Such a beautiful beach! Since it's in a bay the waves aren't too big and it's great for swimming. There are lots and lots of palm trees which provide great shade. Coconuts everywhere if you like to crack them open like I do. It wasn't crowded at all, but we were farther down from the entrance (we kept driving down the dirt road after entering the parking lot). one of my favorite beaches on the island, though you can't go wrong with any of them! Also, there are lots of wild horses which is super cool- however, packs of them do wander to most of the other beaches as well

Nice, calm beach without a lot of tourist. The sand was soft & plushy when dried. Watch out for the rock though as you soak in the water.

Beautiful beach! Highly recommended when considering a beach to visit in Vieques. The water is beautiful blue, sand is nice and soft with plenty of palm trees all around, providing some shelter from the sun if needed. They also have camping grounds if you want to stay there overnight as well as public bathrooms. On the way in to the beach, there are just wild horses everywhere. A beautiful sight. Best part is if you get super hungry, if you walk out to the main road from the beach, a delicious empanada and meat, rice and beans stand is right at the entrance where the food is off the charts. Amazing local flavors, authentic like no other. So good. The walk to the food stand from the beach is completely worth it.

This beach is convenient, because it has a restaurant and facilities. There are beautiful horses all over the beach too! I personally liked playa Caracas better.

    Navio all to ourselves!

Navio/Media Luna are the beaches to go to here. We spent about 5 minutes at the main beach before moving on. NAVIO We were here ALONE for about 3 hours. Lots of waves, neat caves off to the side. You will take a road that is a little rough to get here, but it's totally worth it for the seclusion. MEDIA LUNA Calm water beach, crystal clear water and like bath water! We did a little bit of snorkeling here and saw some fish in the grass, but nothing crazy.

I am not sure to understand the two 2-star ratings this gorgeous beach received because in my books - it doesn't get much better than that. We stayed in Esperanza and chose not to rent a car - pedestrians all the way!!! It's totally doable and when you have this little piece of heaven a mere 15-minute walk from the Malecon - you really don't need anything else than your two legs, sunglasses, a swimsuit, a towel and sun lotion (yeah, yeah...I know. But you don't want your white ass to get burned, believe me! I missed a spot on my foot and it looked like a boiled lobster after about 20 minutes. Word to the wise). You can walk on the beach all along, following Playa Esperanza and cutting through. It's beautiful, and totally worth it. You'll find that most of the time (even on busy weekends) you'll have the beach basically to yourself. Such a fantastic feeling of Robinson - without having to build a hut and with the convenience of civilization right around the corner. I loved it. Random facts: - there are a lot of crabs!!! the crustacean type, mind you. They are super cute and shy and really fun to watch. - lay your towel after/East of the rocks; the beach is more leveled and the sand, softer. - don't forget water, drinks, whatever you want to munch on because I didn't see any vendors when I was there. Better be safe than sorry. - there is a HUGE parking lot outside if you choose to drive - wild horses are everywhere, and they might run on the beach. Beautiful. - don't litter. There are bins everywhere: you have NO EXCUSE. - turtles come sometimes to lay their eggs. Be careful, sensitive and cautious. - there is natural shade, provided by coconut trees. But still - lather up (we have an ozone problem, remember?!?!? a little hole? not good for the interaction skin/sun rays) - the water is not very choppy and is perfect for swimming - it's clean - except for the occasional beached algae. Guess what? it's natural. - you can access other beaches from this one if you really want to but after having a look at the others I found that Sun Bay was my thing. Happy tanning!

For most of the trip you are on paved roads, but for Secret Beach (also known as Pata Prieta), we had to stray off the paved path---a good thing. The main dirt road wasn't too bad, but then we had to turn of this road on to a smaller dirt road. This one was a little more potholed, had quite a few big rocks on it, and steep at times. I maneuvered around the rocks like Han Solo on his Millennium Falcon in an astroid field. It was an adventure just getting to Secret Beach. The parking area is at the bottom of a steep stretch of road. The lot is primitive & fairly small. I've been told that you should leave your vehicle unlocked, so that if someone is going to beak into your car, they don't have to break the window----we had a scooter, so that wasn't an issue. From the parking lot, one walks around a signed gate, and takes a short stroll to the beach. Now given its namesake, I was picturing a totally empty beach, but we saw quite a few groups here. But it wasn't super crowded, and we were definitely able to plant ourselves on a nice patch of sand out of earshot of our neighbors. The beach really is nice in that it's a small "C-shaped" cove. The sand of the beach is white and soft. The waves are fairly small and break right on the beach. This place is your mental image of a tropical beach paradise. Swimming is nice here with not many rocks/coral to worry about. I noticed on a neighboring cove west that there were more rocks. This is where most of the snorkelers were. So yeah, I wouldn't say Secret Beach is a total secret, but I'd say it's definitely worth the rough road. A solid 4.5 stars.

We definitely want to protect and preserve the best (literally) bioluminescent bay in the world, right? So yeah, you can only visit through tour groups. The one-hour tours will definitely feel too short (cries), and you're not allowed to get into the water. Our guide told us that swimming was prohibited since (I think) 2008? I forget the exact year she said. Anyway, some tips if you want them: 1. DEFINITELY only choose tours that use clear-bottom kayaks! Trust me, seeing the water light up and streak along the bottom of the boat was like mini galaxies exploding. It reminded me of the Disney Space Mountain ride. You are missing out if you don't do this. 2. Try to go at or around new moon. Although, even if it's full moon, I'm not sure if this matters if the moon doesn't appear until, say, well after midnight anyway? Hmm... 3. The tours are popular, especially around new moon, so book early! 4. wear water shoes. The walk from land to the kayak in water was sandy and rough on the feet. 5. look for fast streaks of light in the water; those are the fish darting around, super cool to see!! 6. our guide did mention that while this place has bioluminescence year-round, the maximum activity is during summer months. Do what you will with that. This was definitely highlight in our Puerto Rico trip!

I kept thinking Blue Beach was my favorite, but upon reflection, I truly think Silver was. The pristine white sands and turquoise Caribbean waters were good for the soul. My favorite part was being able to walk quite far out into the gentle warm waves on soft white sand and still be standing with water neck high. The highlight of the vacation was getting to try so many beaches, from the western side of Green Beach, to the most eastern public beach of Silver Beach. I could have easily stayed there forever , prompting a Silver Alert...you can find me at Silver! Pack a picnic and sunscreen. Thank me later.

It's totally worth the extra few minutes drive though. It's not well marked on the Vieques tourist map - its marked as 'platita'. Like most of the beaches this one has no services at all. And like all the beaches its a quick walk from the car, through the mangroves to the sand. The times we have been there it's never been crowded - like maybe a dozen people over a 1/2 mile long beach. This beach has the whitest sand of any of the beaches you can get to on Vieques. In addition to this, there is a small beach where some locals have stacked up some pretty cool rocks. When you first get there, it looks like this small beach is kinda far and you have to swim. Not the case. The water is hip deep and you can walk wade over to the little beach. The beach its self it flat & shallow, no real waves, the water seems to be a little warmer because of how shallow it is, good for snorkeling, good for kids. A must see if you are going to the beaches in Vieques. Orchid Beach / Playa La Plata GPS: 18.117971, -65.375744
