I'm very disappointed with my recent experience at Sun Auto Repair in Renton. I came in because my trunk would not close. Before bringing my car in, I called and explained that I was confident the issue was the trunk latch. I asked about pricing and whether they had the latch in stock. I was told the first step would be to bring the car in so they could see if that was the problem. Once there, a mechanic tried slamming the trunk shut but it still wouldn't close. I was then told they needed to diagnose the issue for $140.00 to 170.00 At that point, I agreed because it sounded like they thought it might be something other than the trunk latch. Instead, I was charged $269 for a diagnostic, only to be told exactly what I already knew that the trunk latch was the problem. I don't understand why I was charged such a high diagnostic fee when I clearly explained the issue from the start. To make matters worse, I was quoted close to $800 to replace the trunk latch. For reference, the same latch for a 2016 Chevy Malibu LT 2.0 costs under $200 online. Between the excessive diagnostic fee and the inflated repair quote, I chose to walk away after paying the $269. They also claimed my battery was going bad, even though it was replaced just 7 months ago. Then today, I received a voicemail asking if I wanted to schedule work not just for the trunk latch and battery, but now spark plugs and struts issues that were never mentioned before. It honestly feels like they kept adding problems out of nowhere. I've had good experiences with them in the past, which makes this even more disappointing. Referred to by a good friend who knew the place as a former Goodyear. A few years later, the place was sold to Sun and the great quality never changed. From simple oil changes and brakes, to fixing ghr bushing and broken control rods, their diagnostics aim to please. It was a little pricey, but my car had a LOT of deferred maintenance on the mechanical parts, which were usual fixed within a few hours. Be advised that you can not just roll up to the place expecting service. An appointment must be made, and after that, the guys take care of the car. I hope the team in Renton has the opportunity to fix the rest of my car. They did great job amd well worth the penny. read more

I've been bringing my 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback here for the past 3 years. I typically in the past had done all the preventative and scheduled maintenance on my own. I moved and had no tools in my new place, and I typically do not trust most places. I had good service with transmission flushes, radiator flushes, oil changes, and even full brake and rotor service here. Alex, the previous manager, would let me bring my own OEM TOYOTA Oil filter and new aftermarket brakes with just charging me the labor, never had an issue. This last time there was new manager that complained about an OEM TOYOTA FILTER, being that they use lesser quality oem replacement parts it struck me as odd. They also didn't go in and find other random issues that may be non-existent, just to get you to pay more money which is an unethical practice that I know some smaller shops try to pull on occasion. The price was fair and their managers are extremely kind and professional, especially Alex! Even though the location is small, they operate with the efficiency of a giant location. Background info: I'm female, 74, and disabled. I used to do my own automotive repairs and maintenance in a younger, more abled life. My 2006 Scion xB has been cared for by the dealership since I bought it new. Two years ago, that changed when the dealership started telling me I needed a new battery when the battery was less than 5 years old. I noticed changes after the dealership was bought out, but the upselling has become really bad. A few weeks ago my brakes started squealing. When I got a SunAuto flyer in the mail I checked reviews on here and thought, "why not give them a try." So I scheduled an appointment, told them there was a squeak and may need fluid or some work on the brakes. Two hours after taking it in, they told me the (drum) rear brakes were so locked up they couldn't get to them. They offered to replace them, and my battery, for $1,500. Jaw dropped. I asked what the price would be to simply replace the brakes: $1,000. If you know anything about brakes, it's obvious this is all hogwash. So, I called the Les Schwab across the street instead, gave them the diagnosis and asked for a brake job quote: $496. I made an appointment with Les Schwab and took the car in. They examined the brakes and found they were misaligned in such a way that the rear brakes looked like new because they were barely touching the tires. When the car was suspended and brakes were applied, the tires were able to spin without contact to the brakes. Heavens knows how long I've been driving with just front brakes!!!!! The full cost of the alignment? $41.90. No squeak, lovely braking. I love Les Schwab for this, and many other reasons. Their integrity is impeccable no matter where I go. read more

This morning I called and was told that I could come right over and have my tires inspected - yesterday a warning light had suddenly started blinking. A very courteous and knowledgeable young man checked each tire, adding air as needed. He spent at least 10 minutes with me answering questions, but I was not charged a dime. OK right now if the temperature is above 90F no air conditioning. Saturday Morning I went to bellevue going there air conditioner was working. ON the way back it failed for 5 minutes then started working again. Temperature was around 80 to 83 by Car thermometer. It seemed to be failing infrequently. Something sticking then it breaks free and starts working. But have had no success using air conditioner above 90 degrees. I think the failure point is in the 80's Somewhere. I picked up a nail with a bracket attached to it in my rear tire. Somewhere on 405 outside of Renton. This Point S is in a different city than the one I would normally go to. I walked right in and the woman at the front desk was extremely friendly. And helped me right away. The tech was able to get to my truck right away. Unfortunately the tire could not be patched. Due to the nail being too close to the sidewall of the tire. They did not have the particular tire size my truck required. I understood, and will have to get new tires at an different Point S location. Luckily my spare tire was a full size spare. They swapped the tires. And I was able to go on my my way to work. If you read about my experience below you know that I would never have returned. But my friend encouraged me to call them and see if they could find anything wrong about the rattling noise I heard. I called and spoke to their store manager Travis who actually had intended to contact me as well regarding my negative experience. Travis helped me out and had the mechanics double check my car and reassured me that safety-wise everything was okay. He said in light of the battery issues I experienced, they have a new policy for triple checking their battery tests if a battery fails and that he was in the process of warrantying out the test equipment because it seemed to be faulty. I appreciated that Good Neighbor is changing their policy to not give false results to their clients but part of me is surprised that it took this long to have such a policy given how long this place has been in business. Up until now, who knows how many false results have been given. I was also able to ask the mechanic to replace the windshield wiper fluid that was empty and not initially refilled. A week later, when I tried to go change my engine air filter (as recommended) one of the 2 nuts was loose while one was fully tightened. This is not a safety issue but if you take apart both nuts to take out my air filter for a photo at least put it back together properly. Travis cares about the customer and I would be willing to work with him again. My overall impression now is that this place is not as bad as I initially felt about it but it still wouldn't necessarily be the first place I go to get work done. read more

I called Sun Auto out of the blue to see about an oil change for my car. A pleasant surprise as they told me to bring my car in and they could squeeze it in. It was already one or two in the afternoon so I felt I lucked out. I asked them not to do an analysis, just oil change. But the analysis is standard procedure with an oil change. They informed me about some problems and i decided let's just take care of these problems! Next day dropped my car off and picked it up at five pm. It's two months later and I can say the car is running great. Pretty happy with the service and cost for the repairs. I do recommend them. read more

I was looking for my tires to be replaced, as well as the lug nut stud the previous mechanic stripped off. They went to the warehouse same day to pick up my new tires, balanced them, fixed the stud and did the alignment. I now feel a lot more safe when driving down the road. They are honest, reliable and great value. I called them and spoke with Russ looking to get second opinion after having an estimate I wasn't entirely comfortable with at a local shop in North Seattle. He looked it over and told me to bring my car in for a courtesy inspection. I did just that. He told it to me straight and never tried to sell me something I didn't need. All in all, I saved over $600 and I feel confident with the recommended service repairs. If you live in Renton, you don't know how lucky you are to have an authentic auto repair shop right downtown. During my last 6 months living in Renton I found this place, then I moved to Federal Way. Now that I have moved - I still go back to this place for my oil changes and other services. I drive all this way for two reasons: They provide great service and I don't feel swindled when I leave their place. Service: Also - twice now they have been able to fit me into their workflow when I needed it the most. I don't know if I was luck or it's just the way they work. Don't get me wrong I don't take advantage of it but they have told me no in the past as well. Trust: At the end of my visit I get a link to a report for all the areas they checked. Not only written information but pictures of what they found and explanation why they recommend it. They explain it in layman's terms. I like their process. Follow up is like something I have never seen before. I got my oil changed and they do an inspection on other components of the vehicle. But the inspection comes with pictures of the components in your vehicle they are inspecting in addition to a video on what exactly the part does for the vehicle. I am not a car person. I enjoy cars. I love my car, but I've never sunk my teeth into the fine details of how they work. When it comes to my car I only know when something doesn't feel right but I can only describe this in inarticulate terms. This has posed a problem in my life before as I have had some terrible experiences with mechanics in the past. I used to blindly trust mechanics until my engine block cracked since the mechanic was dismissive of my concerns. I spent ten years after that never quite trusting mechanics. Until now. Good Neighbor Tire and Auto Service will take care of you and your car. Travis explains problems in terms that I can understand without ever sounding condescending or irritated. He takes the time to explain and he never pressures a service. If the part is worn he'll give a heads up that it will need to be replaced and how much it will be. That is crucial to me because if he says something critically needs to be replaced I know it really needs to be replaced. Last I was in they showed me what the problem was. Each mechanic was super polite and professional. Above all they admit if they made a mistake and they will fix it. There's no excuses or coverups. They own everything they do, so I know when I drive away my car will be in better condition then when I brought it in. read more

When we moved, we needed a new auto place to take our cars. This place had decent reviews, so we thought we'd give it a shot. We got a set of brakes done on one of our cars, seemed a little expensive, but whatever. The next car we took in, the tech was very insistent that the brakes needed done. Said it was a clear safety issue. The quote again seemed expensive, so I checked with another mechanic. This mechanic not only told me the quote was twice what it should be, but that I had at least another year left on my current brakes. Needless to say, never going back here. Edited to add: they messed up the adjustment on the brakes they did do, and now we have to get a whole new set of brakes barely a year later. Edited again to add: it has now been two years since they told me I needed new rear breaks emergently. And they are still fine. read more
