and several flavors of ice cream were reasonably priced (1.75 for a small cones). All the employees I encountered were pleasant. read more

We decided to check out Sun High Orchard today. We knew full well that going to any orchard in North Jersey on a sunny Sunday in September was going to mean a madhouse. So we were not surprised to see a line of cars parked in the most insane ways all over the roads surrounding Sun High Orchard. Getting a spot in their insanely small parking lot was not happening. They have parking guys out there trying to facilitate but there is no mitigating that lack of space. Once we finally found some "parking" on a side road a couple of blocks away we trekked over to the store. It's a lovely little area. Lots of pumpkins scattered about for instagram worthy shots! There was a line that stretched out the doors of the store and up the steps. (Turns our that was for something specific) We were really after their apple cider doughnuts. Once we got in we were pleased to see a fresh batch being placed on the display. After waiting in line for 10 minutes we had our doughnuts and headed to the car. It was just too crowded to stay. The doughnuts were a little disappointing. They were not fresh. They had been sitting for a while. They tasted okay. But when you have some really incredible apple cider doughnut competition in the area you have to be on your game! Overall It's a lovely little orchard. Probably more manageable on a week day. We may try that. The lack of parking is a big issue. read more

Extremely rude staff. It never said that dogs were NOT allowed so I went in thinking it was okay. On my way towards apple picking they yelled no dogs extremely loud and rude. Not even a nice I'm sorry there are no dogs allowed. I also went to the manager to ask if it was okay since we drove an hour to get to the place and he was extremely mean about it. Came here over Columbus Day weekend. Parking is very limited for the crowd size, but we were able to park on the street. The orchard is relatively small, and they were out of all but a few varieties of apples by this time of year, but we filled enough and got what we wanted. I even found some Pink Ladies in the back that were not labeled (score!). You pay what you pick ($1.99/lb), we filled 2 half "peck" bags (provided) for $17. Hayrides go around the orchard for $1; you have to buy a ticket first. There are also farm animals to see (not really pet or feed--they had ample warnings about biting risks). There's also a sizable store with donuts, ice cream, flowers, and a variety of vegetables and jams and sauces for sale. I picked up a half dozen donuts ($5) and half gallon of cider ($4.25). Were the donuts the freshest? No. But still tasty. They take credit cards for everything except for the hayride. But cash was fastest. read more

Came here last weekend to pick apples. It's one of the few places in the area that still has apples at this time of year. They were pretty nice and helpful. It's a pretty easy system. You get a bag, walk out to the orchard and pick what you want. You pay for what you get. It's not a huge place, but it was fine for what we needed. We were two adults, looking to get some apples. There were some animals to check out, if that's what you're interested in and some of those wooden cut out things to pose for pictures, like you're the farmer or an ear of corn. I think they had hay rides earlier in the season, but this is November, so I felt lucky to find a place with apples and pumpkins. The hot cider was tasty and the service was pleasant. I'd go again next year for apples. looks like a good sized farm and it looks like they have more than apples at different times of the year. read more

This is a cute and easy farm for apple and pumpkin picking without a ton of hassle. It's a small farm but serves its purpose with lots of apple picking and a handful of varietals to choose from. There's a small pumpkin patch with tinier pumpkins and larger pumpkins and gourds in the middle of the field near the entrance. You'll also find a lot of decorative fall themed pumpkins and gourds in small sizes both inside and outside. There's a small petting zoo with animals like sheep, chickens, horses and one of the biggest pigs I've ever seen. They offer hayrides as well, but only on weekends. There's a nice farmer's market inside with fresh produce, including squash, zucchini, tomatoes, spaghetti squash and the like. cider and doughnuts are also available; expect a line for the delicious treats! Great (and manageable) for kids and fall-themed activities. Parking could be better, but during non-peak hours, it's not so bad. read more

This place is extremely over-crowded busy and small. Plus after driving an hour and half to get here from the city we had at least 5 employees yell at us for bringing our dog. No dogs allowed in the parking lot, on any of the grounds or other-wise EXTREMELY dog-unfriendly. If you guys hate dogs that much, maybe you ought to mention something on your website . So unfriendly we left after 10 mins and drove to another NORMAL orchard/ farm where they allow animals. I've never encountered an orchard in NYS that has a problem with dogs. Used to love this place. I would stop at least two times a week with my little one to walk around and see the animals. Went there today for the first time open this season. It just didn't seem the same. You couldn't go by the horses and the guy working there was very rude about it. All the animals seemed tired and out of it. Hoping next visit is better. I've certainly been to better farms for apple picking. Likely will not be back. I'm well aware it's the end of the season for picking but let me first tell you about the things that went wrong with our experience... We went on 10/8/17 - First, when we pulled in there is very little signage, we followed cars to a lower lot. OK parked. Couldn't find how we should get to the apple orchard. Asked someone for help that gave terrible directions as if we had already been there and knew the layout she said we could get a bag from the attendant as we entered the field. WHAT ATTENDANT??? No one to be found besides 2 staff manning the payment booths. Then there's a white board map as you enter that's barely legible. I took a picture so I could reference it out in the field. I'll share when I update from my cell. Terrible! How long have they been in business I wonder? We took the first right at the first row of apples, I think maybe 2 rows in that aisle are labelled. Almost no apples on these trees. Then we meet a family that's looking to help us with their apple picker, where on earth did they get that? I guess it's first come first serve which is fine but there was no place I saw that they were even kept as you entered the field, later on some people checking out in line with us didn't know where to leave there's. Also $1.99 per lb. of pick your own when it's slim pickings is a bit ridiculous. Also some staff in the field to help with directions or the apples or what each row was or which apples to use for what would've been nice but there was literally NO ONE to be found that worked there. My husband recommended this place as it's likely under 5 miles from home for us and "let crowded" than other farms we've been to but I'd rather be at a farm that's over crowded and marked with friendly staff to help. They said they will call back but never did. The guy on the phone was rude and never wanted my business.
